Kenny DeForest, a popular stand-up comic who made appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Late Late Show with James Corden, HBO’s Crashing and Comedy Central’s Tales From The Trip, died yesterday at a Brooklyn hospital days after a Dec. 8 traffic accident in which his bicycle was struck by a motor vehicle. He was 37.
His death was announced by his friend and fellow comic Ryan Beck, who posted the news on a GoFundMe page that had been set up to assist with medical bills following the accident. According to Beck, DeForest had undergone neurological surgery to remove a piece of his skull and relieve pressure from a brain bleed.
“Kenny died on Wednesday December 13th at Kings County Hospital surrounded by his parents, family, and friends,” Beck wrote. “Kenny’s final moments included some of his favorite songs, stories of his childhood, and memories of his...

Don’t let the title fool you: The Sundance Film Festival has been featuring television programs for years, be it the slew of documentaries that end up on HBO, Showtime, and Netflix or pilots that earn a special showcase like “Animals.” did in 2015.
But 2018 is special. This year, Sundance is dedicating an entire section to episodic programming, including short-form series, docu-series, traditional pilots, and more experimental premieres. It’s all coming together under the Indie Episodic banner, and it’s all designed with one clear mission:
“There is no clear path to series if you’re trying to do it independently — if you’re going to try and shoot your own pilot, and then try and get picked up,” Sundance programmer Charlie Sextro told IndieWire. “There’s a clear way [in] making an independent film: It gets picked up at Sundance, and then it gets out to the world. I love comics. It's my thing. I read them, study them, look deep into them. I think that everyone that writes has something they really get, whether it's games, movies, tv or just news. I feel something that I have an intensive history with is comics. Which makes me so excited about this new History Channel two-part series special all about the hidden origin stories of comics biggest heroes.
The cable network has planned to air the two-part special called Superheroes Decoded on April 30th and May 1st.
The first part will look at the creation of iconic heroes such as Batman, Superman, Captain America, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman and how they were influenced by history and how they changed through the years as we went through different wars and events.

"A severed arm, found buried in the White House Rose Garden.
A lethal message with terrible consequences for the Presidency.

But there are a powerful few who know his other role. Beecher is a member of the Culper Ring, a 200-year-old secret society founded by George Washington and charged with protecting the Presidency.

Ever hear a story that seems so implausible but is true? Imagine these stories reveal items from some of our culture and history that have gone missing. Perhaps you could help find them. If every picture is worth a thousand words, then according to Brad Meltzer’s Lost History, which makes its debut tonight on the H2 channel, every item contains a story of a million words.
If you’re not familiar with Meltzer, he is a bestselling novelist, comic book writer (Jla, Green Arrow, Identity Crisis) and author of kids books. He also hosted a series on the History Channel called Decoded, which spent two seasons verifying or debunking real American mysteries and conspiracies. Now he is launching a new series through History’s sister channel, H2 called Lost History, which looks at solved and unsolved cases of a variety of missing items tied to our history. Think of...

It’s an irresistible combination: Brad Meltzer, a born storyteller, counting down the world’s most intriguing unsolved mysteries. And to make this richly illustrated book even richer, each chapter invites the reader along for an interactive experience through the addition of removable facsimile documents—the evidence! It’s a treasure trove for conspiracy buffs, a Griffin and Sabine for history lovers. Adapted from Decoded, Meltzer’s hit show on the History network, History Decoded explores fascinating, unexplained questions. Is Fort Knox empty? Why was Hitler so intent on capturing the Roman “Spear of Destiny”? What’s the government hiding in Area 51? Where did the Confederacy’s $19 million in gold and silver go at the end of the Civil War? And did Lee Harvey Oswald really act alone?...

In this preview clip for tonight’s White Collar episode, “Identity Crisis” Mozzie (Willie Garson) gets his “Yuuuuup!” on, bidding on an abandoned apartment building with June (Diahann Carroll).
Okay, thankfully Mozzie didn’t go Dave Hester in that clip but whenever I watch A&E’s Storage Wars, I wonder about the eccentrics that have enough cash flow to bid on storage units, or in this case, an abandoned apartment. This only builds our curiosity of the fascinating Mozzie, who we never know what he’s up to on any given moment, as well as how he acquires some of his antiquities. Now we know. We love these Mozzie-centric episodes and who doesn’t love an appearance with June?
Now this latest purchase by Mozzie is just the beginning of one of Mozzie’s adventures as he’s bound to find something in this apartment that will lead him,...

Whether or not you believe the History Channel worked hard to gain its credibility as an institute of televised education depends on how difficult you think it is to find something new to say about World War II for the tenth historical special in a row. Regardless of that, it should be a fairly quick consensus that concludes that reputation has been eroding rapidly ever since the network decided to abandon those pesky things called facts in favor of shows they thought would get eyeballs, even if they have nothing to do with history, or worse yet, are utterly dismissive of its value. And while shows like Ancient Aliens and MonsterQuest were the instigators, shows like Brad Meltzer’s Decoded are the enduring compromise: a half hour of speculative pseudo-history that brings up interesting questions but then fails to answer them even after blowing their importance far out of proportion.

If you're like Brad Meltzer, you're almost entirely convinced the Riddler was the architect of just about every government institution, major civilization, and unexplained phenomenon. And while we're not going to take a side on that either way, life would be a hell of a lot more interesting and frustrating if that was really true. When someone around us starts talking about secret conspiracies and complicated codes written into state's documents or the walls of ancient monuments, we tend to write them off as crazy (because a lot of them are). However, when the person has a wealth of history at their finger tips and they can tell a compelling story, then we're less likely to dismiss them as crazy. That's exactly the role Brad Meltzer plays with his show Decoded.
Curious for a look? Then you're in luck because we're giving away two copies of the second season on DVD.

Harold And Maude (Criterion) Hal Ashby’s masterpiece of black humor centers on a wealthy young man (Bud Cort) who’s obsessed with death and the septuagenarian (Ruth Gordon) with whom he finds true love. As unabashedly romantic as it is quirky, with Cat Stevens supplying one of the great film scores of all-time. Fine support from Vivian Pickles, Cyril Cusack, Charles Tyner, and Ellen Geer. Fine screenplay by Colin Higgins. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Hal Ashby biographer Nick Dawson, producer Charles Mulvehill; Illustrated audio excerpts from seminars by Ashby and Higgins; Interview with Cat Stevens. Widescreen. Dolby 2.0 stereo.
In Darkness (Sony) Agnieszka Holland’s Ww II epic tells the true story of a sewer worker and petty thief in Nazi-occupied Poland who single-handedly helped hide a group of Jews in the city’s labyrinthine sewer system for the duration of the war.

With Hollywood turning more of its attention to the world of graphic novels for inspiration, I'll cast the spotlight on a new comic book each week that has the potential to pack a theater or keep you glued to your television screens. Ever since "Wall·E" ended, the doors have been left wide open for serious, dark explanations behind the stories in Pixar films. A handful of Marvel creators speculated about the truth behind the "Cars" universe this morning, including how the automobiles reproduce and how their world came to be what it is as it exists now in "Cars 2."
Another follow-up film has been attracting stares on Twitter as well. The "Footloose" remake has an official trailer, and even Kevin Bacon may not be enough to get Marjorie Liu to see it. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Meltzer, the best selling novelist, comic book author, and host of the new History Channel show Brad Meltzer's Decoded spoke about his interest in writing a super-hero movie. On the screenplay he'd like to write I would do a superhero movie in a heartbeat. Everyone is going to say Batman. Everyone is going to say the big ones. Anyone who reads Identity Crisis sees I love them all. You give me the smallest character those characters have lived with me since I was eight years old. I would do Green Arrow in a heartbeat. While discussing the future of his History Channel show Brad Meltzer Decoded, the American political thriller novelist, non-fiction writer, TV show creator and award-winning comic book author dropped hints at the superhero films he'd like to be involved with. Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are pushing forward with three new superhero films over the next year and a half, Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds, director Christopher Nolan's third Batman film The Dark Knight Rises and a yet to be titled Superman reboot with Henry Cavill in the lead role. Now that Anne Hathaway has been confirmed as Catwoman's daytime alter-ego Selina Kyle for Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," Twitter's nuclear opinion reactor has gone into full effect. Most of the posts in our feed seem to be warm to the idea, and Ed Brubaker is among those lauding Nolan's casting decision, so sit back and give her a chance if you're still on the fence.

Whether exploring the nation's unsolved mysteries in his History Channel show "Brad Meltzer's Decoded," or crafting the political thrillers at the heart of celebrated novels like "The Tenth Justice" or "The Book Of Fate," the award-winning writer has a nose for sniffing out the stories lurking just behind the historical facts. His latest conspiracy tale, "The Inner Circle," hits shelves this week, telling of a young archivist who accidentally discovers a 200-year-old dictionary that once belonged to George Washington and becomes entangled in a dangerous mystery.
With that in mind, we asked the former "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Identity Crisis" comic book writer to tell us about his favorite conspiracy stories from the big screen — and he was happy to oblige with a list of seven films he counts as his favorite conspiracy movies. Why seven? Apparently, it's a mystery.
