The voice in the phone call Kate receives is played backwards. When reversed it can be clearly heard to say: "The island beach, we have to go back before it's too late".
The often mentioned but never seen character of Jeremy Bentham is named after another philosopher. Bentham (1748-1832) was an Englishman who espoused many progressive ideas, including the greatest-happiness principle. It holds that one must always act so as to produce the greatest aggregate happiness among all sentient beings, within reason. Bentham is considered to be the "spiritual founder" of University College London, because of his arguments in favour of education for all. When he died, his instructions were that his body was to be dissected, then preserved as an auto-icon. This auto-icon is now on public display in the entrance of the Student Centre at UCL. One of Jeremy Bentham's influences is another familiar name: John Locke.
The scene between Charles Widmore and Sun, set in London, England, was actually shot in England, because Alan Dale could not travel to Hawaii to film the scene due to acting commitments pertaining to his West End role in Monty Python's "Spamalot" production. This is the second time an episode of Lost featured footage filmed outside of the United States, the first is in The Shape of Things to Come (2008). Both scenes were shot on the same trip by the film crew.
