We collectively experienced a punch to the gut when we learned that Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett would be leaving Chicago Fire. It was not the news we wanted to hear as we waited on a season 14 renewal, and based on the statements both actors made in the aftermath of this announcement, it isn't the news they wanted to hear either.

Look, we've heard and read several exit statements over the years. We've seen dozens of One Chicago stars pack up and leave, whether it be Jesse Spencer and Kara Killmer on Chicago Fire or Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos on Chicago Pd. The thing that makes their statements a bit different from Kyri and Lockett's, however, is the acknowledgment that it was their decision.

Fans tuning in for the One Chicago franchise on NBC tonight may be sorely disappointed that Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are not airing new episodes this evening.

Well, there’s a bit of a schedule shakeup happening this week.

All three Chicago shows will return to their regularly scheduled new episodes next week on Wednesday (May 7) in their usual timeslots. Since the Chicago shows are some of NBC’s most popular, fans are anxious to see them back on their screens!

If you have not seen, so far, NBC has renewed 5 TV shows this year, but 4 were canceled in the last few months.

Chicago Fire has confirmed that Sam Carver will not be returning for season 14, and the actor who plays him, Jake Lockett, broke his silence with an emotionally charged Instagram post that made it clear he loves the character as much as we do. The part that caught us off guard, though, was when Lockett revealed that he's as unsure of his character's final story arc as we are.

The actor posted a video montage of himself alongside the rest of the Chicago Fire cast. It was all smiles and dances, but the caption made it clear the seemingly sudden exit has been bittersweet. We may still have a month left before the 2024-25 season concludes, but the Nielsen ratings are already being tallied up. The top show titles are not expected to change that much in the last few weeks of the season, and per usual, One Chicago has delivered the goods for NBC.

The network only claimed two of the top 10 spots when it came to the most-watched broadcasts during the 2024-25 season. And impressively, both of these spots were claimed by One Chicago. Chicago Fire came it at number eight, and Chicago Med pulling off an impressive year and leaping over its Pd counterpart, brought up the rear at number ten.

CBS is claiming an early victory on the 2024-25 television season as it races toward the finish line as the most-watched broadcast network for the 17th consecutive season.

Per Nielsen “Most Current” data, CBS has been averaging 4.99M viewers in primetime this season after seven days of viewing, excluding sports, which puts it at a 14% increase year-over-year. Season-to-date, CBS boasts the top seven shows on broadcast, including Tracker at No. 1, averaging 10.84M viewers per episode.

The network’s new offerings are also performing quite well. Matlock is poised to become the second most-watched broadcast series of the TV season with 9.53M viewers per episode. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is also on the rankings at No. 5, averaging 7.98M viewers per episode.

Speaking of new shows, Watson and NCIS: Origins are also off to strong starts. They are among the Top 5 most-watched new shows of the 2024-25 broadcast season. Only ABC...

We know who's leaving Chicago Fire in the upcoming season. Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) have been shown the door, even though there are a few episodes left in the current season. We're not here to talk about them, though. We're here to discuss the characters who are essential to the show's make up.

Ritter and Carver are going to be major losses, but the show will survive without them. The four characters we've selected below are exceptions to this rule. It would be hard to imagine Chicago Fire without them, and as such, we're confident they will stick around for season 14. At least we hope. My goodness, can you imagine?

CBS will make a little bit of TV history when the 2024-25 season wraps.

The network is set to finish its 17th straight season as the No. 1 broadcaster among all viewers in primetime, a streak that dates back to the 2008-09 season. The 17 consecutive season wins tops the previous mark, also held by CBS, of 16 straight from 1955-70 (when household ratings were the primary measure).

Although there are few weeks left before the official end of the September-to-May TV season, as measured by Nielsen, CBS’ lead over its rivals is large enough that the rankings are very unlikely to change. So as it did a year ago and several other times in the recent past, the network is planting its victory flag now.

There’s good news across the board, however: Among the big four broadcasters, three have improved their primetime averages from this time last season, and the fourth,...

CBS is on track for a record-breaking 17th consecutive season of being the most-watched broadcast network.

When excluding sports, it’s averaging 4.99 million viewers in primetime, per Nielsen data, up 14% year over year. The milestone marks broadcast television’s longest winning streak on record since 1955-1970, which was also previously held by CBS.

CBS currently has the top seven shows on broadcast, which include “Tracker” with an average of 10.84 million viewers; “Matlock” with 9.53 million; “60 Minutes” with 8.45 million; “FBI” with 8.11 million, “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” with 7.98 million; “Blue Bloods” with 7.9 million and “NCIS” with 7.86 million.

It also touts eight of the 10 top shows, which include the above seven and “Elsbeth”; four of the top five new shows; and the top two comedies (“Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” and “Ghosts”).

When looking at the top 20 shows, CBS claimed 13 spots on the list.

As previously reported by Monsters and Critics, two series regulars won’t return for Chicago Fire Season 14.

Daniel Kyri is the other cast member who is leaving the show.

Kyri played Firefighter Darren Ritter for years, bridging the gap between the old cast and the new-look one.

Losing Carver and Ritter will be difficult for Chicago Fire fans. At least the writers had time to prepare the final storylines for these characters.

Jake Lockett posted a fun video on Instagram where he broke his social media silence.

We haven’t heard from him following the news of the show losing two series regulars.

This was a cost-cutting move by the production company, so it likely caught the stars off guard.

As Deadline recently exclusively reported, Jake Lockett, who portrays firefighter Sam Carver on NBC’s Chicago Fire, will not be returning for a potential 14th season. He’s sharing his thoughts for the first time on his pending exit in a post Monday on Instagram.

“While I don’t exactly know what the future looks like, I do know that it won’t be exactly what it was and I am going to miss the hell out of that. So much pride in this journey,” he wrote alongside a video montage of some of his most favorites moments from the show.

“It’s been an honor bringing Sam to life and to every one of you, thank you for the love and support over the past three years,” he continued.

Lockett has portrayed Sam Carver since Season 11, first in a recurring role before getting bumped up to series regular for the current 13th season.

We don't want to say goodbye to any Chicago Fire stars. Our attachment to each of the characters who work at Firehouse 51 is what makes the show so appealing. Unfortunately, we will be forced to part ways with both Darren Ritter, played by Daniel Kyri, and Sam Carver, played by Jake Lockett in season 13.

Kyri issued a statement to fans regarding his upcoming exit, but Lockett remained quiet. The actor did not comment on his future, or lack thereof, with Chicago Fire, until the afternoon of Monday, April 28. He posted a lengthy message on Instagram, detailing just how much the cast and crew and fans have meant to him over the last few years.

Jake Lockett is opening up about his Chicago Fire exit for the first time since news broke that the actor will not be returning for a potential 14th season.

Following an eventful third season for Gabriela Perez (Stephanie Arcila) and Vince Leone (Billy Burke), it was revealed that the characters won't return in the upcoming season, marking the first major exits in the hit series. Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) is on the cusp of making a huge life decision on Med, and if she pursue the path that she's currently considering, it would upend a franchise trend that's lasted for years.

Asher approached her sister, Lizzie (Erin Anderson) and offered to serve as the surrogate for her child, since the latter has struggled to conceive. Lizzie was touched by the offer, but voiced concern about Asher putting her own desires to have a child on hold to help. Look, we love crossover episodes. It's a blast to see characters we wouldn't usually see in the same building interact, and work together to solve a case. But sometimes these crossovers spell out bad news for the fates of other characters. We suspect something like this might be going on with the upcoming Chicago Fire and Chicago Med crossover.

Jocelyn Hudon, the actress who plays Lizzie Novak, confirmed that her character will be appearing in the season 10 finale of Chicago Med. She didn't explain why, or what she will be doing in the finale, but her mere involvement, as a medic, has us worried about the fate of some of her Firehouse 51 peers. We know that Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) are going to be written out of Chicago Fire before the start of next season, and we could be looking at a situation that results in one of their deaths.

One Chicago has always thrived on its interconnectedness. Part of the fun of watching three separate shows set in the Windy City is seeing how each of them interact, and how characters from different walks of life and professions help each other in the name of justice. We saw a prime example of this during the three part One Chicago crossover in January.

Don't worry, though, because One Chicago is not done intermingling characters. Despite there only being three more episodes of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago Pd, the franchise has made it clear that they plan to execute at least two more crossovers. It meant that Violet didn’t get to see Sam Carver when he returned from rehab.

Carver and Violet hugged as they arrived for their shifts this week.

Kelly Severide visited Jack Damon at the hospital. It was revealed that Damon should be healthy within a few weeks, save for potential lung issues.

Damon was worried that the fire from the previous episode had permanently damaged his lungs. He was told later to expect a full recovery.

The best news for Peacock during the first quarter was that it gained 5 million new subscribers. That’s a considerable bump for the streamer, especially considering that in the previous two quarters it stayed flat at 36 million customers.

We are on one last hiatus for Chicago Med Season 10, Chicago Fire Season 13, and Chicago P.D. Season 12.

The next One Chicago Wednesday (April 30) will be repeat episodes for the hit shows.

NBC will air episodes from this past fall on April 30, building a break into the upcoming schedule.

This is disheartening news for many One Chicago fans who have experienced many breaks this year.

The good news is that this is the last break in the schedule.

When the shows return in May, new episodes will take us through the season finales.

When do the One Chicago shows return with new episodes?

New Med, Fire, and P.D. episodes arrive on Wednesday, May 7.

Here’s some more good news.

NBC also has new One Chicago episodes for May 14 and May 21.

"Permanent Damage" was a great episode of Chicago Fire in a vacuum. Yes, it would have been nice to see Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), especially since one of the storylines directly referenced her, but everything else was wonderful, from the core conflict to the side developments between the 51 team.

Here's the thing, though: context made "Permanent Damage" tough to sit through. We know that Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) will be leaving the show before the start of season 14, and yet, the show is behaving as though they will be around for years to come. It was an odd choice, and one that led to an emotional disconnect throughout the episode.

We’re coming at you hot with a scene-by-scene recap of the latest Chicago Pd episode, and it’s a Kiana-centric.

But let’s get into the recap!

Kiana is trying to stay awake while in the car, but her phone keeps vibrating. She gets a text message from someone, presumably her mother. Torres shows up and is a bit late and apologizes, thinking that he’s an inconvenience because she has to pick him up to head into work.

He must not be driving because of his arm and insomnia still.

Torres comments about her mother always calling, and she ignores it. They hear a call about a robbery in progress, and Torres tells her to take the call and that he’ll have her back.

At the risk of redundancy, Chicago Pd has struck gold with Kiana Cook this season.

It’s been a long while since this series has successfully fleshed out a character so well without necessarily distracting the rest of the show or characters or disrupting everything.

While Kiana had some hiccups during Chicago Pd Season 12 Episode 19, it also served as a strong, insightful peek into the character while simultaneously solving an interesting case.

While I’ll happily get into the Kiana of it all, since it was one hell of an episode for her, I have to give some proper due to Promised Land‘s Natalia del Riego, who played Ruby.

She was electric onscreen, and I appreciate a guest star who milks their screentime for all it’s worth.

Chicago Fire may have been missing Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) in its April 23 episode, but rest assured that she and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) will be back together for the May 7 episode "Cut Me Open." The characters will get one step closer to adopting a child, but as evidenced by the promo, it will not be an easy or stress-free process.

The promo sees both Kidd and Severide going to the hospital when the woman carrying the baby they plan to adopt goes into labor. They are all smiles as they head to Gaffney Medical Center, and like many fans predicted, we get a mini-Chicago Med crossover. Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram), who has become one of Med's most important characters, is on hand to help with the birth.

We’ve had quite a run of excitement on the show recently, so I suppose we can give Chicago Fire Season 13 Episode 19 a pass for offering a lot less.

It was well past the middle of the hour before the team even got a decent call, and even that one didn’t come with anything more than a brief medical emergency.

Overall, “Permanent Damage” was so slow that the never-ending mindless commercials made more of an impact than anything else.

Honestly, I wonder if there was even 35 minutes’ worth of content. Every time a story got beyond a short conversation, there was another set of commercials.

Between the endless breaks during the season and the incessant short breaks during the episodes, we can probably tear through a whole season on Peacock in record time.

Chicago Med fanatics have debated forever whether this series is a soap opera or a medical drama.

Sure, there were some medical issues, but Frost’s backstory, Sharon’s issues with Dennis and his daughter, and Hannah’s desire to become a surrogate for her estranged sister suggested that this drama falls squarely on the soap opera side.

With May nearly upon us, the 2024-25 broadcast season is winding down, and finale season has arrived with many of our favorite shows nearing their end. This includes NBC’s One Chicago dramas, with only a few episodes before Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago Pd conclude their seasons and head into summer hiatus.

Ahead of the three shows’ final episodes of the season, it appears we’ve got one more break coming our way, but luckily, this won’t be a long break!

As confirmed by NBC’s official schedule, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago Pd will not be airing a new episode on Wednesday, April 30, with the One Chicago shows going into rerun mode for the final Wednesday of April. The shows will then return following their one-week break with fresh episodes planned for Wednesday, May 7

Chicago Fire picked up right where it left off with "Post Mortem." The dramatic episode concluded with Jack Damon (Michael Bradway) suffering serious lung damage on the job, and being told that he may never be able to fight fires again. The episode "Permanent Damage" explores the paranoia and fear that Damon has about his condition.

Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) paid his half-brother a visit, and urged him to be optimistic when it comes to his recovery. Damon's future depends on whether he can pass certain tests, and the 51 vereran told him that he's seen several firefighters recover without any difficulty. Severide is riding solo this episode, as Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is attending a training course in Maryland.

Kidd may be absent, but her departure proves to have ripple effects throughout the rest of the episode. Severide noticed a girl named Natalie walking around the firehouse, and recalls...

Chicago Fire has made a habit of cutting certain characters from certain episodes in season 13. It's something that was introduced in years prior, but season 13 has really upped the frequency rate at which long-standing characters are excluded from the show for a week at a time.

Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is the latest example. The character is nowhere to be found in the episode "Permanent Damage," which airs Wednesday, April 23. Now, her absence may be a little bit more concerning than usual, given the recent announcement that Chicago Fire characters Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) are Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) will soon be written off the show, but there's no reason to stress about Kidd's future.
