Al Yankovic can be described in a lot of ways besides "Weird." Most people know that he's a chart-topping singer-songwriter, a director-producer, a top-notch parodist, an author and a die-hard polka enthusiast. Even those who have followed his career closely, however, may have forgotten he was, for a brief moment, the host of a short-lived children's television show.
The Weird Al Show debuted on CBS on September 13, 1997 as part of their Saturday morning lineup. Each episode began with the all important "today's lesson" before viewers were invited into Yankovic's underground...

When it comes to viscerally disturbing runway looks on RuPaul’s Drag Race, I didn’t think this season’s queens could possibly top that time Nina Bo’nina Brown turned herself into a damn human peach. But I was wrong. So, so wrong.

Although we gave you a look inside the special zero issue not long ago, many of you probably wondered when you’d get the same treatment for Secret Empire #1. Well, that day is today, as we can now present more information pertaining to what will undoubtedly be Marvel’s biggest crossover event for the year 2017.
Our first treat to offer is that of the trailer the publisher itself has put together in order to help spread the word. In it, series writer Nick Spencer and Tom Brevoort, Svp of Publishing, hype the event. Among the many interesting things to be found here are the former divulging that this grandiose tale was actually part of his first pitch for Captain America: Sam Wilson. Although the House of Ideas has certainly been no stranger to event books in the past decade or so, it’s quite refreshing to hear that they...

In a moment that was truly reminiscent of the time Randy “Macho Man” Savage hoisted Elizabeth up on his shoulders at Wrestlemania VII, John Cena had a romantic moment with his now fiancé Nikki Bella at Wrestlemania 33. After the pair defeated The Miz and Maryse in their mixed tag match, Cena pulled out a proposal in front of the entire stadium. You might recall that leading up to the match, The Miz and Maryse were mocking Cena and Bella referring to the show Total Divas in which Nikki’s storyline is one where she really wants to marry Cena. It’s time once more for Wrestlemania the biggest professional wrestling and sports entertainment event for fans and performers that there is. This year the event is held in Orlando, the home of Nxt – where a lot of the current roster of superstars got their start -and as usual (at least on paper) the card doesn’t seem that great. But that’s the thing with the WWE’s biggest pay per view, there’s always surprises: especially when it comes to Wrestlemania moments….
We’ve already covered the kick-off pre-show, so onto the main event, hosted by The New Day, who kick off proceedings with a typical New Day promo – only this time they’re dressed like Final Fantasy characters (gotta get that video game sponsorship money right?) Though you have to give it to Big E for the double-entendre, hacker-centric joke about “pulling levers” then staring at Xavier Woods!

It’s that time of year again. Wrestlemania is soon upon us. This event has become the most important event in professional wrestling, showcasing the best of the best of the sport putting on the show of their lives. With Wrestlemania appearing this Sunday on the WWE Network, I thought I’d take the time to discuss my ten favorite Wrestlemania matches, matches that to me epitomize everything that is great about the event. Like any list, it is purely subjective so if you disagree with anything or feel I left something out, let’s discuss it in the comments below.
Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant- Wrestlemania 3
“The irresistible force meeting the immovable object!”
Without Wrestlemania 3, it’s possible that Wrestlemania could have gone the way of Starrcade. The first two Wrestlemania’s, while star studded and showing some glimpses of what the event eventually became, were more events of their time.

As you guys know by now, I’m very fond of the old days of the WWE back when it was called the WWF. Wrestling today is just as entertaining as it’s ever been (if not even more so) but wrestling quality is also a function of your age. When you’re 10 years old everything seems more real so 20-30 years later you end up adopting the whole, “back in my day wrestling was so much better” attitude. While I do have a considerable amount of nostalgia for my favorite wrestlers of my day, I do acknowledge just how popular it

Well the road to Wrestlemania continues for the WWE with the Raw-exclusive pay-per-view Fastlane, one of the companies lesser PPV’s… For most fans this is just the WWE spinning it’s wheels while waiting for the biggest event in the wrestling calendar.
Taking place at the Bmo Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Fastlane opens with a video package showing all the big matches: Owens vs Goldberg, Bayley vs Charlotte, and Reigns vs Strowman. So we know right there that the only titles possibly changing hands in this event will be either the Womens Title or Universal Championship – Gallows and Anderson surely to retain given the non-focus on their match.
As always Spoilers if you haven’t seen the PPV yet…
Opening Fastlane is Samoa Joe vs Sami Zayn in a match that is sure to Not live up to the fantastic Nxt rivalry the pair had prior to their subsequent call-ups.

George “The Animal” Steele — one of the WWE’s most notorious villains know for his green tongue, hairy torso and wild, unpredictable style — has died, the WWE announced Friday. He was 79.
Steele, whose name out of the ring was James Myers, had long been battling Crohn’s disease. He was diagnosed in 1988 after a nine year struggle with its symptoms, he explained on his website, and had his colon removed in 2002.
According to a Facebook post by pro-wrestling agent Eric Simms, Steele had entered hospice care on Thursday. His wife Patricia told TMZ he died Thursday of kidney failure.

The Intercontinental Championship has been the cornerstone of the WWF/E midcard for nearly forty years. During that time, it’s been considered a stepping stone to the big time, and has been contested in the main event at five WWF pay-per-views, including WrestleMania and SummerSlam.
It’s also seen a marked downturn in fortunes recently, in no small part due to abysmally short-sighted booking strategies that have seen the company’s chosen stars booked preferentially over the entire roster, at the expense of building new stars and creating a future.
The title has been held by seventy-six men and one woman, Chyna, in 1999; it was held by Dean Douglas for less than fourteen minutes in 1995; it’s been vacated ten times, and unified with every singles title in the company except the WWF/E Championship.

The influence mixed martial arts has had on pro wrestling, in terms of shaping in ring styles and leading pro wrestlers to jump ship to Mma, is far from a one way street. As much as the sport, still realistically in its infancy, has influenced promotions like the WWE, so too has the WWE influenced the rank and file of the Mma world, and particularly, the Ufc.
There’s no doubt about it: many Ufc stars grew up pro wrestling fans, because frankly, mixed martial arts as we know it today didn’t even exist until the early 90s, and even then, it was an underground sport. While that budding sport slowly grew into the multi-billion dollar business it is today, WCW and the WWE were there, serving as entertainment for young, up and coming gym rats.

Finally, twelve years after his untimely death, Ray ‘Big Boss Man’ Traylor is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, alongside already announced inductees The Godfather, The Fabulous Freebirds, and Sting. The Boss Man will be honored for his memorable contributions to the wrestling business over a career that spanned three decades.

After a pretty strong Dlc calendar post-release, the content window for WWE 2K16 is now sadly closed with the final package – the Hall Of Fame Showcase – now available to players. It’s a good way to crown the Dlc offering – particularly as it offers a lot more than the other Dlc packs released so far – and at $9.99 it’s not the worst value either.
The biggest selling point here is variety: there’s something for everyone. The matches included are Macho Man Randy Savage vs Jake The Snake Roberts, Rikishi vs The Rock, Alundra Blayze vs Paige, Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson vs Ricky The Dragon Steamboat and Dusty Rhodes, Tatsumi Fujinami vs Ric Flair, The Bushwhackers vs The Natural Disasters, and The Outsiders vs Harlem Heat. We have now seen everything that WWE 2K16 has to offer.
Earlier this week, the Hall of Fame Dlc was released which gives WWE’s gaming Universe the opportunity to play classics like ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage vs Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, Rikishi vs The Rock and… Alundra Blayze vs Paige. Yeah, that last one is a little bit confusing.
But on the whole, WWE 2K16 has been well received by fans the world over and has seen the company’s marquee game get back somewhere remotely close to its former glories. We wished that a plethora of features that were inexplicably left out of 2K15 would return, and 2K duly delivered.
Now, we’re all hoping that the progression showed with this year’s title continues into next year. If it does, we’ll be onto a winner.

Savage’s ‘Mania resume is filled with one “WrestleMania Moment” after another, from his technical masterpiece with Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, to his brutal Falls Count Anywhere match with Crush. All of this can be seen in the recently released “The Resurrection of Jake The Snake”, the critically acclaimed documentary that was released on iTunes last week after a well-received theatrical run. All of this can be seen in the recently released “The Resurrection of Jake The Snake”, the critically acclaimed documentary that was released on iTunes last week after a well-received theatrical run. But, before all of Jake’s personal problems became public and threatened to define him, he was one of the greatest talents in the history of WWE.
And for a very short time, he was also one of the company’s most hated and despicable heels.
In just nine months, while performing as one the most vile and truly evil villains in wrestling history, Jake racked up one disturbing moment after another as he antagonized legends such as The Ultimate Warrior, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and The Undertaker. Jake helped redefine what a wrestling heel could be,...

Back in 1997, the new World order were a happy bunch, taking over WCW, winning all the titles and generally making all the babyfaces’ lives a misery.
But after the fallout from Starrcade 1997 and last week’s Nitro Wtf Moments from the January 5th, 1998 episode where Savage inadvertently knocked out Bischoff, causing Savage to slap Hogan for questioning him which led to Nash laying out the Macho Man, this was going to be an interesting episode to view and dissect.
On the January 12th, 1998 edition of Monday Nitro we see the new World order try to become a united front again in the battle for WCW. On the debut edition of Thunder, Jj Dillon stripped Sting of the WCW World Title and the belt is vacant until the big grudge match with Sting and Hollywood Hogan to determine the Undisputed WCW Champion. That match will take place at Superbrawl in about six weeks.

Scott Hall is the latest pro wrestler to comment on rumours of a Stephanie McMahon / Randy Savage affair. During his recent Kayfabe Commentaries interview, he was outright asked by a fan “Did Randy f*** Steph?”
Hall replied “I’ve only heard that recently. Having been around Randy, I would think no. Because he was so awkward around broads. I don’t see that, I have no idea though.”
What’s interesting about seeing Hall make the comments, is that he’s close to both Stephanie and Triple H. He’s one of Hunter’s best friends.
The rumour is one of the biggest gossip stories in modern wrestling history. It all started out as a result of Vince McMahon’s refusal to acknowledge Macho Man’s history with WWE. However, the company changed their policy this last year, with Savage going into the Hall Of Fame and a documentary exploring his life.

The WWE 2K16 Future Stars Pack will be released for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on January 26.
The latest Dlc will include Nxt Superstars Samoa Joe and Blake and Murphy, along with the main roster’s Los Matadores (Diego & Fernando). It will cost gamers $7.99 or can be purchased as part of the Season Pass – which saves you more than 20% on all the downloadable content – for $24.99.
Samoa Joe has been one of the more prominent players in what is still considered WWE’s developmental territory since making his debut last May, while Blake and Murphy are former Nxt Tag Team Champions.
Los Matadores’ inclusion is a bit more confusing as the pair have been part of the main roster in one gimmick or another since 2011. Plus, there has been pretty heavy speculation over the last few months that they could be repacked once more…

For years, pro wrestling fans around the world wanted to see ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. The legendary grappler was someone many argued was a huge omission from the annual ceremony. One of the best-remembered stars from his generation, Savage was also a sterling in-ring performer.
In 2015, people finally got their wish, with Hulk Hogan posthumously inducting Savage into the WWE Hall Of Fame. An interesting choice, because there had long been rumours of a love/hate relationship between both men. In fact, proposed issues between the pair have been a talking point in the wrestling industry since the 1980’s, and there have been many (often wildly different) stories about their arguments and friendship.
Issues with Hulk Hogan aren’t the only question marks hanging over the life and career of Randy Savage. The man had a storied, lengthy tenure in the wrestling business,...

WWE fans are a very demanding bunch. They know what they want, and they have no problems voicing their opinion…loudly…on what they want. As 2015 comes to a close, we look at a brand new year, and a brand new list of demands from WWE fans. Never satisfied, they have a brand new list of demands for the WWE to consider. Some of them are in WWE’s control, like booking decisions, and some are out of their control, like returns from injury or retirements.
Last year, we said we wanted some Nxt call-ups, including Neville, Tyler Breeze, Charlotte and Kevin Owens. All of those demands were met in 2015. We also wanted Macho Man Randy Savage in the Hall of Fame, and that wish was also granted. However, other predictions sadly weren’t granted, whether they be WWE’s decision or not. Sting didn’t wrestle The Undertaker at Wrestlemania.

The Legends Pack for WWE 2K16 – which will include no less than six greats from the company’s past – will be released on December 22.
Available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360, the pack will include: Big Boss Man, Dusty Rhodes, Lita, Mr. Perfect, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Trish Stratus.
An advert was aired during Sunday’s TLC pay per view showing what all the Superstars will look like in the game. The pack will cost gamers $8.99, although you could buy the Season Pass for $24.99 and get the Accelerator, New Moves pack, 2015 Hall of Fame showcase Future Stars Pack – as well as the Legends Pack – when they become available in the coming months.
This is a great selection of Superstars on offer, and very timely considering the recent deaths of both Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper.

WWE has been built on a foundation of dastardly heels and all-conquering babyfaces. Granted, these days it seems that about 80% of the roster flits far too often from one role to another, or simply just gets a nonplussed reaction no matter what they do (hey, Sheamus!).
Whilst their roles and characters may have changed over the years, there are some special performers who are equally as fantastic at being a no-good bad guy or a baby-kissing good guy. It’s a tough act to be able to pull off both personas to a high standard, but it’s certainly not impossible.
Now many fans have been crying out for a Roman Reigns heel turn for the past few months, with the rationale there being that a solid run as a great, cocky, natural heel would do wonders for Roman and cause him to transform into the man when he...

There’s something about wearing tights and beating up on people in front of a roaring crowd that makes you feel invincible. After all, if you deliver a perfect and precise flying elbow drop from the top turnbuckle or fall twenty feet through a table and get right back up, then truly nothing is impossible!
Except making really good music, apparently. Because the skills learned in the ring apparently don’t magically translate to the recording studio. Who Knew?
As long as wrestlers keep trying to branch out from the industry that made them famous and expand their personal brand by any means necessary, then we’ll never have to worry about living in a world where wrestling superstars don’t make cringeworthy albums.
Although, as you’ll read below, not all of these attempts are terrible. In fact, you might even like a few of them, if...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Oh wait no, that would be Christmas. Again, my bad, that would be children. Actually, I’m sure many WhatCulture readers will be heading to a fancy dress party of some form, looking to dress up as ridiculously as possible and drink many questionable liquids in the process.
But wait, you’ve left it too late for the perfect costume, I hear you cry? Well, luckily professional wrestling throws up a lot of potential in this area. The internet is riddled with groups of grown men (and women) dressed in a variety of bright colours, mimicking the biggest names in This Business. Hulk Hogan, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage,...

One of the most memorable scenes in 2002.s Spider-Man was when Peter Parker used his new abilities for the first time in public to earn some spending money. To do that, he had to get in the fighting ring with "Bone Saw" McGraw, played by wrestling star "Macho Man" Randy Savage. What you didn.t know is that when Savage wasn.t shooting his scenes, he was off "getting busy" in his trailer - a trailer he shared with Bruce Campbell, who played the ring announcer. Campbell recounted to Yahoo! Movies how Savage would bring his girlfriend back to the trailer to engage in passionate sex, which Campbell had the misfortune of listening to. As the Evil Dead star colorfully explained: It didn.t matter where I sat. There was some girlfriending happening right next door, but it.s like a duplex with no insulation. So yep. He had fun...

World Championship Wrestling, for all its faults, is a loss to the pro wrestling industry. Ever since the promotion closed doors and was eaten alive by Vince McMahon’s deep pockets, WWE hasn’t really had any competition to speak of. That’s a shame, because it’s fair to say that competition is something the juggernaut has thrived on over the years. McMahon is at his best when he’s being pushed to be, in other words.
Rewind to 1995 and WCW wasn’t quite ready to compete yet. Since effectively taking over a few years before, Eric Bischoff had managed to somewhat turn the company around. Money was now in a much more plentiful supply, which led to the signing of free agent Hulk Hogan in 1994. The likes of ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage and Lex Luger would follow before the end of ’95.

The great Mark Twain is reputed to have said, “History doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme a lot.” That’s a nice way of putting it… another way is to suggest that there’s nothing new under the sun: everything’s a rehash of a Xerox of a reboot of a copy, especially in the cheerfully plagiaristic world of professional wrestling.
Then there’s the times that life simply hiccupped and ran the same piece of bad luck all over again, because life’s like that sometimes. Or there are the weird coincidences that plague us all – like the fact that in the entire state of Ohio in 1895 there were only two motor cars, yet they still managed to hit each other.

The subject of pay for main event stars in WWE and WCW has always been a controversial subject. On too many occasions, wrestlers have made far more than they were actually worth. Especially in WCW, top level stars were just stealing a living. Even in the WWE, how many times have we seen a wrestler pushed just because they were on a big deal?
Look no further than Sheamus. He’s on a million dollars guarantee a year. Want to know why he has been continually pushed for years as a top guy? It is because WWE need to recuperate as much of that million as possible.
But there are guys out there who have justified the big bucks. Between the downside guarantee and add-on royalties, some WWE wrestlers have made millions. And they’ve been worth every cent of it, because when you make it big in WWE,...

Damien Sandow has brought back his Intellectual Saviour of the Masses gimmick. Sort of.
The Miz’s former stunt double, who has been missing from our screens for some time now, worked a dark match at last night’s SmackDown taping in Little Rock, Arkansas against Adam Rose. He came out in his trademark blue robe and wore pink tights in the ring. He was a babyface, however – unlike his previous run as the character where he won the Money in the Bank contract, no less – and cut a promo after his win to say that he was no longer a stunt double and would now be portraying “the voice of common sense…”
Well, being a condescending so-and-so towards the WWE Universe isn’t going to get you over as a babyface, is it?

Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts knows a thing or two about wrestling. Commonly regarded as one of the greatest grapplers never to win the WWF Championship (or any title in the promotion!), he drew considerable admiration for his intense charisma and heavily psychological ringwork. It’s therefore no surprise that his guest slot on Steve Austin’s podcast is riddled with nuggets of advice, many relating directly to today’s product.
Austin’s show is usually full of nostalgic tales and humorous anecdotes, but the Texan pair actually dedicate a considerable chunk of airtime to discussing the art of wrestling itself, delving into the topics of classic heel work, the mechanics of putting together a match, and maintaining credibility in the eyes of the fans.

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.
