The names of the older comedy writers appear to be references to "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (which also featured scenes in a comedy writer's room). Alan was the name of Carl Reiner's character. Bob was the name of the lead character (called "Rob," which like "Bob" is derived from "Robert.") Selma references Selma Diamond, the writer who inspired the Sally character.
