London, Feb 24: Richard Branson has revealed that he won't be taking Hollywood A-listers like Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie or Ashton Kutcher on Virgin Galactic flight's risky maiden voyage.
The 63-year-old business magnate told The Guardian that Nasa has lost about 3 percent of everyone who's gone into space.
For a government-owned company, one can just about get away with losing 3 percent of their clients, but for a private company you can't really lose anybody, Branson asserted.
Branson added that it's a chillingly businesslike concept to declare that a 3 percent death rate is an acceptable margin of error for.

With the broadcast reality space in a runt of late, NBC continues to take big swings. Following the expensive two-week Million Second Quiz stint, the network has bought another even bigger-budget show — the space travel reality series that Survivor and The Voice producer Mark Burnett had been pitching with British mogul Richard Branson. This marks a reunion, as 12 years ago NBC outbid several other networks for Burnett’s Destination: Mir, which was later scrapped as the Russian space station that was to be the series’ destination was brought down shortly thereafter. Burnett later tried with Destination: Space, which also didn’t get off the ground. Both were in partnership with the Russian space program and to use Soyuz rockets. The new NBC series, titled Space Race, is done with Branson’s Virgin Galactic, advertised as the world’s first commercial spaceline. The premise is the same — everyday people compete for...

NBC is placing yet another bet on The Voice producer Mark Burnett. Following Voice's monstrous ratings and an unprecedented Emmy win, the network has ordered Space Race from the producer's One Three Media. The competition will feature everyday people vying for a trip on Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo, the commercial spaceline from Sir Richard Branson. "The scope of this endeavor is so staggering, that it took these two titans to even imagine it," said NBC Entertainment president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy. Maggie Gallagher thinks the Pope and his new ideas are exhilarating, and perhaps gay rights activists should practice what he preaches. “What I find most exhilarating about Pope Francis, is the possibility that we can reach out to those with whom we disagree without surrendering principle. I will say I have not found that true generally. I have found the gay rights community — the activists anyway, not the ordinary folk — is mostly asking for one thing: Agree, or be judged a hateful bigot. But when you are in the fray of battle, it is easy to become fragile and to lose sight of possibilities. Maybe the pope can do things I cannot imagine. Imagine that!” But not her. No.

London, Sep 21: William Shatner, who played the iconic Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek, is apparently afraid of flying.
Shatner turned down Richard Branson's offer of flying in Virgin Galactic's SpaceShip Two, as he is afraid of flying, the Daily Express reported.
The 82-year-old billionaire said that Shatner told him that there was no guarantee that he would come back.
Shatner, who was given the opportunity in 2011, was required to pay the 125,000 pound bill in full by himself.

In a new interview, billionaire Richard Branson revealed that he offered William Shatner the opportunity to travel to space aboard his Virgin Galactic spaceship. But it turned out that the actor is more like his "The Twilight Zone" persona rather than his "Star Trek" one. "He actually said he's frightened of airline travel -- which is slightly disillusioning," said Branson. "Captain Kirk is scared of flying." But Shatner has a different version of the story. "[Branson] wanted me to go up and pay for it and I said: 'Hey, you pay me and I'll go up. I'll risk my life for a large sum of money,'" said the actor, who made close to $1 billion with his Priceline deal. "But he didn't pick me up on my offer." Branson himself will be on board the inaugural flight, which is set for December 25th.

Unlike his on-screen persona, Captain Kirk, William Shatner will Not be going to the final frontier.
As the Daily Mail reports, mogul Richard Branson offered Shatner the opportunity to travel to space aboard the Virgin Galactic Spaceship Two. But the "Star Trek" icon turned him down -- because he's afraid of flying!
"He actually said he's frightened of airline travel -- which is slightly disillusioning. Captain Kirk is scared of flying," Branson told The Sun.
But the 82-year-old begs to differ. In 2011, Shatner told reporters that he didn't sign on because Branson expected him to pony some $200,000 for the trip. The tycoon is a stickler for not giving out freebies to celebrities.

Will Cate Blanchett be joining the next Star Trek film? If this black skirt suit by Tom Ford is any indication, she may be headed to actual space, perhaps as a member of the in-flight crew on Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic flights? Something about the tight fit, wide peplum pop and all-around uniform feel make the Blue Jasmine star look like she's about to partake in some very official business, in a galaxy far, far away. Of course if we're wrong and Cate-the-Great isn't headed on a mission to Mars, then does this look work on Earth? Frankly, we're not so sure... It's very drab and severe, even for fall fashion. Plus we prefer The Hobbit actress in something that highlights her...

Beliebers will be hoping their idol fulfils his ambition to shoot a video in space, but is the boy saviour fully aware of the risks of celebrity space travel?
Bieber in space. Lost in Showbiz heard the fateful news last week and has not slept since. For the benefit of those who have been remiss with their Justin Bieber monitors, let us recap: in the manner of Superman, Dr Manhattan and a thousand other messianic superpowers before him, the almighty teen sensation has grown weary of our tawdry planet's sham, drudgery and broken dreams and sought momentary respite beyond the suffocating reach of Earth's atmosphere.
The star and his manager Scooter Braun – there, presumably, on the off-chance some cheeky extraterrestrial Simon Cowell tries to lure the kid off to break the lucrative teen-pop market in Betelgeuse – are the latest "future astronauts" to sign up for a glimpse of the great...
