This twelve-minute featurette can be found on the bonus disc to NEIL YOUNG: HEART OF GOLD. What we basically have here are interviews with director Jonathan Demme and Neil Young as they talk about the collaboration that went into getting the film shot and released. Demme talks about what Young's music has always meant to him so he then tells how this project got off the ground. Young talks about why he agreed to do the movie, which was basically because he knew Demme could be trusted and that the director knew how to use music. From here the film really takes a look at all the technical stuff that had to be right to pull off what they wanted and this includes setting up the cameras to where everything could be captured without giving the effect that you're watching something that has been filmed. Young talks about hating to see cameras while he's performing and then tells what they did to get over this. Fans of the film are certainly going to enjoy this as it really does give you a great idea as to what had to happen to pull the film off. If you've seen the film then you know what a masterpiece it turned out to be so hearing from those involved was interesting because it's clear they were setting out to do something other than just your typical concert movie. It's also very interesting hearing from Young who talks about what he had to do with his performance and especially since he was playing music for the first time.
