Director: Jourdan McClure. Writer: Ryan Finnerty and Jourdan McClure. Cast: Bill Oberst Jr., Hannah Levien, Whitney Nielsen, Nich Kauffman and Galen Howard. Children of Sorrow is an indie film from Rogue River (2009) creators Ryan Finnerty and Jourdan McClure. The film's story focuses on an isolated cult in the desert. Here, one man brings twelve followers on a journey to hell; few survive the trip. Children of Sorrow also focuses on one villainous character, while more heroic characters are simply forgotten. Light on conflict but full of disturbing and awkward scenes, Children of Sorrow is a harrowing tale set in the depths of madness. The story is centered on one man - Simon Leach (Bill Oberst Jr.). This character calls himself the Father, but this is not one man you would want in your family life. The Father recruits several impressionable twentysomethings. Once interviewed and indoctrinated, the followers are slowly brought...

Children of Sorrow isnt an engaging piece of film. It stands inferior to every comparable film I mentioned earlier in this review. As a viewer I felt so completely divided by the film that it seemed nearly impossible to find and grasp the strengths of the motion picture. Thats a terrible thing. I could care less if Oberst Jr. fully dedicated himself to the project and did an eerie job at that it takes more than a single personality and performance to drive a movie forward. Children of Sorrow had nothing other than the lone marquee name in the credits. A shame...

Every horror fan has their own idea of what’s authentically frightening, but for me personally, successful horror goes straight for the kill by getting to the root of what scares us on a primal, inherently human level. It touches nerves and stirs fears that live deep inside all of us. We’re unsettled, disturbed, and maybe even provoked as a result. Children of Sorrow is the type of film that successfully does all this and more by drawing us into the lives of some truly fascinating characters.
The film introduces us to cult leader Simon Leach (Bill Oberst Jr.) and a group of desperate teens he has assembled together in a Mexico desert compound to help him realize his personal vision of faith and spiritual growth. The latest member of the group is Ellen (Hannah Levien), a young woman searching for her sister who...

My favorite line from this trailer: “The blood and guts fly out….the camera does not stop rolling!”…Well, let’s hope not!
The movie’s lead actor, who is slicing his way through more than half-naked nubile bodies is Bill Oberst Jr. If you were at the screening of the St. Louis-lensed shocker Coyote last month at Mx Theater, you saw that film’s star Mr. Oberst who is currently swinging for the title of “Hardest Working Man In Horror” with no less than twelve major roles in independent horror films this year. Bill’s most famous role was as honest Abe in Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies (2012), which, though not quite as good as Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter, was far superior than that boring-ass Speilberg movie.
The Los Angeles-based actor has just arrived in the woods of Kentucky to start shooting his 6th feature film of the year (The...

After Dark Originals, which features a combination of originally produced and acquired films, has announced the fourth film in its second series, the Jourdan McClure-directed Children of Sorrow, which brings us a “petrifying look into a cult psyche.”
After Dark Horrorfest was an incredible thing for the horror genre, snatching up and distributing independently produced horror flicks and packaging them up in their nifty “8 Films to Die For” banner. While only a small handful of them were truly good flicks (Lake Mungo and Frontier(s) are incredible), there’s no denying that After Dark was doing a damned good thing for budding filmmakers and fans as a whole.
After 2011, After Dark Horrorfest was supplanted by After Dark Originals comprised of originally produced and also, for the second series, acquired films. Children of Sorrow, which looks to be a unique little take on the “cult” sub-genre of horror films, will...

This just in from the Bill Oberst Jr. camp. Oberst (Take This Lollipop, Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies, Children Of Sorrow), one of our favorite genre actors has officially signed with Amsel, Eisenstadt & Frazier for theatrical and commercial representation.
By signing with the agency, Oberst joins a list of talented actors including a couple of my personal favorites Danny Trejo (Grindhouse, Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn) and Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Rob Zombie's Halloween).
This is exciting news for horror fans as it will undoubtedly open up many more acting opportunities for Oberst and will hopefully land him some much deserved higher profile gigs.
Check out the full details below from today's official announcement.

The first movie trailer for Children of Sorrow, from the masterminds behind Rogue River, (director Jourdan McClure and writer Ryan Finnerty) has just been unleashed.
You can check out the trailer below the film details.
Synopsis
Children of Sorrow, a young woman embeds herself in a cult looking for answers to her sister's disappearance, only to find a dark secret within the cult and an even darker secret within herself.
Director Jourdan McClure says, "Children Of Sorrow is unlike anything I thought I would do. It’s really my attempt at a P.O.V Mocku-horror film with roots in the slice of life genre. The story is told through the lenses of diegetic devices. This is not found footage but the style utilizes elements of the Ff aesthetic along with the documentary presentation to make something unnerving and interesting."

Children of Sorrow is the latest horror film from director Jourdan McClure. Fans of film might recognize McClure's name from his earlier production, Rogue River. Rogue River involved kidnapping and murder. McClure has stepped up the bloodletting with Children of Sorrow as seen in the film's trailer. In the clip, cultists who step out of line are tortured and then dispatched. Governed by a ruthless leader, Simon Leach (Bill Oberst Jr.), followers hide "a dark secret." Shot in a found footage or pseudo-documetary style, fans of horror can have an early look at this film below. A release date is forthcoming. Director: Jourdan McClure. Writer: Ryan Finnerty. Cast: Bill Oberst Jr., Hannah Levien and Whitney Nielsen.
