Gin Ke Dus takes place a day before a watershed moment in Indian history, the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. This is the year the Indian economy officially transitioned from being a welfare state to a capitalistic one. The characters are at the cusp of this transition period and the underlying story being told is one of a class struggle between two Indias. The twins in Gin Ke Dus represent the two facets of India sitting on a knife's edge.
The film was shot over a period of 30 days.
Gin Ke Dus is an homage to Giallo films from Italy from the 70s, specifically the work of Dario Argento. Where this film differs is in the lack of gore. This aspect of the film is heavily influenced by the early American slasher genre, specifically Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - two films with surprisingly little gore.
