Revolving around two things many of us know all too well, neighbours from hell and writer’s block, Destroy All Neighbors is an over-the-top exercise in splatstick from director Josh Forbes and writers Mike Benner, Jared Logan and Charles A. Pieper.
William Brown makes his living as a sound engineer at Industrial Sound & Magic, helping to bring other people’s music to life. Currently, it’s the obnoxious Caleb Bang Jansen, “Emerson, Lake and Palmer? It sounds like Emerson getting buttfucked by Lake and Palmer.”
But when it comes to his own Prog Rock album, he’s stuck in a rut. While his girlfriend Emily believes in him, everyone else around him seems to exist only to stifle his efforts.

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that was just released last year, writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here and is available to watch on the Shudder streaming service. Last week, Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger secured an eight figure deal to make his next genre project – something called Weapons – for New Line Cinema. Weapons will be produced by BoulderLight Pictures, the same company that was behind Barbarian… and soon after news of the Cregger deal came to the surface, it has also been announced that BoulderLight Pictures has signed on a first look deal with New Line Cinema. As part of this deal, BoulderLight will develop high-concept, filmmaker-driven genre stories for New Line.
The Hollywood Reporter offers some background on BoulderLight. The company was founded by J.D. Lifshitz, 30, and Raphael Margules, 31. The two men, who are observant Orthodox Jews who met at Hebrew school (they don’t work on The Sabbath), bonded over their love of horror (Lifshitz was an avid reader of Fangoria and saw Scream 3 in theaters at the age of 7). In the wake of last week’s news that New Line Cinema has picked up Barbarian director Zach Cregger’s next movie Weapons, THR reports today that New Line is also getting cozy with BoulderLight Pictures, the production company behind horror hit Barbarian.
BoulderLight Pictures has signed a first-look deal with New Line Cinema, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The site’s report continues, “Under the first-look, the plan is for BoulderLight to work on high-concept, filmmaker-driven genre stories for New Line.”
J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules are behind BoulderLight Pictures, the company responsible for genre films including Contracted, Dementia, Rent-a-Pal, and last year’s Barbarian.

BoulderLight Pictures, the prolific but under-the-radar genre production banner behind last year’s surprise hit Barbarian, has signed a first-look deal with New Line Cinema.
The pact occurs on the heels of a milestone deal with New Line and Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger for a new feature project — titled Weapons, and fast-tracked to begin shooting in July — that reunites that movie’s team, including BoulderLight.

I thought I would give myself a break from the dozens of Christmas movies this month and watch a movie I literally knew nothing about except its title. I was pretty sure it wasn’t a Christmas movie and that it was probably a low-budget genre title but this was just guess work.
I would be right though and what I got with The Darkness of the Road was a low budget sci-fi thriller horror blend that is hard to pigeon hole. We initially see a young woman, Siri, and her young daughter on the road seemingly get away from someone or something to get a fresh start somewhere else. Los Angeles-based Dark Star Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights to the festival midnighter Dementia Part II as part of their exciting collaboration with horror leader Bloody Disgusting, the companies announced Monday morning.

February is known as Women in Horror Month, when the spotlight is put on female filmmakers working inside our favorite genre, and many horror sites run pieces about movies directed by women. And that’s great! But there’s no reason why that spotlight should be limited to only one month, particularly when there are so many brilliant and talented female filmmakers working in the genre. Why not use this October to hit up these titles on Shudder and get to know some of the most exciting female voices in horror right now?

Check out this cool poster for Seed 2 director Marcel Walz’s forthcoming remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Blood Feast, which stars genre veterans Robert Rusler (Nightmare on Elm St. 2), Caroline Williams (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Sadie Katz (Wrong Turn 6), and Sophie Monk (The Hills Run Red).
Blood Feast will make its Us debut on June 23rd.
Fuad Ramses (Robert Rusler – A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge, Vamp, Tales of Halloween) and his family have moved from the United States to France, where they run an American diner. Since business is not going too well, Fuad also works night shifts in a museum of ancient Egyptian culture. During these long, lonely nights he is repeatedly drawn to a statue representing the seductive ancient goddess Ishtar. He becomes more and more allured by the goddess as she speaks to him in visions. Eventually he succumbs to her deadly charms.

Writer/director Eric England has made a name for himself in the horror genre by bending familiar genres into new and unique shapes, whether it's his debut feature Madison County, a take on the slasher movie mixed with ’70s survival horror, or 2013's Contracted, his version of a body horror film and more (although to say exactly what would spoil one of that movie's best surprises). England's fourth feature, Get the Girl, continues this tradition of genre-bending by mashing up a dark comedy, heist movie, crime thriller, and romance into one slick, sharp package.
Daily Dead recently spoke with England (listen below) about the process of writing and directing Get the Girl and how it differs from his previous work. As always, England is candid and funny in talking about his movie—arguably his most accomplished effort to date.
Get the Girl is available on VOD and iTunes now. Genre fans should totally watch it.

You've got to watch this trailer for a fun looking throwback horror thriller called Beyond the Gates. I wasn't really sure what to make of this film when I first started watching the trailer, and then it got to a point where the main characters start playing a VHS-type board game in which they have to play to save their missing father's soul. That's the concept that grabbed my attention, and I love the whole VHS throwback vibe of it. It looks like it will be an entertaining flick! You can read Ben's review of it here. This is the synopsis:
The movie stars Graham Skipper (Almost Human) and Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End) as "two estranged brothers who reunite to sift through the contents of their missing dad’s VHS rental store. Among the inventory, they discover an interactive Vcr board game, which their father viewed just before he vanished.

One of the biggest surprises of 2013 for me was Contracted – Eric England’s tight little body-horror flick about a “Patient Zero” who hopes to destroy mankind by spreading a deadly Std. Weaker stomachs might have to watch most of the action through interwoven fingers, but as a contagion thriller, England’s style ensures that societal horrors come first and foremost.
Fast-forward two years, and we’re here to discuss Contracted: Phase II, a sequel that doesn’t see any involvement from England himself. First-time screenwriter Craig Walendziak and music video director Josh Forbes (you know, the guy who totally had an awful time at the MTV VMAs) take over as the creative team behind IFC Midnight’s hopeful successor, which provides the opportunity for a refreshing new take on England’s origin. Daily Dead recently chatted with Forbes about his involvement in Contracted: Phase II and discussed the pressures of directing a sequel, collaborating with the film’s stars and much more.
I'm curious, just because I noticed this was your first feature, how did you end up getting involved with Contracted: Phase II? Was this something that was brought to you?...
