Trying to Forget It
It's hard to believe that this was a starring act in vaudeville, and yet it was. When Bob Hope started out in a two-act in the 1920s, he later commented that he knew he had to do something more sophisticated than this -- it would be hard to do anything less sophisticated as it is a combination of bad jokes, catchphrases and repeated idiocies -- imagine George Burns and Gracie Allen but without any fun attached.
After ten minutes of some awful work, suddenly the two go into a pretty good little dance number. Clearly there was some talent there. Clearly it must have appealed to the audience. Whatever it was, it is impossible to discern from this film.
