Placing
The horses race across the finish line and when they are past, the crowds emerge from the stands and run onto the track. You may think you've seen this before, because you're a fancier of old movies, but this one was done by Birt Acres.
Wasn't he Robert Paul's associate, you (and I, a couple of minutes ago) ask vaguely? Yes indeed, and for a year or two after Acre had devised and patented the first 35 mm. motion picture camera in Britain, he and Paul and a few buddies went around shooting the same scenes. Then Paul went into movie and catalogue production and Acre went into... well, it's hard to tell with a couple of minutes' research, He patented a few more camera inventions through 1898, produced one film in 1900, and died in 1918, aged 62.
