- A scheming professor steals ground-breaking work from one of his grad students and palms it off as his own.
- The crew go after a crooked college professor who stole the research from one of his students--Breanna's friend--and now claims that it's his. When the college chooses not to pursue charges against him to keep the money rolling in, the crew has to find a way to convince the professor to resign so he can keep all the profits for himself.—Gislef
- Professor Daniel Gray is giving a lecture to his class when Emma Camore comes in. She nervously accuses Gray of stealing her research, and he challenges her to prove it by walking the class through it. Emma comes apart under the pressure and can't, and Gray dismisses her and her accusations. The girl nervously runs out and Gray goes back to his lecture.
Later, Sophie and Breanna meet with Emma on campus, and Emma explains that Gray stole her math that could be used to develop cold fusion in the future. Gray took her formula and kicked her out of his class and then his, and if Emma accused him of then it would be her word against his, and he has a reputation as a leading scientist. Emma suffers from anxiety disorder, and Gray already filed a complaint against her saying she had one of her mental episodes. When Emma initially showed her faculty advisor Gray her work, he dismissed it as banal but then someone broke into her house a few days level and stole it. Sophie assures Emma that she believes her, and that Emma's friend Breanna believes in Emma. Emma can't finish her PhD or get a research job, and without it she can't teach and has no future.
At the bar, Breanna briefs the crew on Gray. Gray is on the news supporting climate deniers and corporate polluters, and anyone who pay him the highest fee. Harry did his undergraduate work at the university, but Breanna disagrees, saying that colleges are a scam. He figures he can get Emma a hearing with the university's judiciary committee, but Eliot warns that it will take forever. Harry warns that they can't get evidence against Gray illegally, but agrees to Breanna's suggestion that they get Emma's stolen hard drive from Gray's office. Sophie proposes that Harry goes the official route, while Parker and Breanna break into Gray's office.
Harry goes to an alumni get-together and talks to Dean Denzinger, who sends someone to Gray's lab to get him and bring him over to talk to Harry. The one guard, Floyd, that Eliot has to take out says that he lost his son in the Gulf War, and Eliot refuses to take him out. Sophie tells Harry to keep Gray distracted. Harry engages Gray in talk about magnets, while Breanna and Parker go into Gray's lab.
At the alumni meeting, Harry brings up Emma going into Gray's lecture, and suggests there should be a judiciary hearing about her accusation. Gray walks off and tells Denzinger that he doesn't want to talk to Harry again. Harry tells Sophie via the comms, and she tells Parker and Breanna that Gray is on his way back. They find the hard drive and Emma's notebooks, and hear Gray coming. Parker manages to hide and Breanna doesn't, while putting back the stolen material, and when Gray comes in he assumes Breanna is a member of the custodial staff. She says that she isn't, and she came there to ask for a position in his program. Breanna turns on the flattery and Gray tests her with a trick question. She recognizes it and points it out, and Gray tells her to come back after the weekend and he'll see what he can do for her.
Later back at the bar, Breanna download the information from the hard drive that she put on her phone, and discovers that Gray plan to sell it to Kiesco Corporation. Kiesco is big oil, and they plan to buy the patent it and hold it so it's never released to undermine them. Sophie puts Eliot on Gray while the rest of the go after Kiesco.
Eliot poses as a handyman and "accidentally" knocks Gray in a supply closet, while Breanna it's the Kiesco executive, Jeff Leland, coming to a meeting with Gray and stalls him temporarily. Meanwhile, Floyd comes by and hears Gray pounding on the door,
Breanna joins Harry and Emma, who are preparing to meet with Denzinger and request a meeting with the committee. Emma asks Harry to do it without him, and Breanna says that she'll stay with Emma while Harry does it on his own. Harry reluctantly agrees and goes in.
Floyd is less than sympathetic about Gray's plight. Meanwhile, Sophie, posing as a professor, intercepts Leland and says that Gray is stuck with something and she'll take over for him. She shoves Leland into a chair and fastens monitor pads to his forehead, and says the equipment determines when his morality is compromised. Sophie shocks him when he lies.
Eliot is ready to let Gray out, and Floyd suggests they let him stew in the supply closet a little longer. Despite that, Eliot lets Gray out and Gray rails at him for a bit before walking off. Floyd assures Eliot that they've got his back.
Leland finally unfastens himself from Sophie's equipment, and says that he can't lie anymore. He brushes past Gray as he comes in, saying he can't collect blood money anymore. Meanwhile, Floyd takes Eliot to the grand meeting of college janitors, grounds men, and security guards, who are discussing whose professors whose trash they won't clear. They all look out for each other, and Floyd introduces Eliot to the others.
Harry fails to make his case because Emma isn't there, and Denzinger admits to Harry that they won't do anything against Gray because he brings in too much money. Harry talks to the waiting Breanna and Emma, and Sophie when she joins them, and explains what happened. Emma runs off in as panic, and Sophie says that they have to get Gray to take himself down. Parker appears out of nowhere and Harry tells her that they need all the crime.
Back at the bar, Sophie figures they can lure Gray away from the university by luring him away with a massive payday. They'll convince him That Emma stole it from somebody else, and he's underselling it.
Breanna finds Emma siting beneath a tree on campus, and tells her that they can take down Gray but they'll need Emma's help. Later, Breanna meets with Gray and show him her fake recommendations. She says that she has the same dissertation as Gray's paper, and hints that she got her work from Emma, who stole it from another professor, Dr. Diana Williams.
Back in his office, Gray looks up Williams, who is Sophie with a fake name that Breanna set up. Meanwhile, Eliot goes into the library as a janitor and plants a fake books Sophie "wrote" so that Gray can find it. With Floyd's help, Harry and Eliot set up a fake office for Sophie in a supply closet, and Floyd is glad to help when Eliot tells him that it's to get Gray. Later, Gray comes by and sneaks in. Sophie comes in and tells Gray that he's a thief like all the others.
Outside, Breanna gives Emma an earbud and tells her to talk Sophie through pretending she's a physics professor. Emma is leery, but Breanna tells her to think of them as characters on TV. With Emma's help, Sophie bluffs her way through convince Gray she has the proper knowledge, and says all of her research is in her one journal. Sophie tells Gray that the second half of her work is worth a hundred times as much as what he originally stole, and Gray says that it was parallel development and he knows she's right, and is willing to fight for her. Sophie tells Gray that she already has an interested buyer, and refuses to let Gray see her research. Outside, Breanna tells Emma that all they need now is an eccentric tech billionaire.
Sophie takes Gray to a fake company the crew has set up. Parker poses as the assistant for Hardison, who calls in via video from the satellite where he's working. Gray lets Sophie do the talking when Hardison asks how the work helps him, He goes on about the benefits of cold fusion, and Hardison points out that Gray is affiliated with the university so they own half the patents. Gray offers to resign, and Hardison finally "agrees" to the deal while Sophie turns on the seductive charm with Gray.
Later at the bar, Sophie waits for the call from Gray saying that he's resigned. Breanna has a social media campaigned to announce that Gray is a plagiarist. Gray calls Sophie and tells her that he found another buyer, Daniel Nash, a billionaire tech who is currently at the university meeting with Denziger. Gray tells Sophie that he doesn't need her because he doesn't need to explain the math to Nash, and Nash doesn't care. When Gray hangs up, Sophie and Breanna figure they need Emma in the same room as Nash to explain the math. Harry wonders if Emma will be able to talk to Nash, and Sophie says that they'll deal with the plan one step at a time.
Breanna finds Emma and tells her that they need her to explain the math to Nash. Emma says that she can't, and Breanna assures her friend that she can, and leads her off.
As Nash, Denziger, and Gray tour the campus, Harry approaches Denziger privately and tells the dean that he's making a mistake. Denziger warns Harry that he's messing with the university's future, while Gray spots Sophie in the building and Breanna and Emma sneak up. Nash wonders how Gray came up with the idea for his research, and Gray tries to bluff his way through his ignorance while Eliot drives up in a cart still posing as a janitor. Gray figures that Harry, Sophie, and Eliot are working together to steal "his" research, and starts to panic. He suggests they take the discussion up to his office, and the crew meets. Sophie figures they need a distraction, and Eliot has an idea on how to get past Nash's guards and makes a call on his walkie.
In Gray's lab, he hands out his research to Nash and hears a banging in the next room. He goes to investigate and finds Eliot bumping the furniture with a floor cleaner. Gray tells Eliot that he won't get away with stealing his research, goes back to the others, and tells Nash and Denziger that they'll find another room. All the rooms on the floor are locked, and the janitors and guards that Eliot has befriended direct Gray and the others to an elevator.
Breanna cuts Gray off, asking for help editing her research, and he sees Emma and Sophie down the hall and runs after them, while Nash and Denziger get in the elevator. Sophie sprays Gray with a fire extinguisher and he runs off, and Breanna uses her phone to override the elevator controls and open the doors and stops the car so Emma can drop down and enter the car through the roof hatch. Parker gets Emma into the car and drops a market to her, so Emma can draw her formula on the elevator walls, for Nash, to prove Gray stole the theorem from her.
Gray gets to the next floor and hits the button, and finds Harry there. Sophie and Breanna arrive there as the doors open, revealing Emma completing the theorem for Nash. Nash is impressed by Emma's work. When Gray accuses Emma of being a liar, Emma tells Denziger that people like him only listen to people like Gray. Nash says that he won't invest in a university that backs a plagiarist. Denziger hastily agrees and Harry presents the evidence they got from Gray's office, thanks to Parker dropping in through the hatch. Emma hugs Breanna and thanks her, and then goes off with Nash. Denziger goes off with Harry to discuss the meeting Harry requested earlier. When Gray pleads with the dean, Denziger tells him to start clearing his office. Eliot arrives with "his" campus security, and Floyd takes Gray's security badge.
Gray walks off, and Floyd talks privately to Eliot. Floyd gives Eliot his Gold Star badge in honor of his son, and tells him that he isn't done fixing things. The two men shake and hug, and go to get a beer.
Breanna and Sophie walk through the campus, and Sophie says that Breanna fits in better than she thought she would. The younger woman admits that she kinda liked it there, and Sophie tells Breanna that the path she's on with the team doesn't have to be forever. Breanna admits that she might take a class or two.
