When Jenna and Tracy are interviewing Lutz, he continues to place stacks of papers on the shelf as they talk. This, and his first line of dialogue, are an in-joke to John Mulaney, former Saturday Night Live (1975) writer and friend of Tina Fey, who had a stand-up bit about Law & Order (1990) in which delivery men casually unload crates while being interrogated by homicide detectives.
This is the first "30 Rock" episode that Liz and Jack don't interact with each other.
Frank's mother refers to Liz as an older woman, Judah Friedlander, who plays Frank, is older than Tina Fey, who plays Liz.
Liz explains that she can sense the sadness and heartbreak from eating Frank's tear-filled meatballs. This is a subtle reference to the film Like Water for Chocolate (1992).
When Jack compliments Kenneths suit, Kenneth says that it belongs to his father, and shows the name tag that reads "D.B. Cooper". This refers to Dan(D.B.) Cooper, an airline hijacker, who on November 24th, 1971, hijacked a Northwestern Airline flight 305 between Portland and Seattle and extorted about $200,000. To this day no one has found him or the money.
