Sex & Nudity

  • There was slight nudity
  • In episode 7, there is a scene where a girl only has her panties and bra on and they focus on her half naked for a few moments.
  • The uncut release contains some brief partial nudity that was edited out of the TV version.
  • An antagonist threatens to have his men gang-rape two women. Although it doesn't occur, the women are seen being pinned down by the men, and their clothes appear torn in places. A man starts to pull one of the women's shirts up, briefly exposing the underside of her breasts.
  • One of the main characters, a young woman, constantly wears a white skin-tight suit. Because of this, the outlines of her nipples, breasts, and buttocks are seen. Less often for her nipples.
  • A girl tries to seduce Ganta by letting the back of her blouse slip, and is shown huddled naked against a piece of furniture during a flashback. One of her nipples is briefly seen in the flashback.
  • Some innuendos and references. mostly towards masturbation and "getting off". A female character tells a male character to "go masturbate in a container of formaldehyde."

Violence & Gore

  • In most episodes, a fight of some kind or another occurs. They can range from somewhat mild to very graphic in nature.
  • A character is graphically burned to death by corrosive acid.
  • Many characters have special powers that allow them to use their blood as weapons or armor. However, they usually must cut or injure themselves first in order to use such powers.
  • Weapons of all kinds are used in the series, such as swords, pipes, guns, bombs, flamethrowers, knives, and others. When they are used on someone, the end results are usually graphic and bloody.
  • After having his arm mostly sliced off, one of the protagonists rips the remainder of it off and throws it at the person responsible, a young girl. The severed limb strikes her in the head, leaving a bit of blood on her face.
  • A boy's entire class is massacred by an unknown killer. He wakes up to find the classroom dark while blood covers the entire room and the bodies of his classmates lie strewn about the room. The killer then holds up the head of one of his friends and throws it at him (barely visible in the cut version because of the darkness). He screams in terror as the killer shoots something into his chest and he passes out.
  • A guard slashes a prisoner's shoulder with a sabre, and blood gushes out of the wound.
  • There is a game called the "Carnival Corpse" that the prisoners have to compete in. Numerous prisoners die. The deaths are very bloody and graphic even in the censored version, since the scene takes place during the day so there is no darkness to obscure what is going on.

Profanity

  • Frequent uses of "fuck" and "shit". Other profanities include "ass", "bitch", "bastard","hell", and "damn". Profanity is not as prevalent in the subtitled version.
  • The middle finger is sometimes used.
  • A man asks a woman "How big are those titties?"
  • One female character uses the word "cunt" repeatedly, and other characters infrequently use the same word.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some alcohol and tobacco usage, nothing frequent.
  • At one point, a character is drugged with several needles during an interrogation.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The show has many disturbing themes including child abuse, rape, insanity, school massacres, corrupt justice systems, and many others.
  • The show should only be viewed by those who are 17 years or older; and even then only watched by those who can handle brutal violence and very disturbing material.
  • The whole plot revolves around a young teenage boy who is sent to a brutal prison filled with death row inmates, known as Deadman Wonderland, for supposedly killing his entire ninth grade class.
  • Instances of disturbing violence include a brief arm-chopping and an eye-removal.
  • The prisoners all wear collars around their necks. If they don't eat a piece of candy (which serves as an antidote) every three days, the collars will kill them. This happens to someone early on; blood squirts out of his eyes and mouth after the collar injects him with poison.
  • The owner of the prison may frighten some viewers due to his sadistic nature.
  • A young girl has a split personality which is that of a sadistic serial killer. She can sometimes change into this without warning, and her appearance and mannerisms are unsettling, especially when she smiles in her split persona.
  • The prison sometimes acts as a gladiatorial arena/carnival. Various inmates are pitted against each other in deadly games while spectators watch the bloodshed.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • In a flashback, a male character is revealed to have been molested or raped by a group of older men when he was young.

Violence & Gore

  • Surviving losers of the organized fights between blood-users (Deadmen) are forced to play a sick game for punishment. A slot machine labeled with the names of body parts spins and the loser specifies when to stop the slots. Whatever body part the machine comes to rest on is amputated from the victim by doctors as a reminder of their failure. Through this process, a man's eyeball is ripped out of its socket with little to no censoring. Later, flashbacks to the slot machine explain the absence of various parts from character's bodies.
  • One of the antagonists murders a pregnant woman by cutting her open with a blade. It is shown briefly and in shadow, but can still be disturbing to some.
