With a title like Life After Fighting, you might think this is a documentary about the lives of boxers and Mma competitors once they’ve left the ring for the last time. Instead, it’s a somewhat misnamed action film about Alex Faulkner a former competitive fighter who now runs a dojo. But we know he’s not done with fighting, or rather it’s not done with him, otherwise this would be a damn short movie.
Much of the film’s first half-hour revolves around Alex and his budding romance with Samantha who he meets when she brings her son Terry (Anthony Nassif) in for classes. It also leads to the film’s first fight when her possessive ex, Victor sics his massive buddy Milan on him.

If you have a thing for old-fashioned action movies, mainly the ones where a single good guy takes on the entire bad world, Life After Fighting must have been a lot of fun for you. Australian actor and martial artist Bren Foster’s directorial debut (where he also stars in the lead role) is far from a perfect action movie. It is a bit too long, and the editing is weak; in fact, there’s a whole subplot the movie could have done away with. But the final hour of it is action-movie lovers’ wet dream, and that’s what counts. Life After Fighting has a straightforward narrative and a very comprehensive ending. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at it, especially the bloodied, action-packed climax, which is clearly the main deal.

Vertical and Bren Foster will launch their new martial arts thriller “Life After Fighting” on June 7 in select theaters and on demand. This marks Foster’s feature debut as writer-director and is his first collaboration with producer Navid Bahadori under their newly formed production and distribution company, Spinning Plates.
According to an official logline, “In ‘Life After Fighting,’ the tranquil existence of Alex Faulkner (Foster), a former martial arts world champion, is shattered when the inexplicable vanishing of two young students from his martial arts school culminates in a shocking revelation that strikes close to his heart. As all avenues of hope seem to dwindle, Faulkner’s determination leads to the rescue of the imprisoned girls, revealing an insidious international child-trafficking ring, which ultimately leads to the fight of his life.”
Other cast members include Luke Ford (“Animal Kingdom”), Cassie Howarth (“NCIS: Sydney”), Anabelle Stephenson (“Tidelands”) and Jake Ryan (“The Great Gatsby...
