The Siskel & Ebert Interviews (1995)
To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, Chicago film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert sit down with some of the biggest names in Hollywood for this television special. Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and Steven Spielberg and Brad Pitt are interviewed for this special. There's nothing overly ground-breaking about this special but at the same time there's no question that the interviews are good. Siskel gets to interview Streep where he talks about her greatness, how she gets it and what inspires her. Ebert interviews Hanks and Spielberg seperately and these are certainly very good. Hanks talks about his Oscar wins, his love of Kubrick's 2001 and why he says he will never play a bad guy. With Spielberg, he talks about a trip his father took him on a child that helped form him, the divorce aspect of E.T. and other films that he made. Finally, Brad Pitt talks about a memory of his father that helped shape him and then he goes into stories about acting, his early career (including CUTTING CLASS) and where he wants to go. Pitts interview with Siskel is perhaps the most interesting of the four and especially when it comes to talking about his good looks, which immediately makes him feel uncomfortable. His reasoning why is certainly the highlight of the show.
