Eiza González is mourning the loss of Nicandro Díaz, a TelevisaUnivision producer who gave the 3 Body Problem star an opportunity early on in her acting career.
“I am devastated with the news about Nicandro,” González posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “You are light, I always spent hours laughing with you. My family and I love you very much and we are eternally grateful.”
She continued, “You changed the course of my life and I will always be indebted to you. My deepest condolences to your beautiful family. I adore you Nicandro, we will always miss you. Your favorite lobuki.”

With all the violence a character like Deadpool causes and all the fourth wall-breaking quips he makes, it’s easy to forget just how much of a focus his relationship with his love interest Vanessa had in the first movie. Audiences enjoyed seeing the sweeter side of the merciless mercenary and 20th Century Fox was so confident in their romantic chemistry that they famously created a touching romantic poster with the tagline “True Love Never Dies” to promote the film’s Valentine’s Day release.
That’s probably why it came as such a shock that the sequel had Vanessa killed in her own kitchen so quickly that she may as well have landed in her refrigerator. This decision proved controversial at the time, and even after the beloved female lead was brought back at the end via temporal shenanigans, many fans were still disappointed about the lack of Vanessa’s presence in Deadpool 2.

In 2004, Bonnie Raitt teamed up with Toots Hibbert for a joyous cover of his reggae classic “True Love is Hard to Find.” It was a huge moment for Raitt, who had been a major fan of Toots & the Maytals since she heard him on the soundtrack to The Harder They Come in the early 1970s; she also covered “True Love” on her own album Nine Lives in 1986. That cover led her and Hibbert to become friends. Their 2004 collaboration was the first of several, including a new version of Hibbert’s 1976 song “Premature,...

Leone Film Group’s Lotus Production shingle is setting up Lotus Factory, a new unit for high-profile genre projects out of Italy made for the international market.
These currently include a live action TV series in development on the origins of Santa Clause, for which Lotus chief Marco Belardi has recruited top U.S. talent: Oscar-nominated writer Jim Capobianco (“Ratatouille”) and Robert Lence.
“We are planning to make films of different genres from those that are usually produced in Italy,” Belardi told Variety, noting that Italy’s scripted content output is largely made up of “dramas, comedies and an occasional noir.”
For example, Italian film and TV content targeting family audiences is quite scarce, a gap Belardi is looking to fill with Lotus Factory.
Belardi has recruited young Italian director Nicola Abbatangelo, who recently completed “The Land of Dreams,” an English-language movie musical set in 1920s New York, to serve...

When Joshua Ray Walker was a kid in Dallas, Texas, his mom took a job doing marketing at motorsports events. Every weekend, he’d tag along with her to monster truck competitions, motorcycle rallies, car and boat shows — anything that had a loud engine really. “Basically any redneck sport you can think of,” he says.
Walker liked being around the cars and trucks, but he was most fascinated by the rough-around-the-edges women who were recruited — often by his mother — to promote a certain product. Which is to say they were paid to wear a bikini,...

Joshua Ray Walker taps into his inner Dwight Yoakam on the ferocious new song “True Love,” a double barrel blast of yearning vocals and classic country playing. The track arrives with the announcement of Walker’s new album Glad You Made It, due July 10th.
Musically, “True Love” can’t contain its joy, with vibrant shredding steel and a driving backbeat, but the lyrics, like much of Walker’s songwriting, are bittersweet. “Let’s just call a spade a spade: true love was meant to fade,” he sings in the chorus.

Harry Connick Jr. has already heard enough people ask him, “Cole Porter, who’s that?” He even says a younger person mistook Porter for Nat King Cole (No, Porter did not write “The Christmas Song”). Fortunately, this won’t stop younger audiences from enjoying Harry Connick Jr: A Celebration of Cole Porter at the Nederlander Theatre on Broadway.
Connick’s residency runs from through December 29th, with a 25-piece orchestra and rolling stage sets. This is the jazz musician’s third concert on Broadway, and perhaps the most extravagant, showcasing all of his talents: singing,...

Returning to Broadway, Harry Connick Jr. chooses his muse wisely and well, taking the stage in an attractively modern, multi-media setting to celebrate that most sophisticated of the American songbook’s founders, Cole Porter.
At its frequent best, Harry Connick Jr.: A Celebration of Cole Porter, opening tonight at the Nederlander Theatre, pairs Porter’s songwriting genius with Connick’s superb musicianship, supple, ear-pleasing vocals and a brash confidence that pushes the music from the comfort of classic pop into bolder, jazzier terrain. Connick, with his years on American Idol, movie screens and concert stages, is certainly the most popular interpreter of American standards, and he takes fine advantage of that good will, unafraid to slip in an occasional dissonance or to slow down a vocal like a train creeping to its halt. Where Connick leads, his audience knows to follow.

Few actors have engendered the level of curiosity and confusion surrounding Shia Labeouf, yet it’s seen little impact on his movie career. Labeouf’s arrests for public intoxication and his mixed bag of performance art may have hindered his public profile, but they never downgraded the quality of a risky and substantial filmography. Now, the dueling facets of Labeouf’s career and public life have collided in a most intriguing fashion.
With “Honey Boy,” Labeouf has scripted a rambling, understated autobiographical summation of his troubled youth, pinning much of his rough entryway into young adulthood on his abusive father — an exuberant role that the actor himself embodies with plenty of unsettling machismo, but it’s one of only a few meta flourishes in an otherwise straightforward addiction drama. Directed by expressionistic documentarian Alma Ha’rel in her narrative debut, “Honey Boy” benefits from the filmmaker’s keen eye, even...
