Update: While the original campaign didn't make enough money to hit its target, the filmmakers started a new one... and reached their new goal within days. It's still ongoing though, so I updated the links in this article to send you to the new campaign. Back in 2019, a little crazy creature feature spoof called The Velocipastor got released. And indeed, it featured a priest who fought ninjas and who occasionally changed into a dinosaur. All in good fun of course. The film was divisive as some thought the "intentionally bad" film joke had outlived its welcome after too many multi-headed shark and sharknado films. Plenty of people really liked this one though, and a big part of that was that the creators showed their...

Microbudget viral hit The VelociPastor is — finally — gearing up for a second bite, and it’s heading to Europe.
It’s been over three years since the comedy-horror — written and directed by Brendan Steere — became an online phenomenon, largely due to its pun-tastic title (the result of a phone autocorrect mistake), but with significant help from an insane plot that involved ninjas, prostitutes and a crime-fighting clergyman who transforms into a dinosaur when angry (with some comically cheap aesthetics).
A sequel has been in discussion for some time (The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news back in 2020), but now the wheels appear to be moving, with pre-production underway for the past year and the team behind it now revealing the plot and launching a Kickstarter campaign, aimed at raising 275,000. The campaign will run Oct. 13-Nov. 11.

Originally shot in 2012 as a thesis project at the School of Visual Arts, professor Roy Frumkes is the film’s executive producer, Animosity had a festival run that included Fantasia and the Boston SciFi Film Festival. But after a small release it quickly faded into obscurity. Then writer/director Brendan Steere had an unexpected, and unlikely, hit with The VelociPastor.
Never one to pass up a quick cash in, Wild Eye Releasing has now dusted Animosity off and scheduled it for re-release. Is it one of their better finds, or just another student film that should stay forgotten?

The VelociPastor is plotting its return ... almost.
The follow-up to the comedy-horror actioner — a viral hit thanks to its pun-tastic title and an insane plot involving ninjas, prostitutes and a crime-fighting clergyman who transforms into a dinosaur when angry — is now taking shape.
Writer/director Brendan Steere — who famously made his feature debut for just $35,000 (and was initially inspired by an autocorrect error on his phone) — had previously announced that a sequel was in the works, but has now revealed to The Hollywood Reporter the title, plot and plans for an entire three-part franchise. ...

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally happening. The sequel you’ve all been waiting for. No, not Mad Max: Fury Road 2. I’m talking about The VelociPastor 2. And no, that isn’t a typo. I didn’t mean to write velociraptor. It’s VelociPastor, as in a dinosaur mixed with a man of the faith. Talk about an elevator pitch, right?
The director of the original, Brendan Steere, took to Twitter this week sharing a video of himself printing out a script for the sequel as an unofficial announcement. But how did we get here?
Well, apparently, there’s a movie known as The VelociPastor that was released in 2018. It was originally conceived back in 2010 and eventually made for a measly $35,000 thanks to a private investor. It then found its way to a festival in Portland, Oregon where it was bought by a company called Wild Eye.

This week’s horror and sci-fi Blu-ray and DVD titles are an eclectic bunch, led by a pair of cult classics—Fright and Straight on Till Morning—which were both directed by Peter Collinson. Arrow Video put together a special edition release for Who Saw Her Die?, which this writer is really looking forward to checking out in the coming weeks, and Unearthed Classics is resurrecting Nightwish on both formats as well.
In terms of new films, The Velocipastor arrives on Tuesday on both Blu and DVD, and for those of you who missed it in theaters, Dark Phoenix rises again on multiple formats, and Clownado touches down this week on DVD as well.
Other notable releases for September 17th include The Night Sitter, D-Railed, The Bloody Ape, Return of the Scarecrow, and The Films of Sarah Jacobson: Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore & I Was a Teenage Serial Killer from Agfa.

As soon as I read the title The Velocipastor I knew I had to see it. I didn’t need to see a trailer, I didn’t need to read what the story was, that title had already sold me. Despite this, I did keep my expectations low.
I needn’t have worried though because The Velocipastor knows exactly what type of movie it is and relishes in it. The story itself is simple, after he witnesses his parents die a priest discovers that he has the power to turn into a dinosaur. At first he is horrified but he then believes he can use it for ‘good’ and fight criminals and the worst people of the world.

While it may not be a Friday, Tuesday the 13th does have a bit of a nice ring to it, too, which makes it a perfect day to add some great genre Blu-rays and DVDs to your home entertainment collections. Scream Factory is doing the (dark) lord’s work yet again this week with their Collector’s Edition of Vice Squad (which I cannot wait to check out) as well as their stunning Steelbooks for both Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World.
For those of you who enjoy “talkies” (a phrase we coined in our house for our favorite dialogue-heavy films), Radioland Murders arrives on Blu for the first time ever this week, and the third season of Riverdale hits both formats on Tuesday as well.
Other notable releases for August 13th include Avengers: Endgame, The Velocipastor (ahead of its Blu-ray release on September 17th), A Dark Place, Devil Music,...

Headlining today's Horror Highlights is an exclusive Q&a with The VelociPaster writer/director Brendan Steere, who gives us some insights into his dino-centric horror comedy ahead of its release on August 13th. We also have a teaser trailer and festival screening details for the short film Cole & Colette (written by Harker Jones), as well as information on the world premiere screening of Hilton Ariel Ruiz's Zombie with a Shotgun.
Q&a with The Velocipastor Writer/Director Brendan Steere: "Brendan Steere, the genius behind cult sensation The Velocipastor, gives us the 411 on the upcoming DVD release of the film!
Was it the success of other, funny-but-frightening genre movies of late responsible for Velocipastor?
Well, the idea started back in 2011, so back then I was more inspired by things like Grindhouse and Machete. Afterwards, it kind of evolved into just a pastiche/love letter to all the “so bad it’s...
