Beginning in March 2022, Ti West and Mia Goth have unfolded a decades-spanning saga with what’s commonly referred to as the “X Trilogy,” which of course kicked off with 1970s-set slasher X and continued with the 1918-set prequel Pearl and now the 1980s-set MaXXXine.
It’s of course extremely uncommon to get an entire trilogy of movies in just over two years, but what’s also incredibly unique about Ti West’s trilogy is that each film is a completely different beast altogether. The movies may not be massive box office hits but they’ve damn sure made their mark on pop culture, and they’ve even caught the attention of an all-time cinema great.
In a letter to The New York Times, Martin Scorsese has expressed his appreciation for what Ti West has been able to accomplish with the X Trilogy, and he seems particularly impressed by the way...

Chicago – The same day that director Ti West’s “MaXXXine” – the third film in his “Maxine” series – is released, why not catch up with the story beforehand at Chicago’s Facets with a double feature/discussions on the first two films, “X” and “Pearl,” presented by film programmer Stephanie Sack. Click Ti West for tickets/details.
Mia Goth portrays Maxine in “X” and the title character in “Pearl.” The singularly titled “X” is the first film of the trilogy, and involves a fledging group of porn filmmakers and their cast on a Texas farm location in 1979. In “Pearl,” the setting is the same, but the year is 1918, regarding a dreamy farm girl who desires to dance and eventually be in the fledgling movie industry. The third film, “MaXXXine,” is in theaters the same day, so noble cinema buffs can catch all three.

Disney’s curated short film program, Launchpad, features six unique features created by diverse filmmakers from different backgrounds. In the series second season, The Roof, directed by Alexander Bocchieri and written by W.A.W. Parker, which is up for Emmy consideration, tells a touching story about a queer two-spirit teenager (Phoenix Wilson) who is forced to spend time with his Northern Cheyenne Grandfather (Wes Studi) as he dangerously toils away on repairs to his leaky roof.
Here, Deadline talks to Launchpad senior manager and producer Phillip Domfeh about the powerful impact of diverse storytelling.
Deadline: How would you describe Launchpad as a program?
Phillip Domfeh:The best way to discuss Disney Launchpad is that it sits at the intersection of 100 years of storytelling expertise that resides within the Walt Disney Studios, and the next generation of storytellers that we’re trying to bring up that often come from underrepresented backgrounds, or...

Tyler Perry has conquered the entertainment world — the creative force between two dozen films, 17 television shows, bestselling books and 20 stage plays. He built a thriving studio complex in Atlanta, and just today Deadline reported he has signed a first-look deal with Netflix to produce faith-based films alongside DeVon Franklin.
It’s been a long and improbable journey to the top of his profession, a tale told in the Emmy-contending documentary Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story. Gelila Bekele (Perry’s former life partner) and Armani Ortiz directed the Amazon MGM Studios film, with the first footage shot a decade ago.
“I saw this man becoming busier than ever and I had the privilege of having a front-row seat and I wanted to just document it for archive,” Bekele explained during an appearance at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience in Hollywood. “I realized there’s a huge chunk of missing history,...

Disney’s “Launchpad,” the anthology series of American independent short films will return for its third season. Submissions for the new season are now open through June 2.
“Launchpad” first started in 2021, and is a 12-month program that cultivates emerging filmmakers. Members in the program work closely with Disney creative executives to make live-action shorts to possibly premiere on Disney+. Filmmakers will also be mentored and have the opportunity to engage in a training program that teaches collaboration.
“‘Launchpad’ gave me the opportunity to really stretch myself as a director—working on stunts and collaborating with Industrial Light and Magic (Ilm) on my visual effects is something I could have only dreamed of doing before,” said Erica Eng, director of “The Ghost.” “The program works hard to set us up for success even after the program has ended, and I’m really thankful for their support as a filmmaker.”
Season 2 of “Launchpad” was released on Sept.

Look out Hollywood! Maxine Minx has come to town to be a star, and heaven help those who get in her way. Including, presumably, a mysterious killer who has designs on her.
A24 has finally dropped the trailer for Maxxxine, the final nail in the proverbial coffin of its hit and acclaimed X horror trilogy from filmmaker Ti West.
The previous two installments, X and its prequel Pearl, proved to be a tour de force showcase for star Mia Goth when they were released back to back in 2022 and re-established West as a buzzy filmmaker in the horror community.
Maxxxine, written and directed by West, is set about six years after the events of X and focuses on the lone survivor of that bloody night, aspiring starlet Maxine, played by Goth. Now in grungy mid-1980s Hollywood, Maxine is now Maxine Minx, a full-fledged porn star (and wearing the mileage,...

British actress Mia Goth is being sued for allegedly kicking a background actor in the head. The 30-year-old actress has been accused of battery following an alleged incident on the set of ‘MaXXXine’ in which she plays the title role of Maxine – last year, with James Hunter.
It has been claimed that the actress deliberately lashed out at him after he complained about almost being stepped on, reports Female First UK.
According to documents filed in Los Angeles, obtained by E! news, James explained he was hired to play ‘Dead Parishioner’ for a scene where he was made to lie down in the dirt and play dead while Mia was asked to “step over him, look down at him, and continue to run” past him.
But the actor alleged that around the fourth take of the scene, the actress almost stood on him, and she was “warned to be careful...

Netflix’s Gilmore Girls wannabe series Ginny & Georgia has returned for its second season.
Picking up right after series one’s cliffhanger, the second run follows the aftermath of Georgia’s (Brianne Howey) lies as they begin to unravel, with daughter Ginny (Antonia Gentry) struggling to cover for her.
And though the new episodes manage to explore mental health and racial identity in a way that leaves audiences with far less second-hand embarrassment than that of its 2021 debut – lest we forget Ginny and Hunter’s “Opression Olympics” – they still manage to maintain a healthy dose of teeth-clenching dialogue.
So, here’s a ranking of Ginny & Georgia’s season two dialogue... starting with the cringe and ending with the utterly painful.
Warning, possible season two spoilers to follow
“A cheese factory blew up in France. There was de-brie everywhere.”
(Joe: season two, episode five)
A slow clap for Blue...

Indian comedian, actor, and musician Vir Das’ hour-long standup special “Landing” will bow worldwide on Netflix on Dec. 26. The backdrop is the aftermath of a seven-minute monologue, a satire about the duality of India, he recited after a standup show at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC in 2021 that went viral internationally. After the show, Das boarded a plane back to his home in Mumbai and by the time he disembarked, his entire world had changed, with the monologue attracting reactions across the spectrum.
“Landing” is Das’ fourth special with the streamer, with his most recent one, “Vir Das: For India,” receiving a 2021 International Emmy nomination for Best Comedy. He is currently developing his own single-camera comedy with Fox, CBS Studios and Andy Samberg’s production company Party Over Here. He also starred in the ABC spy drama-comedy “Whiskey Cavalier.” “Landing” is produced by Rotten Science and executive producers Reg Tigerman and Matthew Vaughan.

Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes has confirmed that her 23-year-old son Brentt has suffered a stroke and congestive heart failure.
Following reports on Monday (10 October) that Leake’s son had suffered a heart attack and heart failure, the TV personality, who is also known for her role on Glee, addressed the news on Instagram the same day.
“This is not the way I wanted it to come out. We wanted to be able to talk about it ourselves when Brentt was in a better place,” Leakes said.
“So, here I am because I would rather the correct thing be out there than something that’s not correct,” she explained.
“Two weeks ago today, Brentt had congestive heart failure and a stroke. He’s only 23, so he’s really young for something like that to happen to him,” she continued.
