Santa Clarans, bow down to your Mayor! On Wednesday, as Beyoncé performed at Levi’s Stadium for her Renaissance World Tour, the singer celebrated being named honorary mayor of Santa Clara.
“Y’all’s faces are so beautiful. You know today’s special because today I am the mayor,” she told the crowd, adding, “This is my gratitude tour. I don’t take any of this for granted. I know after 25 years I’m still able to do what I love, and it’s because of your loyalty and because of your prayers.

It’s easy to find sport-specific lists of movies online. From Bodog’s list of the top 5 legendary basketball films — which puts the gritty and ageless White Men Can’t Jump at its #1 spot, and we couldn’t possibly agree more—To others that also cover films, it’s not rare to get a lowdown on the best or the most popular films in a particular sport.
Then there are also perennial lists for sports on film review websites, like Rotten Tomatoes’ list of 30 essential football films, and overall sports lists like IMDb’s all-time highest-rated sports films that can also include films not primarily sports-based. But what is generally lacking is the list of the best films in a select few sports, ones that are the most popular in the UK. Today, we’re going to make that list for you!

Clark Gregg, the onetime front man for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — sorry, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — had to raise an eyebrow at a perceived slighting of the first contemporary live-action Marvel series.
In post-morteming the underperformance of recent IP-driven films, Disney CEO Bob Iger said this week at the annual Sun Valley Conference, “In our zeal to basically grow our content significantly to serve mostly our streaming offerings, we ended up taxing our people way beyond — in terms of their time and their focus — where they had been.

It's a Taylor Swift summer. Apart from taking over the world with her Eras Tour and latest single "Cruel Summer," Swift has now returned with another rerecorded album: "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)." The record dropped on July 7 - 13 years after Swift released the original version of "Speak Now" in 2010.
In a May 5 Instagram post, the star described "Speak Now" as a project full of "brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions, and wild wistfulness." Notably, it's rumored to include lyrics referencing some of Swift's most famous exes.
"Better Than Revenge," which is speculated to be about Joe Jonas, is considered to be one of her most unfiltered tracks since it's believed to not only allude to the pair's messy breakup but also Jonas's old flame Camilla Belle. So, what's the story behind the song? Let's unpack the rumored meaning behind "Better Than Revenge."

Netflix’s Ted Sarandos Touts the “Power of Korean Storytelling,” Says K-Content Views Are Up Sixfold
Netflix’s co-ceo Ted Sarandos will never forget the day he met director Bong Joon Ho in 2017 to discuss Okja, the sci-fi action drama that became Netflix’s first international film.
“He’s the ultimate master, and he gave me a crash course in Korean cinema. I learned so much,” he said. “And afterwards I had the great privilege to introduce him to Martin Scorsese — one of his heroes. A few years later, director Bong won best director and best picture at the Oscars with Parasite, the same year that Martin Scorsese was nominated. It was amazing to see him go from a fan to a peer.”
On his first visit to Korea since he was named the co-ceo of Netflix, Sarandos elaborated on Netflix’s partnership with Korean creators and the success of K-content abroad.

Kim Da-young build a bridge on ‘Physical 100’
Episode 5 showed the rest of the teams doing the sand quest. Team Jo Jin-hyeong went up against Team Kwak Myung-sik.
Da-young took the lead on building the bridge. “The opposing team was ahead of us, and I felt insecure,” she said. “But anyway, working in the stunt business, I learned a huge lesson about safety. So even if we lose, we shouldn’t get hurt. I worked very thoroughly.”
The other team finished first and started crossing the bridge. But their boards also fell apart behind them. On the other hand, Jin-hyeong’s team could cross without any problems with their bridge.

If you want to win an Oscar for Best Costume Design, it’s best to pick a project for which you can create frilly dresses from a bygone era. Since its introduction at the 1948 Academy Awards, this category has favored period pictures, including the 2021 winner “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Voters love to reward the creative forces behind such films, especially those that are about the aristocracy including recent champs “Marie Antoinette” (2007), “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” (2008), “The Duchess” (2009), “The Young Victoria” (2010), and “Anna Karenina” (2013). (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2023 Oscars Best Costume Design predictions.)
By the way, none of those films even competed for Best Picture. Indeed, only 20 of the most recent 73 Best Picture champs also won this award. Among these was “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2004). Teen drama One Tree Hill had a loyal fanbase, but one person who has no interest in revisiting the show is star Chad Michael Murray, who played main character Lucas Scott on the series, which aired on The WB and The CW between 2003 and 2012.
During a panel at Christmas Con, Chad Michael Murray discussed what has undoubtedly been his biggest success–although he doesn’t necessarily keep it too close to his heart. “It’s a section of my life that I deleted. A lot of development, a lot of growth as a human being, and just deleted so much of it.” Murray tried to break it down as best he could, saying, “I think we have hard drives, right? I’m probably like, you know when you get an iPhone that holds like 264 gigs: I’m down on a 32 gig phone because of old information, so booting everything up....

Exclusive: Emmy and Golden Globe winner Edie Falco has reteamed with her Nurse Jackie director Brendan Walsh on I’ll Be Right There — an indie comedy written by Jim Beggarly (Free Samples), which has wrapped production in New York.
Others set to star in the pic include Oscar nominee Jeannie Berlin (The Fabelmans), Charlie Tahan (Ozark), Independent Spirit Award nominee Kayli Carter (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Michael Rapaport (Only Murders in the Building), Michael Beach (Dahmer), Sepideh Moafi (Black Bird) and Emmy winner Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale).
I’ll Be Right There follows a single mother, Wanda (Falco), who has her hands full to say the least: her eight month pregnant daughter (Carter) wants a wedding, her mother (Berlin) thinks she’s dying, her wayward son (Tahan) is either going into rehab or the army, and she barely has time for herself, not that she would know what to do with it anyway.

Multifaceted Korean film company Acemaker Movieworks will unveil four titles at this year’s Asian Contents & Film Market, which operates alongside the Busan International Film Festival. Action and revenge feature prominently as unifying themes.
The Covid pandemic continues to have a delayed impact on the Korean production and film releasing scenes. Last year’s prolonged theatrical drought meant funds for reinvestment were in short supply and releases postponed. Many of Acemaker’s movies were shot in 2020, but are only now confirming completion and new release dates.
“Remember” is an action drama film starring Lee Sung Min (“The Spy Gone North”) and Nam Joo Hyuk (best known for TV series “Start-Up” and “Twenty-Five Twenty-One”). Directed by Lee Il Hyung (“A Violent Prosecutor”), the story revolves around a retired soldier suffering from dementia, seeking revenge from people he believes caused the death of his family. Carter (2022).There’s a scene in Carter that exemplifies how the film pushes the formal conceit of the “single-take” actioner to new extremes. Amnesiac protagonist Carter Lee (Joo Won), tasked with rescuing the kidnapped daughter (Kim Bo-min) of a renowned virologist (Jung Jae-young), walks with the girl into an alley. Suddenly, a motorcyclist races by, snatching her up. Another rider arrives, whom Carter kicks and sends into a pile of boxes. Arcing up to an overhead position, the camera observes from above as a third bike collides into the tipped-over second, flipping both vehicle and passenger onto the ground. As Carter steals one of the bikes and begins his pursuit, the camera drops to what seems to be mere inches from the pavement, somehow keeping pace as our hero accelerates to dangerous speeds. A yellow van suddenly passes over the still-low-to-the-ground camera from behind and makes a squealing U-turn, at...

Korean filmmakers have produced some of today’s most cutting-edge movies by borrowing the best elements from Hollywood, Chinese, and Japanese cinema, and mixing them their own unique cultural vision. So when it comes to the action genre, K-films are all over the map. K-actioners range from irreverent comedies to gritty brutal ultraviolence. Story arcs move from funny to savage in the blink of an eye.
Always well-crafted, Korean action films are filled with clever plot twists, refreshing characters that are fully fleshed out, and superb cinematography, However, Korean cinema tends to defy being as easily pigeonholed into genre boxes as Western contemporaries.
For example, Park Chan-wook’s disturbing Cannes winner, Oldboy, is more of psychological thriller than an action film, and yet the brilliant one-er hallway hammer fight is consistently referenced as one of the top examples of fight choreography from that year. Snowpiercer, which spawned a TNT series,...

I Am Groot was a surprising addition to Marvel Studios’ line-up, but a welcome one. A series of five shorts, each of which was brought to life by breath-taking CGI artistry; the stories were low-stake and focused on the Guardians of the Galaxy member during his younger years, after the events of the first film.
The release of these shorts, which have very clearly been defined as separate entities on Disney+ rather than an ongoing show, has indicated that Marvel is willing to get a little riskier when it comes to the formats in which they tell their stories. There’s surely a place for short films within the context of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. What narrative opportunities could occur thanks to the addition of this platform, and are there any benefits to reviving these mini-movies?

Welcome to Deadline’s International Disruptors, a feature where we’ll shine a spotlight on key executives and companies outside of the U.S. who are shaking up the offshore marketplace. This week, we’re speaking with Korean super-agent Soyoung Lee, who represents some of the nation’s biggest stars and talked to us about her experiences of the Korean content boom.
Few have been better placed to both witness and be part of the Korean content explosion than Soyoung Lee, super-agent and founder of one of the nation’s largest talent agencies, Saram Entertainment.
When she opened what was then called Jaewon Promotion Co almost exactly two decades ago – mainly specializing in marketing major brands such as McDonald’s – Soyoung could never have foreseen that by 2022 she would be representing some of the biggest and most in-demand stars not just in Korea but the world.

Universal is usually strong on VOD charts, but this week it dominates by holding 13 out of 30 possible slots with the just-released “Minions: The Rise of Gru” (19.99) leading the way.
At Netflix, “Uncharted” is #1 and leads several in-house productions including “The Gray Man.” Its 200 million investment stands at #5 in its third week. Despite (or because of?) six months of theatrical play (and 149 million gross), as well as extensive VOD availability, the early-year hit starring Tom Holland may have a longer stay at the top than Netflix originals.
Google Play, which tends to lag several days behind iTunes, still has Universal’s “Jurassic World: Dominion” (19.99) at #1, with “Minions” second; elsewhere, it’s #1. Among Universal”s other releases, are high placements for “The Black Phone” (19.99) and two slots each for “The Bad Guys” (5.99) and new release “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” (19.99) from its Focus subsidiary.

The traditional action blockbuster of the 90s and 00s was usually a film where the story was there to provide a rather thin basis for the constant action, to the point that you could fast forward the scenes when there was none. As time passed, and Korean cinema presented the likes of “I Saw the Devil” and “The Chaser”, thriller, drama, social commentary elementss also became part of the particular category, reinvigorating and elevating it to another level. As political correctness became more and more prevalent, these extra elements started to become more intense, occasionally even taking over the action/violence elements. “Carter” on the other hand, by the director of “The Villainess” seems like a throw-back to the action blockbusters of the past, focusing almost exclusively on the rather impressive action, while being ultra violent. Unfortunately, most of the issues from his previous film are also here.

Netflix has unveiled footage from “Seoul Vibe,” a Korean original movie that will release on Aug. 26, 2022. The action film’s retro look harks back to the 1980s when South Korea was leaving military rule in the rear view mirror and experiencing a new kind of cool.
The emphasis is on breathtaking driving sequences, classic vehicles, popping visuals and a groovy soundtrack.
Directed by Moon Hyun-sung, the stylish heist-action film focuses on a crew of gearheads who team up to bust a crime ring as the South Korean capital gets ready to host the 1988 Olympics.
