The person sitting near Laurie and Travis in Subway is Danny Pudi. In Critical Film Studies (2011), Pudi's Community character Abed mentions that he was allowed on the Cougar Town (2009) set to be an extra.
Sam Lloyd reprises his Scrubs (2001) role of Ted Buckland. Ted met his ex-girlfriend "Gooch" during the eighth season of that show. He also mentions Hooch, a surgeon whom Turk and J.D. accidentally drove insane; Ted quotes Hooch's last line on the show, "Hooch is crazy."
The baby that Laurie (Busy Phillips) points out in the grass skirt is actually Busy Phillips' daughter, Birdie.
To spoof the title which no longer matches the content of the series, in the second season the producers started adding self-deprecating jokes to the show's title card. The one for this episode reads: We will never stop mocking the title... "Cougar Town".
The man who freaks out at the Subway is played by actor Danny Pudi. Pudi's character on the show Community is a fan of Cougartown and in one episode tells a story about being given a role as an extra on the show and being so nervous that he pooped his pants. However, in Community, the scenes is described as one with Courtney Cox, and Pudi's character is walking in the background.
