With Scott Snyder’s highly anticipated Batman: Zero Year just around the corner and Man of Steel hitting the box-office this month, I felt that it was a perfect time to delve into some of the best re-vamped origin stories in comic books. While many may fall flat (looking at you Marvel: Season Ones) some have overshadowed their golden-age predecessors to become classics that have helped elevated the comic medium to new heights. The following stories are listed in no particular order, but are merely recommendations to help you with your reading needs:
Daredevil: The Man Without Fear
Writer: Frank Miller
Art: John Romita Jr.
Publisher: Marvel Comics
After changing the comic landscape with Batman: Year One, Miller sought to replicate the magic, this time over at Marvel with the character that made him famous: Daredevil. Teaming up with John Romita Jr., Daredevil: The Man Without Fear is...

The brilliant scientist Maya Hansen was first introduced in 2005, in the pages of Iron Man: Extremis by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov. In that landmark story, Hansen co-created the titular biotechnology that could change humanity forever, granting its users accelerated healing, enhanced speed and intelligence, and impossible strength. Hansen's ambitions track fairly closely with the plot of "Iron Man 3," which stars Rebecca Hall as the troubled scientist. We had a chance to speak with Hall about her character's motivations in the new Marvel Studios film, which the actress praises highly for its adult depiction of strong and smart women who're defined by their abilities rather than their romantic relationships with its male hero. Warning: Mild spoilers ahead Moviefone: A lot of "Iron Man 3" is taken from the "Extremis" story by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov. Did you read that or any other comics in preparation for the role of Maya Hanson?...

Following the commercial success of DC’s New 52 line-wide reboot of their titles, Marvel also relaunched their comics with Marvel Now! This is the first volume of the newly rebooted Iron Man series, Believe, written by Kieran Gillen and drawn by Greg Land and, like the New 52, Marvel Now! isn’t really a reboot. It’s also a pretty weak first volume considering Iron Man is one of their biggest characters.
The first issue opens with Maya Hansen on the run who sends off a message to Tony before dying – Extremis is on the loose. Extremis is a virus that “hacks” the human body, “reprograms” it and, depending on the code, the infected person can wind up with all sorts of superpowers, eg. superspeed, firebreathing, etc. Maya Hansen is the creator of the virus along with Aldrich Killian. Tony puts a stop to Extremis being sold on the black market...

Marvel will start a new shelf of original graphic novels this October with the release of Avengers: Endless Wartime, a 110-page epic by writer Warren Ellis and artist Mark McKone that will represent a number of milestone firsts.
Endless Wartime will be the first Marvel title released simultaneously in North America, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Brazil, Finland and Turkey. The book includes a code for accessing a digital edition via the Marvel Comics app and online in the Marvel Digital Comics Shop. The book’s biggest distinction, however, is the somewhat odd fact that Marvel rarely publishes major original...

Walt Disney & Marvel Studios have just dropped (via Empire) their latest character poster from the upcoming Iron Man 3. It features a slick Guy Pearce looking like a very thirsty clubgoer trying to get inside Goldbar on a Sunday night. Sorry bro, not happening. Especially not with that bleached hair! Hell no! I would so dead him at the door!
Just kidding. It features Pearce as baddie Aldrich Killian who in the film works alongside hottie Rebecca Hall’s fellow nerd Maya Hansen as they harness the power of nanotechnology. It’s a plot thread inspired by Warren Ellis’ immensely influential Iron Man: Extremis arc which we first broke in case you haven’t noticed. Peep the poster below.
Iron Man 3 drops on May 3rd.
Synopsis for the film for those not in the know:

Behold the slick visage of super-scientist Aldrich Killian, as played by Guy Pearce in Iron Man 3. This is not the kind of bespoke tailoring and peroxide highlights you'd find on, say, James Dyson. No, Pearce, fresh from catapulting the human race into hammerpede-y hell in Prometheus, is playing another svelte but ethically challenged boffin whose pioneering research could - could - be more likely to endanger us all than win him an OBE. Shane Black's Marvel movie sees Killian working alongside Rebecca Hall's fellow brainaic Maya Hansen to harness the power of nanotechnology. It's a plot thread inspired by Warren Ellis' immensely influentual Iron Man: Extremis arc. Those familiar with that six-issue run of the comic-book won't be shocked to discover this sentence featuring the words "dangerously powerful new tech", "falling into" and "the wrong hands".Judging by the trailers to date, Robert Downey Jr.'s...

Two thousand and twelve is over and it's on to the new year and while I'm busy preparing a list of 50 films I'm anticipating in 2013, I got to thinking it might be fun to also prepare a list of books, articles, plays, graphic novels, comics and more for you to read to prepare for the year's new films and I've come up with a total of 35 of them (give or take, considering some are based on comic book series and/or characters from novels). Today I am introducing Part One of the list, which includes the comic books, graphic novels, news articles and plays that were adapted into films while tomorrow I will feature over 25 books that were adapted into movies that will be hitting theaters this year. I have written a few words on each as well as links to purchase all of the titles available as well as...

I don’t know why they call today Black Friday. It sounds like a superhero version of Gulliver’s Travels, as published by DC or Marvel in the 1970s. And that might be the quickest digression we’ve had on ComicMix to date.

Invincible Iron Man: Extremis is to be reissued in the UK to capitalise on the pre-release hype of the Iron Man 3 movie. Marvel UK and Panini are releasing an 'Enhanced Edition' of the six-issue miniseries, on which Shane Black's upcoming cinematic sequel will be based. 'Extremis', written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Adi Granov, reinvented the character for the 21st century and offered a more technology-based subject matter. Iron Man 3 sees Robert Downey (more)...

Iron Man 3 may land Guy Pearce in Robert Downey Jr. starrer helmed by Shane Black. The actor who can be seen next in Ridley Scott's sci-fi action flick Prometheus, is currently in talks to join Marvel Studios and Disney's eagerly-anticipated Iron Man 3, playing geneticist Aldrich Killian. The Shane Black-directed film has set Ben Kingsley to play the villain, bringing back leads Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man), Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as Lt. Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, a role she be seen in shortly in Joss Whedon's upcoming The Avengers flick.
