Only a bit of footage without audio has been found of this test animation so far. The footage was uploaded in a demo reel video on YouTube and another on Vimeo by an animator who did pre-production work on the first Shrek film by the name of Loren Soman. He uploaded the demo in 2010 and was not socially discovered until 12 years later.
On November 24, 2023, 3d animation artist Barry E. Jackson uploaded the full animation on his YouTube channel with original audio, but it was sort of corrupted. Barry claims that the animation test was "kind of" his production design and that after the test was presented to Jeffrey Katzenberg, Barry got fired from DreamWorks.
During the hunt of this animation test, a majority of people who worked on the pre-production of Shrek have been reached out to by a few people from a Discord group dedicated to the Shrek test. Curtis Augspurger, Chris Bailey, Michele Barbera, Anders J.L. Beer, Corey Comstock, Luc Desmarchelier, Crystal Foth, Bart Gawboy, Carlos Grangel, Jared Hamaguchi, Jay Heit, Ruben Hickman, Barry E. Jackson, Sandra M. Kraft, Kenneth A. Larson, Brian Master, Fong Nickson, Matthew O'Callaghan, John Rocco, Mark Solomon, Bryan Taylor, Brian Drucker and Randy Simper were known to have been reached out to; none of them had the animation test but had shed some highlight on the story on Shrek's development in the 1990's.
