Sundance Now has picked up Domino Day, the BBC YA drama about a young witch with extraordinary powers in modern-day England.
Following its UK launch on BBC Three earlier this year and a strong critical showing, Domino Day will premiere in the U.S. this summer on Sundance Now and AMC+.
Set and filmed in Manchester, UK, the supernatural six-parter stars the BAFTA–nominated Siena Kelly (Adult Material, Hit & Run) as Domino Day, a young woman on all the dating apps. A young witch with extraordinary powers, Domino is desperately seeking a community who can help her understand who she is, but she doesn’t need to look far as a coven of witches is already tracking her every move, convinced they have to stop her before her powers destroy everyone and everything around her.

Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale is a fun little mystery show about a town where witches can live amongst human beings in harmony. The show basically presents witches as the outcast group that is mistreated and blamed whenever something goes wrong. The town of Sanctuary goes from living in harmony with witches to blaming the only witch living there when something awful happens. Throughout the show, Harper Fenn, Sarah’s (the only witch in town’s) daughter, never shows any sign of being a witch. Though disappointed, her mother thinks it’s a good thing since she couldn’t be blamed for killing the boy who assaulted her. At the end of episode 6, both mom and daughter are caught by the police and taken into custody after a police officer’s son dies from a mysterious virus. Let’s find out what really happened to the boy, and will the two women escape?...

The Sundance Now original Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale is a story set in the modern day where witches live amongst ordinary people. Sarah and her daughter Harper live in a town called “Sanctuary,” where for years now, witches have been helping the ordinary in whatever way possible, with some rules in place. Sarah has a coven of four friends from the town, and she has occasionally bent the rules for them. She’s always thought of them as her dear friends and never imagined it would be problematic for her in the future. However, after a tragic incident takes place and one of her friends loses her son, she starts to blame Sarah and her daughter for his death. Things were already terrible for Sarah, but in episode 6, we really get to see the things she did come back to bite her even though she did them out of the kindness of her heart.

Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale has been building buzz since it premiered on AMC+ and Sundance in early January.
As we approach the final episodes of Santctuary's first season, fans are brimming with curiosity about what the future holds for the remarkably relatable coven at the center of this unique show.
The series' blend of fantasy and realism is a risk that's paid dividends, bringing a bracingly human element to a story in which ancient magic collides head-on with the modern world.
We had the chance to speak with three of the stars who have assisted showrunner Debbie Horsfield in pulling off the impressive balancing act (you might even call it a magic trick) that is Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale.
Check out our conversation with Amy De Bruhn, Stephanie Levi-John, and Hazel Doupe, followed by an exclusive clip from this week's all-new episode.

Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale brings modern-day problems to old-school witch shows. The show revolves around a witch and her daughter in a small town called Sanctuary. It looks like it came straight from the late 2000s and fell on our lap one day just when we were craving something thrilling and dramatic. In the third episode of the mystery thriller, we learned that Harper, Sarah’s daughter, was sexually assaulted by Dan. Of course, Dan’s mother can’t imagine her son would do such a thing, so she’s desperate to turn their friends against Sarah. The friends manage to convince Abi that it wasn’t Sarah and Harper who killed Dan; it was simply an accident. However, at the end of the episode, Harper goes to the press about being sexually assaulted by Dan, contradicting her mother’s wishes. This is Harper’s way of taking matters into her own hands,...

It isn’t just you. We’re two weeks into the new year and every show on TV has become a murder mystery.
There are reality murder mysteries (Traitors) and animated murder mysteries (Grimsburg) and British murder mysteries (Criminal Record) and occult murder mysteries (Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale). There are murder mysteries without daylight (True Detective: Night Country) and adapted recent murder mysteries (Fool Me Once) and adapted characters in original murder mysteries (Monsieur Spade).
Those are just January premieres. So far. There’ll be at least one more new murder mystery before the end of the week (The Woman in the Wall).
It’s easy to point to the blockbuster success of the two Knives Out movies and the steady success of the Kenneth Branagh/Michael Green-steered Hercule Poirot movies as a business-driven cause.
Sociologically, it’s easy to point to a decade of distrust of institutional policing...

Last week we got the first two episodes of Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, a British fantasy-mystery-thriller set in a world where witchcraft is a registered occupation. The town of Sanctuary is a place that witches have been calling their safe haven for years; however, things are about to get nasty after a young boy falls to his death at a party in an abandoned warehouse. In the first two episodes, we learn that Sarah is the only registered witch in Sanctuary, and her daughter Harper isn’t like her mother. However, with the news of Dan the hunk’s death, everyone has been blaming Harper. A boy named Jacob, who was clearly in love with Dan, believes he has evidence against Harper, proving that she used witchcraft against Dan. Could Harper have killed Dan? What was Dan really like? Let’s find out in episode 3 of Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale.

My first impression of Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale was that this might be a low-budget British version of Big Little Lies, only with the inclusion of witches, but I was very wrong. This show will transport you back to the early 2000s with the way it’s made, the styling, and the way some of the themes of the show are addressed. In this world, “Sanctuary” is a safe haven for witches, who can live as registered individuals freely and safely. The show begins with an incident that takes place six years ago, where somebody got seriously wounded before Sarah, the resident witch, made a cut on her hand to cast a spell and save that person. We don’t see who this is, but by the end of the first two episodes of Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, we will learn who it was and what happened to them eventually.

While its title and its availability on AMC+ (in addition to Sundance Now) might suggest otherwise, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale is less akin to Interview With the Vampire or Mayfair Witches than to crime dramas like Big Little Lies or Mare of Easttown — albeit with less prestige gloss and more janky CG. Though that comparison doesn’t feel quite right, either.
What’s most memorable about the series is neither its supernatural elements, which are only vaguely explained, nor even really its central murder mystery. It’s the clear and unsparing portrait of its villain, a woman who weaponizes her genuine grief over the death of her son into a literal witch hunt, with shocking and horrifying results.
Upon first glance, Sanctuary looks every inch the Edenic retreat suggested by its name, a cluster of picturesque homes nestled amid rolling green hills. During a picnic for new neighbors, Sarah (Elaine Cassidy...

Midseason is the new fall.
As Hollywood and the broader industry continue to recover from the debilitating dual actors and writers strikes, the 2024 television landscape is coming into focus. All of the broadcast networks have set return dates for most of their shows, with the postponed Emmy Awards now set for January 15 and no usual Premiere Week to speak of.
But as series return to production with lower episode counts this truncated season, here again is Deadline’s annual list of premiere dates for new and returning TV series.
The roster covers hundreds of broadcast, cable and streaming programs debuting through 2024, with many listed as Tba as the year kicks off. It includes series and season debuts, shows returning from hiatus and some one-offs such as live sports and awards specials but not movies. The list includes shows that are in limbo for now but are likely to get premiere dates in the coming months.
