All Dolled Up (2011)
** (out of 4)
Well-meaning but not all together documentary about men who love "love dolls." If you've seen LARS AND THE REAL GIRL then you probably will know what these love dolls are. They're basically dolls that are made to look and feel like a real woman. Director- star David Hockey takes us on a journey where we meet several men who have relations with these dolls and we find out why as well as how they are made.
ALL DOLLED UP is a slightly entertaining documentary that manages to have a couple nice bits of information but there are still some problems with it. The biggest problem is the rather sarcastic tone it has early on as if the director is embarrassed by what he's doing. This sarcastic or comical tone doesn't mix well when we get to the interviews where we have some corny music playing, which really doesn't help.
With that said, for the most part the film has some entertaining and interesting moments including showing how the dolls are made as well as how some of them have to have surgery to repair certain injuries that I will let you use your imagination on. If you're interested in the subject then the film is worth watching, although there were certainly ways to improve it.
