- Lucas Conroy: [sharing is father's advice] "Do not get up in the business of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with catsup."
- Melinda Davis: Olivia, sweetheart, it's all right to make wishes and say prayers as long as it doesn't make us unhappy with the life that we're livin'. We can't always have what we want, we can't always have what we wish for, but we can be content with what we have.
- [Olivia is sent to detention for getting into a fight with Joey the class bully on the school playground to defend her best friend, Lucas]
- Olivia Mead: I guess you're gonna have to call my mom in and talk to her about this.
- Mr. Brennan: I don't know if it requires that. I haven't been here very long, but I'm guessing that was a rare occurrence for you?
- Olivia Mead: Well, my mom likes to know things that's going on with me at school, and she likes to hear it firsthand.
- Mr. Brennan: Well, I'm sure the principal would be glad to talk to her about it if it comes to that, but it won't happen again, will it? Look, I know Joey's a problem and I'll keep my eye on him, but you let a teacher handle it, okay?
- [Olivia nods her head in agreement]
- Mr. Brennan: Alright, you can go now.
