Liverpool representatives are due to meet with Luis Suarez’s lawyer in Barcelona today, reports The Guardian.
Interestingly, Suarez’s agent will also be in attendance, leading to speculation that the controversial player’s future could be away from England.
The choice of location is obviously a red flag for Liverpool supporters with constant speculation that the Nou Camp could offer an escape route from the Premier League after the World Cup. When asked about any potential move to the Catalan club, Suarez’s lawyer Alejandor Balbi told Cadena Copa; “Tomorrow we will talk with Pere Guardiola”.
It had been thought the meeting was just a legal arrangement to discuss Suarez and Liverpool’s options in regards to his four month biting suspension. However, with the comments from Balbi, and indeed Guardiola’s presence at what is meant to be a legal discussion, this...

Rarely has a summer transfer window been so important for a club, but the task facing Barcelona in the following months certainly falls into that bracket. The La Liga champions were handed a 14-month transfer ban in April by FIFA, for breaking rules on signing international players under the age of 18.
Barcelona contested the decision and consequently the ban has been suspended till January, pending an appeal. It means the club has the forthcoming summer transfer window to strengthen their squad, before being banned from activity in the next two.
Captain Carles Puyol has already announced that he will be departing, as has goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Add to that the fact that Dani Alves, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano will all be over 30-years-old come July, and it is clear that investment is needed.

Manchester United have sensationally joined the race to sign Real Madrid’s German international midfielder Mesut Ozil, according to Sky Sources.
Arsenal were widely reported earlier on transfer deadline day to have made a club record bid of around £42.5 million for Ozil, which had been accepted by the Spanish giants. The Gunners were said to be in advanced talks to sign Ozil following Gareth Bale’s world record move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid was completed last night.
The twist in the tale according to Sky Sports News is that David Moyes, who has been rebuffed in his attempts to sign an attacking midfielder replacement for the retired Paul Scholes after every corner (multiple bids made for Barca’s Cesc Fabregas and Everton’s Mathieu Flamini all turned down, Thiago himself looked close to join Old Trafford before being lured to Bayern Munich by his old boss Pep Guardiola...

As the dust settles in the aftermath of the bombshell that was Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, new gaffer David Moyes has found the transfer market tough going ahead of the new season.
At the Scot’s first press conference since taking the reins at the Theatre of Dreams, Moyes claimed to be hopeful of adding a recruit or two, before heading off on the pre-season tour of Asia and Australia.
To date United have made no headway, other than the signing of the young Uruguayan full back Guillermo Varela from Penarol on a five-year deal.
Moyes has it all to prove in the transfer market, can he work on an ample budget; be-littleing the shoestring budget he had at former club Everton.
Another challenge, one that even Ferguson found difficult; is can the 50 year-old entice the top talents to join United? Sadly, the chance to compete at one of...

You Cesc’y Thing: Squad Player or First-Team Regular?
New Manchester United manager David Moyes looks set to shake things up in the engine-room of the Manchester United team.
After the bitter disappointment the United faithful endured during the Thiago Alcantara transfer saga, with the young, bargain-buy Spaniard instead opting to join Pep Guardiola at Bayern instead; United fans would surely view Fabregas as a very, very tasty alternative.
The Red Devils reportedly made an opening-bid of around £26 million yesterday, to test the resolve of the Catalan giants. It is however thought, that a bid of around £35 million would tempt Barca in to parting ways with the 26 year-old for a second time.
It is rumoured that the former Arsenal man wants to stay at his boyhood heroes but is willing to return to the Premier League, should Barcelona accept a bid.
A clause in Fabregas’ contract gives Arsenal first refusal on the former Skipper,...

European Champions Bayern Munich, have announced the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona, according to Sky Sports.
A fee of £21.6 million has been agreed between the two clubs for the transfer of the Spaniard and he will sign a four-year-deal, subject to a medical.
The 22-year-old has been on the lips of everyone in the football world this summer. The midfielder scored a perfect hat-trick against Italy in the final of the under-21 European Championships, to lead Spain to their 4th title and his 2nd. The Spanish international scored three goals in 36 games for Barca last season as they dominated the Spanish league but now he follows his old mentor Pep Guardiola to Germany.
The new Spaniard coach has already added playmaker Mario Gotze to his side from Borussia Dortmund as he continues to build on the team left by Jupp Heynckes.

Manchester United have been dealt a crushing blow in their pursuits of Thiago Alcantara with news that the Barcelona midfielder is set to join Bayern Munich instead, according to the Daily Mail.
It was thought United were close to signing the 22-year-old after the player decided his hopes in securing a place in next summer’s World Cup were better served away from the Nou Camp.
However, news from his homeland suggests he is about to sign for the Champions League winners and reunite with former manager Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola, who led Barca to three La Liga crowns and two Champions League trophies, said earlier this week:
“People have to know that Barca players are not leaving for money or desire. There are two possibilities: they dump you or you feel like you should be playing and Barcelona do not”
Bayern are reportedly prepared to accommodate Thiago in their midfield...

It may well be something of a cliché, but in this case the old adage rings true. Football moves in cycles.
Following Bayern Munich’s terrifying dismantling of a Barcelona side often vaunted as the world’s best ever club side in the Champions League semi-final and subsequent victory in the final against domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund every man and his dog have been falling over themselves in an effort to become the first to proclaim the demise of Barca and announce the dawning of a new age, the Bayern age.
Bayern’s soon to be departed coach Jupp Heynckes seems to have struck upon the notion that, yes, often diminutive playmakers are experts at implementing a tiki-taka passing style to great effect, but in many cases bigger, more powerful players can be just as, if not more effective playing a passing game complete with a physical advantage.

When we cast our eyes back to the beginning of the 2012/13 season most can recall putting Bayern Munich and Barcelona in their first few picks for Champions League success. These two European powerhouses had earn’t the right to be spoken of in such esteem. Their prowess both domestically and in European competition over the past decade speaks for itself. Barcelona has been led by the wizardry of Lionel Messi and the craftsmanship of both Iniesta and Hernandez, culminating in numerous domestic titles and cup victories along with success twice on Europe’s elite stage. Munich have class scattered all over the park.
Led beautifully by Bastian Schwiensteiger and with the polish of Ribery and Robben, the Bavarian giants have fallen at the last hurdle in two of the last four finals but this season have asserted a dominance rarely seen in Europe. Joining them in European elite have been their noisy neighbours from Dortmund.

#100. Paul Greengrass’ Barca
Gist: Known for his unsettling realism (Bloody Sunday, United 93 (out of comp – Cannes 2006) and a shaky camera aesthetic in blockbuster form (Bourne Ultimatum), having not touched the docu form in a very long time, this Greengrass side project is a portrait of football club Fc Barcelona (‘Barça’), focusing specifically on a journey that led the franchise to win every major event during a four-year period.
Prediction: Out of Competition. At last year’s Cannes Film Festival it was announced that the project was in pre-production, that Film Nation were selling the rights and we haven’t heard of peep about Barca since – so this effectively makes this our hail mary prediction out of our top 100. At that exact time that the above mentioned trade bit was announced, Greengrass began lensing on Captain Phillips which is currently listed as in post-production and will be released in October.

A Brazilian wonderkid – a rare player every football fan secretly wishes their team had. They may not be known for their reliability or work-rate but their creative genius and ability on the ball is world-renowned. Maybe it’s the single name (Neymar, Ronaldo, Pele etc.) but there’s always been something more enthralling and exciting about a Brazilian; something the effort or enthusiasm of a Grant Holt or Scott Parker can never quite make up for.
The worldwide appeal and wealth of the Champions League has proved vital in drawing the major South American stars to Europe. It hasn’t always been this way. The legendary Pele spent most of his career playing for Santos, while Zico – one of the best players of the late seventies and early eighties – transformed Flamengo into one of the best sides in the world, even destroying Liverpool 3-0 in the Intercontinental Cup in 1981.

Barcelona are targetting Arsenal centre-half Laurent Koscielny in a surprise move to cure their defensive crisis, according to reports in France.
New Barca boss Tito Vilanova is determined to cure last season’s lack of numbers in defence which saw former boss Pep Guardiola forced to use Javier Mascherano and Sergio Busquets as emergency defenders. Most critics of Barcelona last season believe the lack of defensive options probably cost them the La Liga title and Champions League trophy last season, especially factoring in Gerard Pique’s injury problems and Carles Puyol’s age.
We had heard a few days ago that Barca were looking at Chelsea duo Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz but as they are on a limited budget may be priced out of moves for either man. They also looked at AC Milan star Thiago Silva (who looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a big money move...
