Excellent XXX one-act play
Living in Manhattan, it is altogether possible to imagine this Bree Mills episode of her Adult Time "Transfixed" series being adapted for the stage -not Broadway, but some open-minded performance art space downtown.
Credit actors Ariel Demure and Brooklyn Gray for wonderful performances in a dramatic setting: mature artiste played by Ariel is auditioning performers to succeed her at her nightclub, as she prepares to leave and accept a career-making opportunity to play on Broadway. She's rejected them all, including (inevitable in-joke) one named Bree Mills.
Final name on this list is Brooklyn Gray, who arrives late in the afternoon, butch styled and dressed in garb hardly suggesting the sophisticated emcee/chanteuse that Ariel is looking for.
Severely styled in a diva role, Ariel adopts the haughty manner of a Bette Davis drag queen in delivers nasty, condescending dialogue with aplomb, Brooklyn suffering through quite a verbal grilling. Gray follows up singing her chosen song "Brooklyn Bad" with an affecting torch singer vocal, that, like the acting, suggests crossover potential for these two artistes, one trans the other cis female.
Mills' direction reaches a high point when during this vocal plus piano performance a seamless edit segues to Brooklyn finishing the song in cabaret costume, suddenly glamorous and joined on the club's stage by Ariel. A transition to sex on stage for at first softcore then evolving into XXX content of a lengthy porn scene ensues. The happy ending to this romance is exhilarating.
The vignette is a breath of fresh air, and points the way for a movement from the current Gonzo trend in adult entertainment toward a more sex positive approach.
