"Gurukulam" follows a group of students and their teacher, influential monk Swami Dayanada Saraswati, as they explore the Indian wisdom tradition of non-duality while staying in a secluded forest ashram in southern India. HIs teachings focus on the philosophical teachings of Advaita Vendata, the ancient teachings behind yoga's concept of oneness. Through this traditional teaching of Vedanta, Dayanada seeks to teach the group how to turn ancient wisdom into a living experience they can carry with them. At 84 years old, this teaching experience might be one of Swami's last long-term courses. The film will screen at the Rubin Museum of Art in NYC from August 22-24.
