Bengal & Revolution goes hand in hand since time immemorial. Bengal's contribution to India's Independence is unquestionable, unparalleled. This land's history has invariably been at the forefront of several movements, revolts and powerful resistance against British imperialism and its heinous, illegitimate acts.
Even after post-independence, the people of Bengal have always been vocal about all the issues that pertained to National Interest. I need hardly say, the significance of Bengal, from a political standpoint has been unprecedented. However, we have had our shares of crises and mismanagements too. Be it the '43s Famine, or the notorious "Naxalbari" Movement; that eventually led to Naxalite-Maoist Insurgency in our state.
Hoichoi's "Mukhyamantri" vigorously showcases all of that and some more. The title may suggest it's solely a documentary on all the Chief Ministers, the state of Bengal has had since India's independence; Let me tell you, it's more than that. A brief history lecture for both the academics and the unaware.
The presentation is simple yet precisely to the point. It's neat and very much focused on facts and figures, unlike a majority of the Political Documentaries out there. I'm not saying they are completely impartial with their comments and observations; yet, I have to admit, they tried their best to maintain a reasonable balance between subjective philosophies and historical findings and information. A praiseworthy attempt for sure!
