A brilliant homage to New York City players

A brilliant movie on NYC Point Guards that captures the grittiness of the NY City basketball scene, love for the game and the brilliance of the New York City players, both amateur and professional.

I Love This Game

Brilliant documentary filled with some of the best lesser-known stories in basketball history. NYC's relationship to ball is unmatched. Rod Strickland, Stephon Marbury, Kenny Smith, Shammgod, if you consider yourself a hoop lover you have to see this. Loved how it was shot, made me feel like my 10-year-old self whose first love was 🏀ball.

EPIC DOC

I've watched a ton of sports documentaries... particularly basketball ones and this out did them all. The story of the influence of NYC point guards is unique, inspiring and full of flavor. But the actual film was created so artfully- from the cinematography to the spoken word story teller, to the music to how each "God" was introduced on screen - it transports the viewer right into the culture. I was moved. I started practicing my dribble the next day, looking up where adult women can play bball in the city.

I want more movies by this director! BRAVO.

Blasphemous

This was a decent documentary and gave me a much better insight to the skill, legend and abilities and several players.

I'm not a bible carrying weekly church going person, but I find it offensive for any real person to be comfortable comparing themselves to a God. I know at least a couple of the people in this doc got mama's that raised them better!

The thing about it is every player to lace up a pair of sneakers is a legend somewhere. You don't get to the NBA without owning records in your hometown. As someone who was obsessed with the NBA in the 90's I can tell you, I was very familiar with Mark Jackson, Kenny Smith and Kenny Anderson and will just say, none really impressed me as NBA players, but stats don't lie.

I think the reason these guys never got much shine is because there was nothing explosive or electrifying about their game. That's not required in order for you to be effective, but let's be honest, there are players who were in the league for half as long as Mark Jackson, who made a bigger name for themselves. I don't think Commentator Mark Jackson is a result of his legacy, it's a result of his ability to speak clearly and acumen of the game.

Last, any sports doc that leans on Stephen A Smith is whack! That is one load mouth clown who is wrong more than he is right. He speaks for every ignorant sports fans and the problem is, there are too many!

Worth the watch, but it won't hold up. This doc is in love with itself and that's never a good way to pimp your picture.

One of the best sport docs out PERIOD
sliflicks8 August 2022
I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary start to finish. I found it informative and illuminating. I knew nothing about the point guards of NYC or what they brought to the game of basketball as a whole but this doc told it in an entertaining and fresh way. A MUST WATCH!

Best Hoop Documentary

Everyone I know is talking about this film. It's really well made. So swaggy. Featuring all the great influence players who didn't get the shine they deserved. And their coaches. And the best women point guards. With hiphop, vintage footage and NY soul. I even got tears in my eyes from nostalgic memories of being a kid and looking up to these guys. So good.
