Better than expected

I actually thought this was going to be a silly comedy, so I was quite surprised (not necessarily pleasantly, but still), when I started watching it and it turned out to be a serious movie. Acting isn't that bad either. And while I neither have a beef or any other sort of involvement in the Bushido/Sido war going on, I have to admit, this one is far better than "Zeiten ändern Dich" (german title of the movie), which wasn't really good.

Of course the director on this also did Chico, so you can expect something good. Or should in any case. The story might take expected turns and it might be a bit predictable here and there, but it still is really good. There are some laugh-out loud moments in there too, so the comedy aspect of the movie does work (though again not really in a silly way). I wouldn't really compare it with 8 Mile though (something the other reviewer did, only thing I disagree with), because this is much lighter than the Eminem movie.

Die Musik ist gut, schauspielerische Leistung hält sich in Grenzen. Kann man aber gut und ohne das es langweilig wir anschauen. Ein solider Streifen.

Very fake and manipulative, with bad acting

Warning: Spoilers
"Blutzbrüdaz" is a German 90-minute movie from 5 years ago written and directed by Özgür Yildirim. And as much as I liked his work on "Chiko", I have to say here he is quite disappointing. Then again, it is not entirely his fault, buts mostly the fault of German rap artist Sido, who plays the protagonist in here without any acting talent at all. His character's name Otis here is basically an acronym of his name in real. So yeah, Sido is pretty bad here and same goes for all the members of his rap posse, such as B-Tight, who play supporting characters in here. The only somewhat delight is the stunning Claudia Eisinger, but she does not have a lot to work with either. The story with the female and male characters is as generic as it is predictable. Old girlfriend does not appreciate his art and is only in it because she wants the money. New girlfriend loves his honest approach to music. I guess she should take a closer listen to the misogynistic texts of his new love. Oh wait, he is just a tortured soul who wants to express his talent and it's all just show and not really him right? Laughable. Can't believe people are actually stupid enough to fall for his shtick.

The film's title is already pretty bad as this is not about the friendship between the two members of the band in the title, but really about both going their individual ways and having careers on their own. And of course, they keep badmouthing the other all the time with the most obscene gestures like that website Otis made with his friends. And still we are supposed to like him as a human. Who cares if he is ruthless, disrespectful, obscene and a criminal? Well, guess what, Mr. Würdig? I do. It is funny how Bushido's film, which is actually far superior to this crap-fest here, is always talked about when there is discussion about really horrible German films while this one rarely gets mentioned, is even seen as successful from an artistic perspective by some. It is not. It is as unauthentic as it gets and all about it is fake. Stay far far away.

Light fare and overall well coordinated

Warning: Spoilers
"Blutzbrüdaz" is a movie featuring two famous German rappers as protagonists, who have aside music videos no real experience as actors which might lead to the conclusion that the movie would not be convincing. The performance though really surprises, because they seem to have brought a huge amount of knowledge to the screenplay. The street dialect, as well as the plot are well rounded. The movie features a lot of jokes, drama and love as well as a nice soundtrack throughout the story. You can see a development of both most important characters (Eddy and Otis), how fame and money is able to corrupt people. The minor characters add depth to the whole story and are overall convincing even though one or another seems to be exaggerated.

Blutzbrüdaz is a film that exceeds its expectations in acting and plot, and could very well go trough as the German 8mile - so i award it with favorable 8 out of 10 points.
