In this rebroadcast from 1981 of a special "Take 2" program from the previous year, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert are showing us the process they go through when reviewing a new movie before going to the screening room as well as their reactions after when writing for their respective papers, the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times. In this chronicle, the film they were going to see was The Black Marble, the latest from director Harold Becker and writer Joseph Wambaugh after The Onion Field which both Gene and Roger previously enjoyed greatly. Near the end of the program, they read each other's reviews and analyze each other's thoughts. For the record, Siskel gave it 2 and a half stars, Ebert 3 and a half. Then in the updated segment, Roger reveals the movie flopped and most of the other critics agreed with Gene. Both mentioned their comments from then still stands. This was perhaps one of the most fascinating looks at the routines of these two veteran Chicago newspaper reviewers at the height of their careers. It brought me such great pleasure to know that this was available for viewing on the siskel&ebert.com site that I recently discovered. So on that note, if you're curious enough, I highly recommend "Going to the Movies: Revisited".
