Although the “Black Dawn” story arc currently unfolding in the pages of Superman may not be as strong as previous offerings, we can probably all agree that it’s still a decent read and that the creative team of Peter J. Tomasi, Pat Gleason and Doug Mahnke haven’t really steered us wrong since taking the wheel at the start of Rebirth.
If you’ve been keeping up with the title, you’re well aware that the Kent family’s neighbor who looks an awful lot like Wilford Brimley isn’t exactly what he seems to be and has so far succeeded in getting the drop on Batman and Superman alike. And from what we can tell, a mysterious force is pulling the strings of both him and the townsfolk.
Now, when the “Black Dawn” finale, Superman #25, was originally solicited, a cover didn’t accompany it, but here’s what...

A cast of eclectic characters come together with bloody results in the official trailer for Bastard. Also featured in our latest round-up are release details on Joe Kelly's graphic novel, Bang!Tango, as well as four new T-shirts from Fright Rags, including one that showcases Dr. Decker from Clive Barker's Nightbreed.
Bastard: "Directed by Powell Robinson and Patrick R Young, Bastard stars Rebekah Kennedy, Ellis Greer, Dan Creed, Will Tranfo, and Tonya Kay.
Bastard follows newlywed, hitch-hiking serial killers, a brother and sister on the run, and a trigger-happy suicidal cop as they get caught in an increasingly bizarre series of murders committed by a masked killer near a mountain-town bed and breakfast."

Following the trailer for Batman Vs. Robin, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have released the cover art for the animated film along with some additional details. The reaction from fans regarding this movie have been mixed, especially since a lot of people didn't seem very happy with the last movie, Son of Batman. I think it will offer some fun entertainment regardless.
The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva (Batman: Assault on Arkham) from a script written by J.M. DeMatteis. Here's a new synopsis for the film that offers some additional story details:
The shadows of Gotham City are no place for a child but Damian Wayne is no ordinary child. Now bearing the mantle of Robin, he blazes a headstrong and sometimes reckless trail alongside his father, Batman. While investigating a crime scene, Robin encounters a mysterious figure, Talon, who leads him on a life-altering course through the...

Warner Bros. Animation has released the first trailer for their upcoming DC Entertainment feature-length film Batman Vs. Robin. This movie looks like it's going to be really cool. The animation is really well done, and it tells an intriguing story. The movie is being directed by Jay Oliva, who has directed five previous DC Animation features, and the story will revolve around a secret society named the Court of Owls, which dates back to the early days of Gotham City. They kidnap children and raise them to be assassins. It will obviously incorporate elements of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's comic series.
The voice cast for the film features Jason O'Mara (Sons of Liberty) returning as Batman; Stuart Allen (Bad Teacher) as Robin; Sean Maher (Arrow) coming back for Nightwing; David McCallum (NCIS) as Alfred; Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under) as Talon; voice actor Grey Griffin as a mysterious...

DC Entertainment has been developing a new animated film project called Batman Vs. Robin, and thanks to THR we have some information on the film and the voice cast, which features a good mix of newcomers and old favorites.
DC and Warner Bros. have been doing a solid job with the animated features they've been releasing lately. They are consistent with the scheduling as well, which is great. It's one animated film after another, and the fans seem to be loving it.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice storyboard artist Jay Oliva is directing this new film, and the story will revolve around a "secret society dating back to the early days of Gotham City that kidnapped children and raised them to be assassins."

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the voice cast for Batman Vs. Robin, the upcoming animated movie which is inspired by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's "The Court of Owls". Jason O'Mara (Sons of Liberty) will return as Batman, with Stuart Allen (Bad Teacher) voicing Robin and Sean Maher (Arrow) once again reprising the role of Nightwing. Another familiar voice will be David McCallum (NCIS) as Alfred. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice storyboard artist Jay Oliva is directing. New additions include Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under) as Talon, voice actor Grey Griffin as a mysterious character known only as Samantha, and bizarrely, Al Yankovic as The Dollmaker. Robin Atkin Downes (Superman vs. The Elite) is Grandmaster, while Peter Onorati voices a man named Draco. Finally, while he's unfortunately not voicing the Caped Crusader himself, Kevin Conroy will cameo as Thomas Wayne. Are you guys looking forward to Batman Vs. Robin?...

Although Marvel currently rules the superhero cinema landscape with their stable of superheroes, DC keeps pumping out animated feature films based on popular graphic novels or storylines from the comics. Most, such as Batman: Under The Red Hood or Superman vs. The Elite, have been fairly loose adaptations of the source material while some others have been direct or close to direct adaptations, the most notable probably being Batman: Year One. With next year’s slate of animated features already set, being Justice League: War, Son of Batman and Batman: Arkham Assualt, perhaps it is time to start speculating on what 2015′s features will bring.
Considering 2015 is the highly anticipated Batman/Superman film, no doubt DC will once again piggyback off that film to promote one or more of their new animated features.
WhatCulture writer James Garcia wrote an article a few weeks ago titled 10 Batman Stories That Should Be Adapted Into Animated Films.

Man of Steel; the movie that as divided fans of all sorts. There are those who believe it's terrible, others believe it' was just good, and others think it was phenomenal. I for one think it was just good but this isn't what this article is about. This article is about what people's views towards certain moments in the movie reveal about us so lets get started. Above is a scene from Superman Vs. The Elite in this scene Superman reveals a moment when he heard a kid say that he wants to grow up and be in The Elite so because he thinks it would be fun to kill people. Now this is one of my favorite scenes of the movie but it had always seemed strange because it didn't seem like something I would hear a kid say in real life. Though all that changed when I heard...

1. There is a lot of so called "superman" fans(critics) that claim that this is a tedious action film that doesn't have Donner's influence anywhere in it. I say, that if you want to take the contrariety route then they simply need to stop giving reviews based off of that. Reeve's superman is for those who loved superman before 1986. Why 1986? Well, if you are a comic book fan everyone knows that "the Dark Knight Returns" made superman into a political "yes" man, that turned superman into a cold, dark enforcer. But..... As always, critics overlook things like this and think the Man of Steel was trying to break traditional convention and sabotage "their" version of superman they loved(the kitty cat saving one). While overlooking the superman that exists today. 2. Would the critics like superman that exists in stories like Superman vs. the elite? How about Red...

The Wrap have learned exclusively that due to the current downturn of the home entertainment industry, Warner Bros. has shut down its direct-to-video label Warner Premiere this summer. "Given the continuing decline in the direct-to-video film market and shifting business models in the production of digital series, the decision was made to close Warner Premiere," the studio said in a statement to TheWrap. The site goes on to report that the division will finish production on its remaining film and digital series slate this Fall. Since 2007, Warner Premiere has released Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: The New Frontier, Batman: Gotham Knight, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and most recently Superman vs. The Elite. This announcement won't effect The Dark Knight Returns: Part 1 but your guess is as good as mine on whether...

Chicago – It always takes a few minutes for viewers to adjust their eyes to the stiff, herky-jerky movements of characters in a direct-to-video animated film from DC Comics. “Superman vs. The Elite” opens with a cheeseball caricature of the Man of Steel headlining an outdated kiddie cartoon. It’s pretty silly, but at least the satirical characters are far more expressive than the “real” Superman once he rears his blandly noble head.
Yet as soon as I was ready to write off this seemingly disposable release, it won me over with its witty banter, topical themes and a villain who could prove to be a real showstopper if he was brought to the big screen. If Zack Snyder’s upcoming “Superman” reboot is a solid hit, then I suggest that studios consider Joe Kelly’s Action Comics yarn, “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?” as source material for the sequel.

Synopsis: The Elite, a team of super-powered antiheroes, is renowned for killing their enemies. Despite the acclaim and approval the Elite enjoy, Superman knows they are in the wrong, creating more harm than good by their methods. Tensions between them finally culminate in a mass showdown on Jupiter’s moons, when Superman is forced to prove that violence is never a positive.
Review: Superman vs. the Elite opens with this great Sex Pistols-esque Punk rock-retro Superman montage. Its sets a great tone right off the bat. I think that I benefit a lot from the Dc Universe films in that I haven't read a lot of the story arcs that they're based on and that makes them far more enjoyable for me personally. I have no...

Marvel might rule the live-action comic book movie arena, but when it comes to direct-to-dvd animated action DC takes the trophy. They consistently pump out great versions of different story arcs comic book fans have wanted to see in motion for decades. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Premiere bring us the latest animated addition to their movie collection with Superman vs. The Elite.
The movie is based on the 2001 story "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" that was published in Action Comics #775. The new group known as the Elite does what it has to in order to get the job done… which includes killing the enemy. If you bought D.C.’s latest original animated movie “Superman vs. The Elite”, then you were already treated to this 13-minute sneak peek featurette for the making of D.C./Warner’s next offering, an adaptation of Frank Miller’s 1980s seminal Batman story, “The Dark Knight Returns”. In fact, the story is so epic, D.C. and Warner Bros. will be splitting it into two parts. From the featurette, it looks like the first part will only deal with Batman’s re-emergence, as well as his battles with Two-Face and the Mutant Army. But from the sounds of it (or, ahem, laugh of it), the Joker is being saved for part 2. The big question is: will it just be the Joker, or will it also be a certain superpowered being with a big “S” on his chest, too? Batman has not been seen for ten years. A new...

A couple of disappointing sequels, Vincent Chase's final performance, and a handful of new Criterion discs basically sum up this week's crop of DVD and Blu-ray releases. The two major releases hitting stores shelves are Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, neither of which I am particularly eager to revisit. Looking beyond that, we also have the French plane hijack thriller The Assault, the DC animated title Superman vs. The Elite, and Vincent D'Onofrio's much maligned horror-musical Don't Go in the Woods. The only real notewothy TV release is the final season of HBO's Entourage, and new to Blu-ray we have Meatballs, Red Scorpion and Criterion re-releases of Hal Ashby's Harold and Maude,Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush and Danny Boyle's Shallow Grave. What will you be buying or renting this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

Most superhero movies try so hard to be the “definitive” story for the broadest possible audience that a lot of great, strange, and nuanced story arcs from the character’s life in print get ignored.
Thankfully, they sometimes turn up in animation, such as DC Comics upcoming Superman vs. The Elite, a PG-13 rated adaptation of a 2001 comic tale in which the Man of Steel finds himself fighting alongside — and then against — a quartet of young superpowered upstarts who are famous not just for stopping their foes, but killing them.

In the 1940s, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster produced a two-pager for Life that showed if the Man of Steel were alive, he’d grab Hitler and Mussolini and bring them to justice, saving countless millions of lives. A nice bit of wish fulfillment during World War II.

Maggin was among the first to bring up this theme more than once and was followed in subsequent years by a variety of others, reflecting the different perspectives of the creators and tastes of the audiences.
Just in time for Action Comics’ 775th issue in 2001, Joe Kelly became the latest writer to tackle the concept. After all, the world’s problems — ethnic strife, religious warriors, belligerent regimes, and destruction of the eco-system – could...

In the pantheon of heroes, Superman is considered by most to be the greatest hero of all. His powers make him one of if not the most powerful individual in the universe. Above all else is his strict adherence to his high moral code. Superman’s values outshine his abilities in most cases. This is exactly what “Superman Vs. The Elite” is about. The movie is based on Action Comics #775 by writer Joe Kelly and artists Doug Mahnke and Lee Bermejo. The comic like the movie focuses on Superman’s effectiveness as a super hero when a new group of super powerful crusaders, known as “The Elite,” appear on the scene. As super heroes, the Elite know no bounds, and are more than willing to kill, even on a massive scale, to stop villainy — putting them on a collision course with the ever-ethical and decidedly non-lethal...

Check out a new clip and some new images from D.C. and Warner Bros.’ “Superman vs. The Elite”, the latest in their line of original animated movies based on D.C.’s characters. Basically, it’s the Batman/Superman original movie line for all the variety they offer. I wish they would do some other characters, but I guess Bats and Supes sells. In Superman Vs. George Newbern makes his triumphant return as the voice of the Man of Steel in Superman Vs. The Elite, the latest DC Comics Premiere Movie coming June 12 from Warner Home Video.

He last reprised the character’s voice for the DC Showcase original animated short, Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam.
Newbern is a constant on primetime television, appearing on current hit series like NCIS, The Mentalist, Castle and Grey’s Anatomy, to name a but a few. He’s widely recognized for his starring turn opposite Steve Martin in Father of the Bride, and for the NBC series Providence. Yup, lots of new images today. A good thing, too, because there isn’t a whole lot of decent movie news to post these last few days post-Memorial Day. Anyhoo. Here are some new looks at D.C. and Warner’s upcoming “Superman vs. The Elite” original animated movie. In Superman Vs. DC Comics Premiere and Warner Home Video have released three new short clips featuring members of The Elite in action, plus new images from the upcoming original animated movie. Check them out below, check them outers. It’s funny, the Elite looked way more powerful in the comics. Almost Godlike in their abilities. Here, though, they sort of look somewhat average, even generic. In Superman Vs. We know the next DC Universe Animated title is going to be Superman Vs. The Elite based on Joe Kelly’s “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way?” but judging by Kevin Conroy’s little reveal (around about the 05:20 mark of the video below) we have a Flashpoint animated feature on the cards as well.
Flashpoint, for those that don’t know was big event that had The Flash noticing the unexplainable changes going on in and around the DC Universe which led up to the big DC 52 reboot universe that we currently reside in. So what does this mean for the future of DC’s animation line. Are you only going to be seeing post DC 52 stories from here on in? Does that mean no Killing Joke adaptation? What does this mean for the status of the much rumoured Dark Knight Returns animated feature?...
