Sex & Nudity

  • A few characters speak candidly about sex and make suggestive innuendos at times.
  • It is possible for the player character to end up in a relationship with another character, depending on dialogue options chosen at various points throughout the game. Dialogue that will lead to a relationship is clearly marked with a picture of a heart, while dialogue that will end a relationship is marked with a picture of a broken heart. Heterosexual, gay, lesbian and interracial (humans and elves) relationships are possible. There are several possible cutscenes that can be unlocked in a romance, involving passionate kissing, fully-clothed romantic embraces, and subsequently waking up in a bed wearing only underwear, strongly implying that the two characters have had sex. The aftermath varies from character to character, but can include the other character asking to move in, or leaving, saying it was a one-time thing.
  • Some characters wear clothes that reveal significant cleavage.
  • It is possible to solicit a prostitute at a brothel. No sex is seen.

Violence & Gore

  • Characters fight using swords, daggers, bows or magic. Blood is shown on the ground and on characters after a combat. Dead bodies of enemies become skeletons once looted.
  • A character lives in a house which perpetually has dead bodies on the floor.
  • A character is shown using a magical ability to reach inside a person's body and remove their heart. The heart is not seen, but there is a splash of blood.
  • There are several times where a character is killed in a cutscene, rather than in controllable combat. For example, at the beginning of the game, either a man or woman is crushed by being picked up and squeezed by a large monster, including a spurt of blood. Several characters intimately confront other characters and fatally stab them in close quarters.

Profanity

  • Moderate language (such as "ass", "tits" and "shit") is used occasionally. One character repeatedly calls another character a "whore".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Repeated reference is made to a mineral called "lyrium" which is typically used in magic, but is used by some characters like an addictive drug.
  • A major recurring location is a tavern, in which people are seen drinking and acting drunkenly. The player character can order a drink, which does nothing except trigger a short cut-scene of them drinking it.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • At the beginning of the game, a woman may kill her mortally wounded husband. It is an emotional moment that may shock or upset some players.
  • A main quest in Act II involves a serial killer who targets older women by romancing them and then murdering them. The murderer is then revealed to have targeted the player character's mother, and has combined pieces of the bodies of the women he has murdered into a magically animated Frankenstein-esque woman with the face of the player character's mother. The scene is shocking and can be very emotional.
  • There is the repeat theme of characters being "made Tranquil", which is a process that leaves them alive but without personality. This concept may be frightening to some players.
  • A character confronts his long-lost sister and, depending on choices made by the player, may murder her.
  • A woman is held prisoner by a man who makes veiled comments to her that could imply his intent to commit sexual violence against her. In another sequence, a man comments that the mage oppression means that people being "raped or beaten" is a daily occurrence. These reflect a general culture of oppression that some could find quite intense.
