Exclusive: Composer Ólafur Arnalds, who won a Bafta for his work on Broadchurch and had compositions featured on Nomadland and The Hunger Games, has boarded documentary Ari’s Theme as executive producer ahead of its world premiere at Hot Docs.
Nathan Drillot and Jeff Lee Petry’s work follows the real-life figure of Ari Kinarthy, a 34 year old music composer with the rare genetic condition Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, which causes his muscles to deteriorate and will shorten his life.
By sixteen, he had lost the ability to move his arms but through a music therapy program he was introduced to composing, finding his life’s purpose.
The documentary follows Kinarthy 18 years later as he embarks on the project to create the soundtrack of the most impactful memories of his young life in a bid to leave legacy.
“We can’t ever know how long we’ll be remembered or what impact we really made.

Russell T. Davies was the man behind the golden age of Dr. Who with David Tennant. Throughout his tenure, ratings were consistently between 7.5 and 8 million per episode. This put David Tennant up there with the Fifth Doctor Peter Davison (1982-84), but behind the Fourth Doctor Tom Baker (1974-80), who at times attracted over 10 million viewers. Of course, it's worth noting that both of these were before the era of so many alternative channels.
First impressions from the Christmas special, The Church on Ruby Road, suggest that Ncuti Gatwa has the personality that the Doctor has lacked somewhat since Tennant left the role. And the chemistry between him and Millie Gibson, who plays Ruby, also gave us something to look forward to when the new season lands on May 11.

Back in 2013, David Tennant and the not-yet-a-list Olivia Colman broke our brains with the first season of Broadchurch, a series written with a self-contained first season but which proved so popular it lasted for three years.
The outstanding first season of Broadchurch centers around the death of a young boy in a small, seemingly idyllic community. The sudden and horrible death of 11-year-old Danny sends his town in a tailspin. The investigation is run by the cheerful Detective Miller (Colman) and her equally dour partner, the recently transferred Detective Alec Hardy (Tennant).
Part of what made Broadchurch so interesting is that it wasn't just about the 'whodunnit' of it all. The series was not only interested in solving the crime, but also in examining the impact of Danny's death, the resulting media attention, and the investigation on a tight-knit community.
Now, fans of Broadchurch are discovering another David Tennant must-watch crime drama.

Olivia Colman’s impressive range as an actress seems to know no bounds. A favorite in the UK for her television work in such sitcoms as “The Office” and “Fleabag,” TV audiences also lauded her for her dramatic performances in “Broadchurch” and “The Night Manager,” as well as more recently with “The Crown” and “Landscapers.” But it has been her estimable work in films that continues to bring her international renown.
With such acclaim from audiences, it was inevitable that awards would begin coming her way. She took home the Oscar for Best Actress for “The Favourite” (2018) and scored an additional Best Supporting Actress nomination for “The Father” (2020). For her work in television, Colman has received four Emmy bids, winning for “The Crown.” She also claimed Golden Globe statues for both TV (“The Night Manager” and “The Crown”) and film (“The Favourite”). Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman have been among the most popular and sought-after actors in recent years. Although he became popular thanks to his role in Fleabag, Scott’s breakout performance was BBC’s Sherlock, in which he portrayed an amazing version of Moriarty. Since then, he has starred in the amazing drama All of Us Strangers and is currently set to star as Tom Ripley in Netflix’s series.
Olivia Colman, on the other hand, is a well-known British comedian whose breakout performance was in the crime drama Broadchurch, where she starred alongside David Tennant. Since then, she has landed roles in The Night Manager, as well as her Oscar-winning performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, among others. In the quiet little English hamlet of Littlehampton, someone has been sending out anonymous letters to their fellow townsfolk. Not just any types of greetings or wish-you-were-here correspondence circa the early 1920s, mind you. These unsigned missives say things like, “You foxy-ass old whore,” or “You dirty old bitch, you belong in hell, probably,” and “You suck 10 cocks a week, minimum.” These are some of the tamer ones, mind you. This epidemic of epistolary obscenities first began to show up at the door of one Edith Swan (Olivia Colman), a...

Olivia Colman got candid about the gender pay disparity in Hollywood during a recent appearance on CNN’s “The Amanpour Hour.”
“Don’t get me started on the pay disparity, but male actors get paid more because they used to say they drew in the audiences,” Colman said. “And actually, that hasn’t been true for decades, but they still like to use that as a reason to not pay women as much as their male counterparts.”
Host Christiane Amanpour then asked Colman if she has experienced pay disparity herself, despite being an Oscar winner.
“I’m very aware that if I was Oliver Colman, I’d be earning a fuck of a lot more than I am,” “The Crown” star said in response. “I know of one pay disparity, which is a 12,000% difference. Do the maths, I know.”

Twin Peaks. Sunnydale. Castle Rock. Hawkins… America’s TV monopoly on small towns where Weird Stuff Happens has gone on for too long. Britain was once home to The Wicker Man, Children of the Stones and The Prisoner, all classics of the ‘something’s not right here’ genre. Isn’t it about time the UK put a few creepy burgs back on the map?

Actor Andrew Buchan makes his screenwriting debut with ITV thriller Passenger, and here’s the trailer.
Andrew Buchan is probably best known for playing grieving father Mark Latimer in Chris Chibnall’s whodunnit Broadchurch. He has also played the title role in drama The Fixer, as well as parts in films like Nowhere Boy, All The Money In The World and The Mercy.
He now makes his screenwriting debut with ITV thriller Passenger.

Then one night local girl Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson) mysteriously disappears. The town barely has time to register her absence before she reappears the next day, apparently safe and sound. Constellation is a twisting thriller series set in space that airs on Apple TV Plus. From The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace appears in this sci-fi drama as Jo, an astronaut who returns to Earth after a space incident, only to discover that her life has changed.
She’s left with little choice except to reveal the dark history of space exploration and try to get back what she lost.

Noomi Rapace Put Her Life Back Again in ‘Constellation’ Trailer. The trailer opens by offering more details about Jo’s life, particularly how she has a family eagerly awaiting her back on Earth.
Their reunion might seem friendly, but the tone stays strange, pointing to how Jo’s life has changed since the accident. Her life is not missing parts due to memory loss—not really. In contrast, Jo’s life is entirely different, even regarding her daughter.

Death and Other Details is the brand-new Hulu original series in the whodunit genre that follows in the footsteps of Knives Out, Gone Girl, Fargo, Seven, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, True Detective, and Broadchurch. These are probably some of the best crime dramas in which a murderer is a looming figure throughout the runtime while the investigation and questioning happen simultaneously, as many are eager to find out who the killer could be. The Hulu series revolves around a murder that takes place on a cruise liner. Every person associated with the victim is under scrutiny and being treated as a suspect. Each episode unfolds a new facet of each character on board, and the first one is an introduction to the show.

The ITV drama Mr Bates vs. the Post Office has become the British broadcaster’s biggest new drama in over a decade, beating even the launch of Downton Abbey back in 2010.
The four-part drama series was aired initially in the first week of 2024, and has now reported more than 16.6million streams on the Itvx streaming platform.
The drama tells the true story of how hundreds of the UK’s Post Office local branch managers were fobbed off by the Post Office national executive when they reported mistakes with their accounting, and were held accountable for the deficits in the figures that ensued. The truth was that faulty software was responsible for the many mistakes, but not before many innocent people had been sacked, made bankrupt and homeless, and convicted of false accounting. The ‘Mr Bates’ of the title was the lead campaigner who battled for 20 years to secure justice for the many victims.

It’s here, the newest Netflix thriller adapted from one of Harlan Coben’s ludicrously twist-packed, secret-filled crime mystery novels. This one comes adapted by Danny Brocklehurst with the same UK team that made The Five, Safe, The Stranger and Stay Close, and once again stars Richard Armitage in a central role.
Fool Me Once is the story of military helicopter pilot Maya Stern, a captain who loses her career in a scandal and suffers two bereavements in short succession. It’s fast-paced, kind of ridiculous viewing that takes you down an extremely twisty path before tying everything up in a big not-exactly-watertight-but-it’ll-do-fine knot – which makes it pretty perfect viewing for a brain-fogged New Year’s Day after all of December’s indulgences.
Find out more about the cast of this one below, and happy binge-watching!

Netflix’s latest miniseries, A Nearly Normal Family, based on M.T. Edvardsson’s best-selling novel, starts with a bang but ends up stumbling. It revolves around Stella Sandell (Alexandra Karlsson Tyrefors), a girl accused of killing her boyfriend, Chris, with all the evidence pointing towards her. Despite the prosecution pushing for maximum jail time, she’s released on a technicality. The series sets up high expectations for Stella’s parents, Adam (Björn Bengtsson) and Ulrika (Lo Kauppi), hinting that they’ve got some big shoes to fill. Sadly, both ended up as just a bickering couple with limited impact. Despite this, A Nearly Normal Family manages to be a decent watch, keeping you entertained. If you’re in the mood for something similar, here’s a list to try your luck with.

Oscar winner Olivia Colman is set to star as a fisherwoman and Dev Patel as her inanimate made-to-order husband in the twisted romance pic Wicker.
Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson will direct the indie from a script they adapted based on a short story, The Wicker Husband, by Ursula Wills-Jones. Topic Studios and Tango will finance and produce Wicker, with the cameras set to start rolling next year.
Colman will play a smelly and ridiculed fisherwoman in a seaside village where, fed up with small-minded neighbors, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker, who is played by Patel. In an otherwise conservative town, their unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos, the producers say in their film synopsis.
Black Bear will open international sales for Wicker in the American Film Market, while CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group will handle sales on the U.

With the project a Mipcom priority for BBC Studios, who are repping international distribution rights, exec producers Matthew Read and Frith Tiplady sat down with Variety to discuss why “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” has the potential to rival the Queen of Crime herself, Agatha Christie.

When we talk about film royalty, one name should reverberate worldwide: Kapoor.
India’s eminent acting dynasty first appeared on screen in the 1930s, and still dominates to this day. After generations of raising male actors, the family turned to its daughters and, at the turn of the century, ushered in the era of Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Khan was always outside the Bollywood mold of singing, dancing, beautified heroines. Early films like “Refugee” and “Chameli” showed her capacity for drama, while commercial projects like “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham” and “Mujhse Dosti Karoge” cast her as an over-the-top beauty queen (and retroactive feminist icon).
After more than 20 years leading Hindi films, the actor takes her first plunge into producing with Hansal Mehta’s “The Buckingham Murders,” premiering October 14 at the BFI London Film Festival.

British investigation dramas are one of a kind. Every single story in this genre is executed in a different manner, which leaves the audience surprised in most cases. Broadchurch, Sherlock, Midsomer Murders, Happy Valley, and Bodyguard are some of the prime examples of how good the shows can get if a lot of time is invested in a good screenplay and casting the right actors. Mostly, it is the BBC that is churning out great television in this genre. Adding to the list is Annika, created by Nick Walker. This limited series is a Scottish police drama about a new branch of the investigation team and their attempts to get grips with new assignments.
