With the 4th episode of "Am I Being Unreasonable?", the ridiculously talented pair of writers (& co-creators of this series) Selin Hizli & Daisy May-Cooper work together in order to completely pull the rug out from under the audience's feet & subvert expectations all over again, applying context to the narrative which adds layer upon layer upon layer until finally, we're (presumably?) starting to see the bigger picture.
However, the drama is crafted in such a clever way, one can never be too sure as to how certain the direction of the season is heading (which prevents it from becoming predictable) when every 30 minutes, the story continually finds new, quirky ways to essentially reinvent the wheel we've already grown accustomed to. As a consequence, the tale that's being told is thoroughly engaging because each & every second forces us to pay close attention to what's happening, if we're to stand any chance of keeping up with the intricacies we never even knew were imbued subliminally, before.
I say this with all seriousness but I haven't seen such fiercely intelligent writing (that's complicated & interwoven, yet disciplined & understandable without becoming convoluted) in a BBC original since the early days of Sherlock.
All of this is additionally captured masterfully by the outstanding director Jonny Campbell (ironically, having last worked with Steven Moffat & Mark Gatiss on their adaptation of "Dracula"), who works tirelessly with his usual DoP Tony Slater-Ling to reflect the quality of the scripts with the remarkably strong visual filmmaking, that's edited & timed to perfection by Helena Evans.
I cannot sing this production's praises highly enough. An utter triumph.
