This is a five-year-old movie written and directed by Nikolai Müllerschön. You may have seen his film "Der Rote Baron" with Matthias Schweighöfer, which he made 2 years before this one. His co-writer here also has lots of trash films listed in her body of work, pseudo drama, cheesy romance films and very recently the completely over-hyped and mediocre "Tannbach" trilogy. "Aber jetzt erst recht" is something young aspiring filmmakers should watch in order to see what a film should never look like. There are so many bad and embarrassing scenes in here I don't even know where to start. Stupid random English quotes (with a prompt translation for the uneducated audience) are only one thing. Or when they accidentally think somebody named "Tiger" is named "Lion". Terrible stuff. And then there is basically the same aspects from every German 90-minute television movie that has a female character in its center. We are supposed to feel for her because she is so goddamn perfect and altruist. She takes money from the rich and gives it to the poor, she gets insulted by her boss and blamed for no real reason by her colleagues even if she only wanted to help them. She cries heartbreakingly, so we are supposed to feel with her etc. Yawn. The perfect woman she is. I hate it when characters are written this way, really lacks any kind of wit or creativity.
And of course this woman also has her dream male in this movie, who, initially is not the perfect match for her of course. As if we all wouldn't know that the two become a couple in the end. They put in so much drama, but it's always clear that they will get together, because in these kind of crap movies, they always do. Oh yeah and she meets her significant other on a bridge with some stupid suicide-subplot. It's not dramatic, it's just embarrassing. Same goes for the way, in which they included a close one of the main character dying. Some more pseudo drama please. And of course the man is younger than she is because she is just such a great woman. Who cares if he could have women 20 years younger than Speidel's character. His permanent quoting of German proverbs is pretty embarrassing too. Admittedly still he is not as bad and cringeworthy as Speidel here. Then again, this should not be a surprise at all as she has lead trash movies for a long long time now. No range this woman has. And still, the horrible script is still way worse than her. All the dialogs feel scripted and fake and Speidel's character's constant stupid rambling against rich people becomes quickly very annoying. Or the permanent switching between "Sie" and "Du", the two German words for "You", one informal, one formal.
Apart from that, also the supporting characters added their fair shares in making this film a complete mess. Here, I am talking about the protagonist's grandson and best friend who are both worse than you would expect them to be. That anger speech from the grandson to Speidel's character was possibly the absolute lowlight of this movie. This is a definite contender for worst film of 2010. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away. This movie is a prime example of how film as a genre is no longer art, but has turned into fart.
