Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. It's worth quoting the latest (perhaps the last?) gnomic pronouncements from Margaret "The Log Lady" Lanterman (the late Catherine E. Coulson), speaking via phone to Deputy Sheriff Tommy "Hawk" Hill (Michael Horse), in full: "Hawk—electricity is humming. You hear it in the mountains and rivers. You see it dance among the seas and stars. And glowing around the moon. But in these days, the glow is dying. What will be in the darkness that remains? The Truman brothers are both true men. They are your brothers. And the others, the good ones, who have been with you. Now the circle is almost complete. Watch and listen to the dream of time and space. It all comes out now, flowing like a river. That which is and is not.

I hope I'm never in a situation where I need a public defender.
But if I ever am, I'll want the one who represented Ted Reynolds on Chicago Justice Season 1 Episode 11.
In real life, public defenders are overworked, underpaid, and often don't have the time to devote to their clients that private attorneys do, leading to a situation where poorer people don't get the adequate defense to which they are entitled.
Ted's lawyer, on the other hand, was a fierce advocate who did her best to stop the State's Attorney's office from playing games to get an indictment and was tough on witnesses during the trial.
The whole case hinged upon the question of what to do about a hit-and-run fatality that apparently happened because a woman thought she had to rush to save her daughter's life.
Jeffries: So no one was kidnapped?
Stone: It was a virtual kidnapping.
Jeffries: Unfortunately,...

We all know the feeling of having to say goodbye to a show or series that we love, and fans of Disney’s Gravity Falls must endure that pain today, as the hour-long series finale—hosted by creator Alexander Hirsch—airs tonight on Disney Xd.
I had no idea what I was getting into when my roommate sat me down and demanded to show me what she reffered to as The X-Files for kids. Being a fan of cartoons, I was more than willing to watch a few episodes, but little did I know how quickly I would fall in love with the Pines Family and the strange town of Gravity Falls.
The skinny: Twins Dipper (Jason Ritter) and Mabel Pines (Kristen Schaal) are spending the summer in Gravity Falls, Roadkill County, Oregon with their Great Uncle Stan (Grunkle Stan voiced by Alex Hirsch), who runs a tourist trap called The Mystery Shack.

In an effort to get all my ducks in a row for our "True Detective" podcast I decided to sit down and rewatch the first three episodes, taking notes on each character, situation and the fictional city of Vinci. Before getting to the dirty details, the nuts and bolts of the series begin with the murder of Vinci City Manager Benjamin Caspere, a murder that brings together Detective Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams), Detective Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell), Officer Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch) and career criminal attempting to go legit, Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn). Ray Velcoro is a drunk, troubled detective with an ex-wife looking for sole custody of their child and the misfortune of working the Caspere murder case while also having to answer to the corrupt Vinci police department, mayor and Frank Semyon. Semyon finds himself in a financial fix as a result of Caspere's death as Caspere was...

Jessica outside the Elgin in TorontoOne of my fondest memories of Tiff 13 will be the simple fact that I sat in the same theater with Jessica Chastain for what appeared to be one of the most personal moments of her career. Proximity glory even from the balcony, people.

Jason Ritter is set as the male lead in Friends & Family, Fox‘s single-camera comedy pilot from writer David Rosen, Sony TV and BBC Worldwide Prods. Based on the UK series Gavin & Stacey, Friends & Family focuses on the key life moments for Gavin (Ritter) and Stacey, who try to maintain their relationship while combining their polarizing families’ lives. Gavin is described as adorably neurotic, a good guy who’s excited about his first real date with Stacey, a co-worker from rural Pennsylvania he’s become friends with through Skype and Facebook. Ritter, repped by ICM Partners and the Burstein Co., was among the sought after young actors this pilot season. He recently recurred on NBC’s Parenthood and last season toplined NBC’s drama pilot County.

This marks Wme-repped Fleder’s third pilot for the CW and CBS TV Studios. The previous two, Beauty And The Beast and Life Unexpected, both went to series. I finally watched Brave and now I fully understand why it’s doing so well on the Blu-Ray sales charts. Instead of trying to convince you to add it to your collection, I’ll just point you in the direction of our Brave Blu-Ray review. Last week’s featured Blu-Ray, The Expendables 2, isn’t doing so well even though I thought it was a boatload of eighties-action awesomeness. Our own review was posted in our Blu-Ray reviews section yesterday for your reading pleasure.
This week, Men in Black 3 tries to make time travel even groovier, ParaNorman takes you on a creepily-fun ride, and one of my favorite guilty pleasures gets its second season released on Blu-Ray.

Like a classic book series, or your favorite film franchise, no television show is completely flawless. Long form storytelling offers a lot of narrative potential, but also creates more opportunities to royally screw up that potential, and one bad plotline can be all it takes to ruin a good show. A bad story or two hasn’t kept some of the all time best programs from being just that however, and in retrospect, many stumbles that initially appeared toxic, turned out to be relatively harmless overall.
That doesn’t mean those mistakes didn’t suck horribly in the moment though, and a show bouncing back from a bad turn should be remembered just as much as what caused the problem in the first place. So let’s take a pained look back at when our favorite shows were saddled with some of the very worst of story arcs, the likes of which include forced romances,...

Because "Parenthood" meets "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" would be an impossible pitch for anyone to resist, Fox has made a put pilot commitment for a CIA dramedy from "Parenthood" executive producer Jason Katims and "Smith" screenwriter Simon Kinberg.
According to Deadline, the show won't follow a married couple but instead tracks a young upstart agent who develops an unexpected father-son bond with his veteran handler. Sounds a little like "Alias" if Sydney Bristow had a sex change.
We'd watch anything with Katims' stamp on it (he also shepherded "Friday Night Lights" through its five seasons and won a richly deserved Emmy for writing the series finale), so this already sounds like one of the more promising pilots in contention for fall 2013.
But don't get too excited just yet. Kinberg attempted to turn "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" into a weekly series in 2007 starring Martin Henderson ("Off the Map") and Jordana Brewster...

Now that the networks have announced their fall (and midseason) schedules for next season, we can gaze upon the annual pilot graveyard and despair. The pilot process is a fraught one, and this year, several high-profile projects didn't make the cut. It's not all bad news, though: That frees up some of our favorite performers and writers for other gigs — at least, we hope so. Herewith, a list of the shows that are floating off to the TV scrap heap in the sky.County, NBC Jason Ritter, Michael Imperioli, Michael B. Jordan, and Norbert Leo starred in the Jason Katims ER-like hospital drama. Big loss? Yes and no: There's not really a big need for a hospital drama, and while we love the cast and creative team, wouldn't you rather see Katims (Fnl, Parenthood) keep his focus on less-predictable formats? Ripple effect: Ritter can stay on Parenthood next season!

Broadcast’s dog-and-pony shows in New York City are finally over, but the walk-up to the fall 2012-2013 lineup has only just begun. Before we start wringing our hands over Britney Spears’ emotional readiness to be a reality show judge, we have some knee-jerk reactions to what we saw and heard this week:
Biggest trend: Comedy explosion. There’s 29 sitcoms hitting the air this fall — and we’re not including Rock Center With Brian Williams. That’s an enormous number of couches, awkward dates and workplace misunderstandings. Tuesdays will be a three-network comedy traffic jam, while ABC and NBC will offload extra chuckles into Fridays.

Jason Ritter stars in an excellent new film called The Perfect Family, where the characters comprise a clan that is anything but. From The Cleary's blindly devout mother to her lesbian daughter and directionless son, the film is a fascinating portrait of a modern American family -- one that puts the fun is dysfunction.
And a family that stands in stark contrast to the all-too-together Bravermans on NBC's Parenthood, where Jason plays Mark, potential fiance of eldest daughter Sarah. But what effect will his role on a potential new NBC series have on Mark's return? That was one of the questions I asked Jason when we caught up earlier this week to chat.

In less than one month, the five broadcast networks will storm Madison Avenue in New York with a whole new crop of shows that will either have the power to blow the roof off Nielsen — or give cable another opportunity to crow about their greatness. Will the (near) future of broadcast TV rest on the shoulders of more beauties and beasts? Do viewers want an updated Sherlock Holmes? Is primetime really the place for Hannibal Lecter?
Here is the complete list of pilots that are currently under consideration for fall. As usual, not every project will make the cut — but...

We still haven't heard from NBC as to whether or not "Parenthood" has been picked up for Season 4, but we've got our fingers and toes crossed and we're ready to start Twitter petitions should the need arise.
Though that's still in flux, we've got some good news for "Parenthood" fans -- Jason Ritter promises to return to the show as Mark Cyr, even though he's leading Jason Katims' new medical drama pilot, "County."
"People are going, 'Oh God, it's going to break them up!' I think the characters are so far in that relationship that you can't just end it abruptly, especially when I've just asked her to marry me," Ritter tells Vulture.
"It's not as if 'County' is a one-guy show -- it's about all six of us -- so I'll have time to run back and forth. So we'll see what happens. Whatever they choose,...

When it was announced that Jason Ritter had signed on for Jason Katims' new pilot, County, fans of Parenthood freaked out in unison since that implied an unhappy ending for his character's relationship with Sarah.
And while there are lots of factors in limbo with this situation (neither County nor Parenthood have been officially picked up for next season), Ritter reassures fans that Mark and Sarah's storyline isn't coming to a premature end.

Every year, the five major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC) order pilots to be considered for the fall season. A pilot, as you may know, is the first episode of a TV series and the final step in a long development process from idea to screen.
From the 87 drama and comedy pilots ordered this year, a new crop of television shows will be selected -- and I read the scripts for each and every one of them. Over the course of this week, I'm walking you through the network's pilot slates, offering a bit of analysis on their present schedules and providing you with a rundown of the drama contenders. (Plus, a little bit of info about the comedies, too.) Of course, not all of these shows will find their way to your TV set -- in fact, most of them you may never hear of again.

Exclusive: Parenthood Co-Executive Producer Sarah Watson has signed a two-year overall deal with Universal Television, the studio behind the NBC dramedy. This marks the first overall pact for Watson, who has been on Parenthood since day one, rising through the ranks from producer to co-executive producer. Keeping Watson in the fold was important to Parenthood executive producer/showrunner Jason Katims who has a new pilot, County, in consideration at NBC. Under her pact, Watson is expected to work on Parenthood if it is renewed for a fourth season, which appears likely, or County, if it is picked up to series. Additionally, UTA-repped Watson will embark on her first development.

A lot has changed since Michael B. Jordan filmed his guest stint on tonight’s episode of House. For one, at the time, he (and likely many of those around him) had no idea they were working on one of the show’s last episodes ever.
“I don’t think at the time I was shooting the show people knew it was going to be the last season,” he says. “But it’s one of those shows that you want to be involved in at some point in your career — like a Law & Order or CSI. To be able to...

This season, we had Eddie Cibrian (The Playboy Club), Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova), Hank Azaria (Free Agents), Kevin Dillon (How to Be a Gentleman), Mather Zickel (Man Up!), and Amaury Nolasco (Work It).
It didn’t work out too well for those guys, did it?
Fortunately, the failures of yesterday don’t seem to be quashing hopes for the (potential) successes of tomorrow. An excellent crop of new (and familiar) male stars are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Jim Caviezel (who’s truly nailed it on Person of Interest this season) and Henry Czerny (the very underappreciated...

After the high profile and, what Hollywood execs like to call “high concept” shows of last week’s article, this week I will be going through new pilots which follow two trends I like to call “remaking is breaking” and “Desperate Housewives is over and Grey’s Anatomy has got to end sometime”.
Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives have been big ratings pulls in the coveted demographic (18-49 if you don’t know) for ABC and have meant big advertising bucks. And, even though Grey’s prolific creator Shonda Rhimes, who will be show running three to five shows next season depending on pickups, has claimed that Grey’s will move past eight seasons, there is a general sense that the show is on the decline and, coupled with the loss of Desperate Housewives at the end of the current season, there is a definite hole in the market.
