Updated: In another sign that shows — even famous ones — can no longer “live forever” on streaming in the new era of media companies re-prioritizing profits, a slew of titles will be leaving Disney-controlled Hulu in the coming days as their license deals expire. For now, there are no plans to renew any of the pacts but that is always a possibility in the future.
‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Bob Newhart Show’
The list of departing series includes 18 series from Disney’s 20th Television, including the David E. Kelley Emmy-winning legal shows Ally McBeal, which the studio had been looking to remake, and The Practice, as well as fellow award-winners The Bob Newhart Show, Hill Street Blues and Arrested Development.
A slew of catalog titles from Fox and Paramount also are impacted, as well as a couple of properties each from Nat Geo and NBC News. Update: The license agreements for several...

Emma Seligman’s Bottoms is looking at an estimated weekend gross of $516k on ten screens with a possible leading $51,625 per-theater average for the raunchy, teenage high school girl take on Fight Club.
That’s a win for MGM, its Orion Pictures label and Brownstone Productions, producers on the modestly budgeted ($11.3 million) film written by Seligman and Rachel Sennott. The film skews young and was backed by edgy marketing — ingredients, although never surefire, behind the biggest post-Covid indie film breakouts.
Sunday’s final tally will determine if Bottoms nabs the highest per-screen average post-pandemic on ten or more screens. A24’s Everything Everywhere All At Opened to $50,131 at 10 locations in March of 2022. National Cinema Day, unspooling today, is a wildcard with attendance up but box office dollars limited by $4 tickets and seats available.

King of the Hill fans were shocked to learn of the death of Johnny Hardwick last week. The actor was best known as the voice of Dale Gribble, Hank Hill’s conspiracy-obsessed neighbour on the animated series. When it was officially announced that Hulu had ordered a King of the Hill revival earlier this year, Johnny Hardwick was expected to return, but did he actually get the chance to record any episodes before his death?
According to TVLine, Johnny Hardwick had completed work on “a couple” episodes of the King of the Hill revival. Hopefully this means that we’ll get to hear the actor’s pitch-perfect take on Dale Gribble just one more time. As far as the rest of the episodes of the revival go, it’s not certain if someone else will take over as the voice of Dale or if they’ll retire the character.

Former President Donald Trump is doing another cable news town hall, this time for Fox News and with Sean Hannity in Cedar Rapids, Ia.
The hourlong event, slated for Tuesday July 18, will be pre-taped earlier in the day at Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena. Trump already has another Fox News appearance on his schedule: An interview with Maria Bartiromo set to air on Sunday Morning Futures this Sunday. That one-on-one also will be pre-taped.
Hannity and Bartiromo are friendly interviewers of the former president, and the scheduling comes as Fox News prepares for a potential ratings blockbuster: The first 2024 Republican primary debate, scheduled for August 23.
As the front runner for the GOP nomination, Trump’s participation likely would make a big ratings difference. In 2015, Fox News hosted the first primary debate, when Trump instantly clashed with moderator and political rivals, and it drew about 24 million viewers.

After challenging the High Table in John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves will take a left at Albuquerque to join Jonah Hill for a dark comedy film. Apple Original Films acquired the rights to Outcome, a sinister comedy Hill will direct and co-write with Ezra Woods. Reeves is in negotiations to star alongside Hill in the new project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s exclusive, Hill’s Outcome stars Reeves as Reef, “a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past.”
In addition to directing, starring, and co-writing Outcome, Hill will also produce the film with Matt Dines, his partner at Strong Baby. Hill recently starred alongside Eddie Murphy and Lauren London in You People, a side-splitting comedy about modern love and family dynamics encountering a culture clash with lasting repercussions.

Jonah Hill, in the process of building a thriving filmmaking career, and Keanu Reeves, riding high thanks to the ultra-popular John Wick: Chapter 4, are teaming up for a dark Hollywood story.
Apple Original Films has picked up Outcome, a dark comedy that Hill will direct and has co-written with Ezra Woods.
Reeves is in negotiations to topline the feature, which will also star Hill.
Outcome will star Reeves as Reef, a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past.
Hill, clearly no underachiever, will also produce Outcome with Matt Dines, his partner at their Strong Baby banner, along with the company’s Ali Goodwin. The project will be an Apple Studios production.
The deal finds a home for Outcome, which hit the town as a hot package back in November.

The Rule of Three, a horror novel by Sam Ripley, hasn’t been published yet, but Screen Gems has already come out the winning bidder in a competitive situation over the film rights, and they’re working with Smile producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill to bring the story to the screen. The search for a screenwriter is now underway.
Simon & Schuster UK will be publishing The Rule of Three in June, and Deadline reports that Emily Bestler at Simon & Schuster US recently pre-empted US rights in a six-figure deal.
Sam Ripley is said to be a pseudonym for a well-established, bestselling British author “whose works have sold over a million copies globally.” Whoever they are, they have crafted the following story: Don’t forget The Rule of Three / It’s coming for you / Like it came for me. Can you change your own fate? That question haunts three women.

While "Star Trek" takes place in a technological utopia -- a utopia wherein people can teleport great distances, live in holographic environs, or replicate any food or drink they should want -- there still appears to be room for old media. While the characters on "Star Trek" are typically military officers, they are often careful to attend the theater to see plays, where Shakespeare might still be performed.
On "Star Trek: The Next Generation," there are many, many classical music concerts, and performers still seem to have access to traditional brass, woodwind, and string instruments. Entire libraries may be accessed on a Padd, and Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating) once noted that he was attempting to make his way through James Joyce's "Finnegans Wake." But other characters may be more comfortable holding an actual printed book on bound paper. One might be able to create a force field in the future,...

The romcom has lapsed into such an anaemic state that Rye Lane feels like a miracle. Here’s an entry into the genre that doesn’t surrender to thinkpiece-ready neuroticism. And doesn’t demand two A-listers shoulder the entire job of summoning chemistry from a dead-eyed script. And, most refreshingly, doesn’t subsist purely on nostalgia for romcoms of old.

Paris Hilton has addressed her controversial fib about having voted for former US President Donald Trump in the 2016 election.
During an interview with an Australian TV station days after Trump won the election, the American media personality said that she had voted for the Republican nominee, who she said she’s known “since she was a little girl”.
She later revealed to Marie Claire in 2017 that she didn’t actually vote for Trump, but predicted he’d make a good leader.

Now, in her newest book release, Paris: The Memoir, the socialite further addressed the lie, claiming the “truth is even worse”.

Since that finale, Unforgotten star Sanjeev Bhaskar has been bombarded with questions. “A lot of people on Twitter were saying to me, ‘Why did she have to die?’, ‘Why couldn’t she have just retired and lived with her boyfriend?’” He is talking, of course, about Dci Cassie Stuart – his indomitable sidekick in the cop drama, played by Nicola Walker, who was killed off in the fourth season’s final episode.
The pair were a detective duo with a special spark, the beating heart of the show since it first aired on ITV in 2015. "King of the Hill" was always an odd duck. Its predecessor, the legendary animated series "The Simpsons," earned its acclaim by being endlessly inventive and funny. "South Park," which also premiered in 1997 like "King of the Hill," weaponized its crude animation and gross-out humor to make a big impression. Fans of "The Simpsons" venerate specific quotes and visual gags as if they were holy relics, while fans of "South Park" still remember certain episodes that shocked them. The folks behind "The King of the Hill" weren't especially interested in that stuff. "There were definitely some writers ... pulling it more in the gag direction. My strength is more observational stuff," series co-creator Mike Judge told IGN in a 2006 interview. "King of the Hill" could be funny, but Judge cared more about authenticity. The result was a TV series committed to capturing the lives and mannerisms of working-class folks in Texas -- like protagonist Hank Hill.
