ABC just ordered a third comedy pilot starring John Leguizamo in twelve months. The untitled multi-camera comedy is based on Leguizamo’s life as a husband, father and fish out of water on the upper West Side of New York as reflected in his one-person shows. Woven into this world are his privileged wife, his friends from his life back in the Bronx, his mother and grandfather who try to keep him grounded in his Latin roots, and his own kids who he worries are getting spoiled and losing touch with reality. Leguizamo co-wrote the story for the pilot with former Family Guy executive producer/co-showrunner Chris Sheridan. Sheridan wrote the teleplay and executive produces with Leguizamo, Leguizamo’s longtime manager Jeff Golenberg of the Collective, the company’s Sam Maydew as well as Mandeville’s David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and Maria Crenna. The project has been in the works...

ABC has dethroned Kings of Van Nuys… again.
The alphabet net has passed on a retooled version of the comedy pilot, which was an adaptation of the British series Only Fools and Horses, our sister site Deadline reports.
The multi-camera sitcom was to star John Leguizamo (ER) and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future) as two members of a family caught up in zany get-rich-quick schemes. Bridesmaids‘ Wendi McLendon-Covey also appeared in the pilot.
The potential series was originally developed last pilot season. Though the network initially passed,...

ABC has passed on Kings Of Van Nuys, its comedy pilot starring John Leguizamo. This was the second pilot for the multi-camera project based on the British format Only Fools And Horses, which was originally developed and picked up the pilot last season. It missed the cut but ABC chief Paul Lee, a big fan of the original series, liked it enough to order a retooling. Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, who wrote the original pilot, penned the new version. Virtually the entire team from the first pilot, including everyone from the cast and director Ted Wass, returned for the new pilot, which was formally greenlighted in late August. After screening the second pilot, ABC brass decided not to go forward with the project. The timing is fortunate for the cast as they will now be available for pilot season. The ABC Studios-produced Kings Of Van Nuys chronicled the misadventures of two streetwise brothers,...

ABC has given a formal green light to a new pilot for Kings Of Van Nuys starring John Leguizamo. ABC first ordered a pilot for the multi-camera project, based on the British format Only Fools And Horses, last season. It missed the cut but ABC chief Paul Lee, a big fan of the original series, liked it enough to order a retooling. Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, who wrote the original pilot, penned a new version. A month ago at TCA, stressing the ABC’s ongoing commitment to the multi-camera comedy genre, Lee noted that Kings Of Van Nuys was being re-piloted. Back then, the new script was still being written and deals with the actors were being made. The network is now going ahead with shooting a new pilot after securing virtually the entire team from the original pilot, including the entire cast and director Ted Wass. The ABC Studios...

After the high profile and, what Hollywood execs like to call “high concept” shows of last week’s article, this week I will be going through new pilots which follow two trends I like to call “remaking is breaking” and “Desperate Housewives is over and Grey’s Anatomy has got to end sometime”.
Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives have been big ratings pulls in the coveted demographic (18-49 if you don’t know) for ABC and have meant big advertising bucks. And, even though Grey’s prolific creator Shonda Rhimes, who will be show running three to five shows next season depending on pickups, has claimed that Grey’s will move past eight seasons, there is a general sense that the show is on the decline and, coupled with the loss of Desperate Housewives at the end of the current season, there is a definite hole in the market.

Here's a story to make you wonder whether it's Shrove Tuesday or April Fool's Day or indeed 'What The Cr#p?' Day. Yes, that's right: John Leguizamo has been cast as Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter in ABC's Us pilot of Only Fools And Horses. The '80s British telly staple is to be dusted off and given an American makeover. Leguizamo has taken the lead role as part of his new development deal with ABC, although there's no word yet on who'll be joining him behind the wheel of that Reliant (or Us equivalent) as Rodney.Scrubs writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley are charged with translating the references to Trevor Francis tracksuits and pot pourri into something Us-friendly. According to Deadline Hollywood, Leguizamo’s long-time manager Jeff Golenberg takes exec-producer duties.Question is: what have you got left when you strip away the '80s get-rich-quick, cushty cockneyisms,...

Exclusive: Just 10 days after actor-comedian John Leguizamo signed a development deal with ABC and ABC Studios, he has signed on to star in the ABC/ABC Studios multicamera comedy pilot Only Fools And Horses. Based on the British format, the multicamera comedy chronicles the misadventures of two streetwise brothers, Del (Leguizamo) and Rodney, and their aging grandfather as they concoct outrageous, morally questionable get-rich-quick schemes in their quest to become millionaires. Del, the older brother, is the leader of the team. He is an overly confident bon vivant and con artist who trades crap out of the back of his car, cheerful and oblivious to the fact that he is a lowlife scamster. Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley wrote the adaptation and will executive produce with Leguizamo’s longtime manager Jeff Golenberg of the Collective. As part of Leguizamo’s deal with ABC, if Only Fools And Horses doesn’t go to series,...
