Children Movie
chenghunphukon11 September 2022
This movie is good for the Kids. As they may like it but not for adults. This is totally a children movie. VFX is not atall good.. The monster looks more of animated than real. The storyline is also very common as how a mother try to save his child from danger. Here the monster believing a human kid to be his baby and protect him from danger with an unknown to the fact that his baby was killed by the humans.. The kid who is in the lead did a great job.. and others as usual, nothing new. They try to make the movie more of entertainment and hence add many irrelevant content which make you feel worthless..

A bit madcap
okpilak27 December 2023
A little bit different from some of the Chinese monster movies. Few of the characters were noble and virtuous. In fact, the father of the boy, Sao Ji, is a trash collector, and much of the movie, one could say, is trashy. It starts with miners breaking through a wall, and entering into a massive cave filled with trash, wherein they meet the monster, and assume it is deadly. They also find an egg, and take it out and on the way, their truck spills out crates, one of which has the egg. The father and son find the egg, and take it back to their hovel. The monster comes to retrieve the egg. I can see the monster as being a combination of a number of creatures from several different movies, and it has a personality. Throwing in for comic relief is an eccentric professor and a real kooky helper, Ali. A bit strange for a Chinese movie, the professor has a gray beard and hair, but his face shows he is a young actor in costume. That they didn't do face make up is odd. When the monster came to get the egg, it took Sao Ji with him, and the rest of the movie is trying to get him back. Some scenes may be a bit intense for young children, but there is little offensive in the move. Much of it is silly and comical. Yes, it is dubbed, and the voice for Sao Ji was a poor choice. The CGI was done decently, especially the small creatures (spiders). It is a very forgettable movie.

Goofy Story
Johnny_West1 November 2023
This is a rip of 1960s kaiju miovies that typically had a child in some kind of danger, and a parent or other guardian involved in the monster story to take crazy risks to save the child, while the monsters provided action and terror.

The actual underground monster is a goofy blob with a big round jelly belly that crawls around attacking people with its tentacles. It lives underground in a giant cave that was created by a landfill of junk. Like most kaiju it was created due to radiation poisoning affecting some random human that lived down there.

The creature laid an egg that became a baby monster that the lead characters at the junkyard burned to death. So the creature kidnaps their little boy as a substitute baby.

A very hokey story with a lot of bad special effects. The acting is straight out of the old 1960s kaiju films, so if you enjoyed those kind of oddball characters then this might be a nostalgia trip of sorts.

Sometimes touching Monster Movie
stuart-wise13 August 2023
A review elsewhere on this site suggests that Underground Monster is kids' movie, but adults being thrown about or coiled by tentacles, or a kid dragged away from his mother somehow doesn't fit that category. This Chinese sci fi movie, however, does have some touching aspects to it, especially the relationship between the child and the monster, which reminds me in some way of the relationship between King Kong and Ann , at least in the 2005 Peter Jackson's "King Kong." It is never made clear where the monster came from, though some summaries suggest it was the result of toxic dumping. The movie also could have done without the comedic aspects of a couple of the characters. Overall, it was pretty good movie, if you can take the subtitles.
