Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Mike Castle (Family Trap), Lauren Lapkus (Orange Is the New Black), Ryan Pinkston (Tower Prep), Matt Cook (True Blood) and George Wendt (Cheers) star in the ensemble comedy set in Charlestown, Mass. ABC's adaptation of the Britcom "Pulling" has tapped Mandy Moore as one of its stars.
Moore will play one of three women in their 30s who are trying to figure out their lives in the pilot, Deadline reports. Her character, Louise, is described as optimistic and eager to be married. "Pulling" is based on the 2006 BBC series co-created by Sharon Horgan (who's executive producing the adaptation).
Moore starred in another ABC pilot, "Family Trap," last year, but it wasn't picked up. She currently does voice work on "Tron: Uprising."
More pilot casting news:
- "Deception" star Tate Donovan has taken a role in CBS' drama pilot "Hostages," which also stars Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott. He'll play Collette's husband, who along with their kids is taken hostage by a group that wants to manipulate Collette's character, a surgeon who's about to operate on the president.
"Hostages" is in second position to "Deception" for Donovan,...

For the past few years at the upfronts, ABC has had both one of the more stable schedules among the broadcast networks while simultaneously picking up scads of new shows each season. Which means that while the network's anchors -- "Dancing With the Stars," "Grey's Anatomy," the Wednesday comedy block -- are doing well, its record of developing new hits has been underwhelming of late.
The network did score one of the only bona fide drama hits this season with "Once Upon a Time," which we see anchoring a new Sunday schedule now that "Desperate Housewives" is ending. But filling in the rest of our proposed ABC schedule was a tougher job than it was for NBC and Fox. It's not that there are a lot of holes, but what holes there are don't have many obvious patches.
Also? Almost all of the dramas ABC seems likely to order --...
