- While Annie tries to find out who is giving NASA secrets to the Colombians, Auggie accepts his promotion, and his replacement has difficulty fitting in.
- Auggie has accepted the congressional affairs job and moves to the top floor, yet finds adapting to the public pep-talk mode Arthur must demand hard. Colombian FARC rebels operations have been enabled by temporarily shutting off NASA satellite surveillance. As Smithsonian representative on a space fair, Annie can screen potential suspects. Career-hampered mathematician Chet Laguardi fits the bill best, but after visiting him at home with his doted teenage son Charlie, a sad twist emerges.—KGF Vissers
- Annie (Piper Perabo) wakes up late to find her power went out. She races to get ready for work. She has to drive around for a space and nearly gets run over by a woman who later takes her space in line at the coffee bar.
She complains about the "Alpha Barbie" to Auggie (Christopher Gorham), who also has news. He's the new head of Congressional Affairs. She realizes he's leaving. He'll lose his covert status, so she won't be able to see him all the time.
Jai (Sendhil Ramamurthy) calls her to a meeting about NASA
Joan (Kari Matchett) tells the group about a satellite over a rebel group called FARK going dark during a key time. NASA wants a discrete look into their satellite security. Joan also introduces Auggie's replacement, Reva (Jaimie Alexander). It's Alpha Barbie.
Reva is cold and calculating. She immediately rubs Annie the wrong way. Annie is supposed to interview NASA satellite people as part of her Smithsonian cover.
Annie runs into Auggie at the elevator. She feels weird looking into Americans, but Auggie says Joan knows how she feels and probably picked her for that reason, knowing she'd do a good job.
Joan and Arthur (Peter Gallagher) meet with Chet the lawyer about the upcoming hearings into Arthur. Chet is unconcerned. He says they'll talk after his tennis date in Hilton Head.
Annie visits the science fair and interviews NASA people, including a cocky astronaut and a technician supervisor. His son Charlie interrupts and mentions his dad has worked for NASA his whole life. Annie is interrupted by a Smithsonian person who wants to know more what she's doing there. Annie drops the right name. The woman leaves.
Arthur visits Auggie in his new seventh floor office, with a view Auggie can't enjoy.
Annie checks in with Reva, who scolds her for asking too many questions before the important one in her interviews. Reva cites stats that say people who are lying sometimes show different body language. Reva has homed in on the supervisor technician Will (Mark Moses). Annie says he seemed like the biggest NASA guy, but Reva says he fits the profile. Funding was just cut and his wife left him. They want to put him under surveillance, but Joan says they can't because it involves the NSA.
Reva starts to suggest another way, arguing with Joan's decision. Joan quickly cuts her off and puts her in her place, saying her decisions are final.
Outside, Annie finds Reva crying in the foyer. Annie reassures her Joan has made many people cry on her first day. Reva is used to just dealing with numbers, not people. Suddenly, she gets an idea for one-way surveillance which wouldn't have to involve the NSA.
Annie spontaneously calls up Will and asks if she can drop by a photo as a thank you. He says he's having a bbq and invites her. Reva is concerned, and asks Annie if anything odd happened yesterday. Annie mentions the PR person. Reva thinks Annie might have blown her cover and the bbq is a trap.
Arthur meets with Auggie giving him a good PR story to tell. Annie goes to Will's place and gives him a photo of Apollo 15, his favorite. Will offers Annie a beer. They head up to the roof. Annie has to keep them out of the apartment for 15 minutes so Jai can plant the bug . She talks about her favorite constellation and how her dad pointed it out to her when she was a kid. Downstairs, Jai plants bugs. Charlie shows Annie their telescope and suggests she hang out with his dad. He says their apartment is lame because his dad never asks for a raise. It starts to rain, but it's not 7:15p.m. yet so Annie asks for more food and eats a brat in the rain. They come downstairs just as Jai makes it out a window.
Annie jogs with her sister and asks about her husband Michael, who's been traveling a lot. Danielle (Anne Dudek) admits she doesn't really miss him and isn't that bothered. Annie notices a young woman with a red braid who appears to be following her. She gets Danielle to run down a trail then says she dropped her phone. She urges Danielle to go home. The red braid woman jogs around the corner.
The red braid takes off running as soon as Annie looks at her, but Annie chases her through the trails and across traffic, causing an accident.
Annie calls Reva, telling her she was followed and asking the park police to see if anyone reported her being involved with the pile-up.
Protocol is Annie not go in to work, but she says she'll be careful.
Joan and Arthur go over the giant bill from their attorney, Chet. They think he took advantage of them for a tennis vacation, knowing they needed a hot shot. Joan says she was wrong to insist they hire him. Joan wants Arthur to pay him, then fire him.
Annie makes it into work after taking three buses and two metros. They find the woman with the red braid met with Will last night almost immediately after Annie left. They have audio of Will saying he's ready to make another drop.
Arthur reads over Auggie's first press release, saying it's too dense and vague. Arthur urges him to unlearn his covert skills quickly.
Auggie finds Annie waiting for him in his office. She tells him they have Will caught but it doesn't seem right. Auggie says he can't help. He bombed out for Arthur and has to fix it.
Joan goes in to talk with Will in an interrogation room. He almost immediately says he'll tell her everything about the Colombian rebels. He's tired of lying.
Annie watches from the observation room. Joan asks how the Colombians got to him. He was at a science fair for Charlie. The red braid approached him, saying she was a pRevate contractor. By the time he realized who she worked for, they were blackmailing him. Joan says he could have come to them.
Annie goes home and asks her sister if she wants to talk. She points out Michael's a good father. Danielle says Annie always sees the best in everyone. Annie wonders if maybe she's just naïve.
Annie volunteers to babysit so Danielle and her husband can have a night out.
Back at work, Annie finds Will listed NASA as a beneficiary of his 401K. She tells Reva that's proof he didn't hate them. Reva tells her to move on. Annie tells her normally Auggie would encourage her to follow her instincts. Instead, Reva tells Annie about a project she worked on for two years and wouldn't give up on after obvious failures. She advises Annie to get out of her own way.
Before his press conference, Arthur reads over Auggie's new release and says it's great. He's congratulating him. Auggie seems uneasy.
Annie goes back to Reva, asking her again about body language giving away lying. She shows her Will's interview with Joan, in which he used his tell during the story about the red head with the braid.
Annie goes back to talk to Will. He quotes something sciency she heard Charlie say. She realizes the Colombians had Charlie, not Will. Will admits the red head with the braid snagged Charlie. He got them Will's resume and a paper he had written. Charlie thought he was helping his dad get a new job. As soon as Charlie told him, Will started helping them. Charlie thought Will fixed it.
Annie asks Will why he made the call. He says the Colombians contacted him after she left saying someone had followed her in and left by the fire escape. He knew his place was bugged when he made the call -- to his own voice mail. He was trying to get caught, so he'd be useless to the Colombians. He was protecting his son.
Annie gets a call from "DPD Tech" and expects Reva. She gets Auggie instead. He's back. He wasn't ready to blow his cover and says she was helpless without him. He's up to speed on everything and tells her that Charlie made a call offering the Colombians information in exchange for his dad -- he thinks they have him.
Annie finds Charlie at the Planetarium and quickly tells him his dad is with them. She'll help. Annie sees the woman with the red braid come in with another man. Annie points an usher's laser at the man like it's a rifle sight. They run out. Under the planetarium, Annie knocks the woman down. She tells Charlie to get the gun when it's knocked out of her hand. Annie fights the woman off and knocks her out. She tells Charlie it's over.
Later, Charlie says he can stay with his grandmother.
Arthur and Joan meet with Chet, who keeps talking about his tennis game. Finally, tells them he was playing with Senator Judson, the one who wants to investigate Arthur. He told his committee this morning there was no reason to pursue an investigation. It's over.
Annie, Auggie, Reva and Jai get drinks. Reva is happy to be going back to her tech job with a raise.
Annie goes home to babysit. She tells her nieces about the constellations.
