Avengers 5 was originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, only for the movie to lose that shortly after Marvel Studios decided to take the focus off Kang the Conqueror (a result of the mixed response to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Jonathan Majors' legal troubles).
However, a new actor is expected to play a Kang Variant who will still be the Multiverse Saga's main threat. Meanwhile, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is overhauling Avengers 5's script after Jeff Loveness first took a crack at it.
He was supposedly fired from the project shortly after the Ant-Man threequel flopped, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has moved on to Wonder Man and the Shang-Chi sequel.

How much Marvel is too much? That question has hung over the MCU for more than five years, since Avengers: Endgame gave viewers an easy jumping off point. In that time, Marvel has released 25 movies, TV series, and specials, few of them pleasing all but the most committed fans.
It’s no surprise that, since he came back as Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger has talked several times about reducing MCU output. He hasn’t offered much in the way of specifics until now, but that still raises questions about the franchise’s future success.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings made a solid $432 million when it opened in 2021. While that may look like a disappointing number on paper, the box office was still struggling massively in the closing months of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Regardless, with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, it remains one of Marvel Studios' best-reviewed Phase 4 titles and put Simu Liu on the map. Unfortunately, the character has been sidelined ever since and it's now been close to three years since we last saw Shang-Chi on our screens.
Destin Daniel Cretton is expected to helm a sequel - rumoured to be titled Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time - after moving on from Avengers 5. However, he's currently busy working on Disney+'s Wonder Man series, leaving us to wonder just how much of a priority the Shang-Chi follow-up is.

Fans still couldn’t get over the terrible climax episode, My Struggle IV, of the eleventh and final season of The X-Files. While the show was a pop culture phenomenon, the show’s quality descended throughout the final seasons. However, the nail in the coffin was the controversial final episode where Dana Scully and Fox Mulder realized that William was not their child but an experiment. Further to make matters worse, Scully reveals that she is pregnant.
Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder in The X-Files
Fans have debated over this climax since the show ended its second run in 2018. Many concluded that the current child couldn’t have been Dana and Scully’s child but the creator continued to defend the scene. However, he has finally confirmed the fan theories during the 30th anniversary celebrations of the show.

Marvel has plenty of projects bound to be released in the next few years, and we know that most of these projects have been stuck in a sort of limbo due to the historic SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed the whole industry as a whole, causing plenty of projects to be both delayed or altogether canceled.
One extremely anticipated Marvel Studios project that had problems way before the strikes began is ‘Blade.’ It is an McU-based movie following Eric Brooks, the most notable vampire hunter in comics, and a reboot of the already highly popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that contributed to paving the way for the MCU that we know today.
‘Blade’ had hellish production so far, and it was delayed who knows how many times. The most recent rumors indicate that the movie will be delayed once again. This time from November 7, 2025 release to unspecified 2026 release.

Marvel has a bunch of upcoming projects, and many of them got caught in the mess of the big industry strike. This strike caused delays or even cancellations for lots of projects.
One of the highly anticipated Marvel movies, ‘Blade,’ was already facing issues even before the strikes. It’s a reboot of the famous ‘Blade’ trilogy, focusing on Eric Brooks, a well-known vampire hunter from the comics.
‘Blade’ has faced a rocky production journey with numerous delays. The latest rumors suggest that the film will be postponed yet again, shifting its release date from November 7, 2025, to an unspecified date in 2026.
My personal ranking for MCU 2025:
1) Daredevil: Born Again
2) Fantastic Four
3) Thunderbolts
4) Ironheart
5) Captain America: Brave New World
6) Wonder Man
Suspect Zombies, Eyes of Wakanda and What If…? s3 may release next year so expect that ranking to change.

While Marvel fans await the sole theatrical release of the year i.e. Deadpool & Wolverine, one particular film sequel has been on the minds of fans since the original’s success three years ago. Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a huge hit upon release and earned over $432 million amidst the global pandemic.

Destin Daniel Cretton, the filmmaker who co-wrote and directed the Marvel Studios movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and who executive produced American Born Chinese for Disney+, has launched Hisako, a new multimedia production company.
Cretton will run the banner with Jeyun Munford, formerly an executive at Universal and Lionsgate, who will act as the company’s president, running both film and television arms.
With a focus on empowering filmmakers and creatives, one of Hisako’s mission statements is a commitment to transforming the film and television landscape by highlighting marginalized stories and pushing them into the mainstream. The company is founded on the underlying conviction that storytelling has the power to unite audiences worldwide through shared emotions and experiences.
One of the first projects out of the gate for Hisako will be the big-screen live-action take on Naruto, one of the most popular mangas of all time.

The phenomenal ‘90s drama series The X-Files is reportedly getting a reboot from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. The legendary show became a worldwide phenomenon in the 90s due to its blend of investigative drama with supernatural elements. The show also skyrocketed actors Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to global stardom.
While the new reboot is still in development, original creator Chris Carter mentioned how difficult it was for him to mount the show. He recalled an instance where he had to fight for Anderson to be a part of the series as the Fox Network preferred someone who would fit in their idea of s*x appeal. The network reportedly wanted someone like Pamela Anderson for the role of Dana Scully.

When the character Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne) made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut back in 2022’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the idea was that we’d be seeing the character again the following year in her own Disney+ show Ironheart… but 2023 came and went without Ironheart, and the show still doesn’t have an official premiere date. This has caused some fans to speculate that Marvel and Disney+ might have decided to scrap Ironheart, along with the series Wonder Man, which had Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking on the role of the title character, who is also known as Simon Williams and hasn’t been seen in the MCU yet. Marvel Studios has been facing many difficulties with its next “Avengers” installment following the departure of director Destin Daniel Cretton, who left to focus on other Marvel projects (“Wonder Man” and the “Shang Chi” sequel). Screenwriter Jeff Loveness exited as well, but none of that really compares to the firing of Jonathan Majors, who was set to play the film’s villain, Kang The Conqueror, and let go after he was convicted in connection to a violent altercation with his ex-girlfriend (now awaiting sentencing that will be handed down in April).

In 2023, Marvel Studios faced challenges. The Multiverse Saga debut received a lukewarm response, and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ fell short of expectations. ‘Secret Invasion,’ a highly anticipated live-action series about Skrulls, received poor reviews despite loosely adapting a beloved comic storyline. The lone success was ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3,’ overshadowed by the disappointing performance of ‘The Marvels,’ Marvel Studios’ lowest-grossing film to date.
Acknowledging ‘The Marvels’ failure, Bob Iger admitted to its shortcomings, emphasizing a shift toward quality over quantity. Despite occasional announcements of new projects, ranging from street-level heroes to cosmic tales, most upcoming endeavors are animated.
This shift isn’t accidental. According to Daniel Richtman’s sources within Marvel Studios, the future will prioritize animated content, with live-action productions taking a back seat, focusing on more grounded narratives, and becoming less frequent.

Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) has been tapped to write and direct Lionsgate’s forthcoming live-action adaptation of the manga classic Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto.
Specifics as to Cretton’s take on the material are under wraps.
One of the world’s most popular IP, Naruto has sold over 250 million copies in more than 60 countries and territories. Alec Baldwin received support from SAG-AFTRA after being charged with involuntary manslaughter last month. This relates to the Rust shooting tragedy of October 2021, where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot after a prop revolver that the lead actor and producer was holding discharged on the set of the film at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Bonanza City, New Mexico. Director Joel Souza was also injured.
Alec Baldwin in Rust
Baldwin was initially charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter last year, in January. The second charge was dropped, and he pleaded not guilty a month later. The initial case and charge against the actor were dismissed in April 2023. This year, a New Mexico grand jury indicted Baldwin anew for involuntary manslaughter, thus effectively restarting the case against him.
Amid these developments, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was the film’s weapons specialist/handler, is heading to trial on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

Late last year, trouble seemed to be afoot in the Marvel Universe. “Shang-Chi and the Legend Of The Ten Rings” filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, scheduled to helm “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” suddenly dropped out of the picture. Cretton cited his many obligations to Marvel Studios and that he had already taken on too much. Cretton was already scheduled to direct the untitled “Shang-Chi 2” sequel and produce and oversee Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series, “Wonder Man,” and directing a huge ‘Avengers’ film for 2026 on top of it all would be impossible.

Updated, February 8: A Go Fund Me drive has already raised more than $150,000 for the family of Juan “Spike” Osorio, the crew member on Marvel’s Wonder Man series who died Tuesday after falling from a catwalk at Radford Studios.
“On February 6th, 2024, our friend Spike lost his life on the set of Marvels Wonder Man shoot at CBS Radford studios due to a potential structural failure,” reads the fundraise, started by Bill Martel. “We are hoping the Production Company, The Facility, Mbs, Marvel Studios handles things properly, but expect a long road fraught with attorney fees and expenses. In the mean time, bills will be mounting and the widow, Boom Operator Joanne W. will be left to deal with everything. Help if you’re able, it’s greatly appreciated.”

The MCU has an abundance of projects lined up for the next few years. Given the interconnected nature of these projects, fans are increasingly perceiving it as a challenging endeavor akin to homework, involving the tracking of numerous movies and a couple of Disney+ series to fully grasp references, post-credit scenes, and the current movie’s plot. While this approach was effective when the MCU was centered around a few characters with only a couple of movies, the expansion with multiple superhero teams, new characters, and intricate plots has resulted in a continually expanding homework load.
To address this, the ‘Marvel Spotlight’ initiative was introduced. When a series is released under the “Spotlight” banner, it signifies a grounded, character-driven, and, most importantly, standalone approach. It may not be directly connected to the broader MCU, or at the very least, viewers do not need to watch other shows or movies to comprehend the narrative.

MCU has plenty of projects planned in the next few years and due to the interconnected nature of these projects, fans are starting to see it as sort of a homework where you need to follow dozens of movies and at least a couple of Disney+ series to really understand all the references, post-credit scenes and the plot of the movie that you’re currently watching.
While that worked when MCU was primarily about a few characters with a couple of movies under its belt, as the MCU expands with several superhero teams, new characters, and new plots, the homework keeps expanding as well. In late September 2023, Marvel Studios decided to revamp the first season after filming less than half of its episodes, replacing head writers Corman and Ord, along with the initial directors, to realign with the tone of the Netflix series. New showrunner Dario Scardapane, associated with Netflix’s Daredevil spin-off ‘The Punisher,’ was appointed, accompanied by directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead from Marvel Studios’ ‘Moon Knight’ and the second season of ‘Loki.’
The exact episode count for the overhauled season remains uncertain, but reports suggest that filming is set to resume in January to complete the remaining episodes.

Despite ‘Born Again’ being highly awaited, the development of the show was not without problems. Like most projects, it was also affected by the historic SAG-AFTRA strike, and, at some point, the creative differences between what the studio wanted and what the writers delivered grew to be too big, and ‘Daredevil’ was once again in development.
