The theatrical industry is still struggling to return to normal, and matters aren’t helped as the studios continue to pull major releases from the calendar and send them to next year. There might not be a lot of content available on the big screen, but luckily the streaming wars remain in full swing, and as the market leaders, Netflix are constantly updating their library to retain their position at the front of the pack.

Enderby Entertainment is developing a feature film based on Melissa Fay Greene’s civil rights drama “Praying for Sheetrock,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The non-fiction book, published in 1991, was a finalist for the National Book Award and won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award, Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize, Georgia Historical Society Bell Award and the Aclu National Civil Liberties Award.
The story is set in McIntosh County, deep in the pine woods of the Georgia coast, where a white sheriff wielded all the power and a small and isolated African American community was denied access to political power, good jobs, fair housing, and decent education. An unemployed black man, Thurnell Alston, led the way to challenging the sheriff and changed the way of life in the community forever.

Ben Kingsley is not a tall man, but he looms awesomely large in writer-director Brad Silberling’s “An Ordinary Man,” whose slyly misleading title refers to what becomes of a notorious Bosnian Serb general living in what used to be Yugoslavia — a monster guilty of torture, murder, and other unforgivable crimes who has spent the subsequent years attempting to blend in. The versatile actor, whose performances have run the gamut of good and evil from Gandhi to “Sexy Beast” maniac Don Logan, settles somewhere in the middle here, which isn’t at all what one might expect when playing the country’s most wanted war criminal. Still, it’s the right answer in a goulash-heavy character study that’s ultimately more interested in human psychology than unresolved world politics.

I'm not sure how he does it, but Ben Kingsley somehow manages to be simultaneously over-the-top and subtly restrained in An Ordinary Man. Playing an indicted war criminal on the lam known only as the "General," Kingsley delivers such a riveting performance that it becomes easy to overlook the film's less compelling aspects.
The drama from director-screenwriter Brad Silberling, whose Hollywood career has included such high-budget efforts as Casper and A Series of Unfortunate Events, is a relatively modest, low-budget affair. Much of the action takes place in a single apartment, and with some rewriting it's easy to imagine the...

Despite being someone known for family-friendly fare (Casper and A Series of Unfortunate Events), Brad Silberling was always the guy behind the under-rated Moonlight Mile to me. Beyond its sentimentality and contrivances, it cemented his name as one to follow. Besides 10 Items or Less, however, he career mostly shifted from film to television. I’ll admit I eventually forgot this name during the fifteen years since taking note, its appearance as writer and director of An Ordinary Man reminding me of the potential it held. Even so, I can’t say a film about a war criminal that appeared to want to shine a sympathetic light upon him sounded like it could ever legitimately work, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover it did.

"I was always inclined to be an ordinary man..." Saban Films has released an official Us trailer for an indie thriller titled An Ordinary Man, made by producer / director Brad Silberling. Not to be confused with the Coen Brothers' film An Ordinary Man, which starred Michael Stuhlbarg, this one is new and stars Ben Kingsley. He is hiding in a new secret location and develops a relationship with the maid, played by Hera Hilmar, but discovers the truth about her and everything changes. The cast includes Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Blythe. This played at a few festivals last year but hasn't made much of an impact. From writing Beverly Hills Cop to directing Toy Soldiers and Dawn Patrol, we have a chat with writer/producer/director Daniel Petrie Jr.
Daniel Petrie Jr comes from a family with movies in its blood.
His father, Daniel Petrie Sr, directed films such as Resurrection, Cocoon: The Return and A Raisin In The Sun. His mother, Dorothea, produced movies, wrote novels and acted. And then his brother, Donald Petrie, directed Cocoon: The Return, Miss Congeniality and Grumpy Old Men.
Yet Daniel Petrie Jr is just as busy. His screenplays include Turner & Hooch and Beverly Hills Cop (for which he earned an Academy Award nomination), whilst his directorial debut was the much-loved (by us especially) Toy Soldiers.
As his new film as director, Dawn Patrol (starring Scott Eastwood) lands on DVD, he spared us some time for a chat about his career. Starting with what he's up to right now.

Last year wasn't a great one for Australian actress Abbie Cornish. She's been high on our radars since Cate Shortland's great "Somersault" (which also introduced the world to Sam Worthington) in 2004, and looked as if she might break out to the big time with a great performance in Jane Campion's "Bright Star" three years back, and 2011 saw her appear in a number of high profile projects. But while she starred in the sleeper hit "Limitless" (albeit in a thankless role), she also featured in "W.E." and "Sucker Punch," which numbered among the two most painful cinemagoing experiences of last year. And while she was in contention for major parts in films like "Prometheus," "Savages," "The Great Gatsby" and "The Invisible Woman," she was beaten out for each of them.
Fortunately, things are looking up these days: she won praise for her performance in Tribeca film "The Girl," has...

Ever since 2009's Land of the Lost ended up being a total box office disaster (making only $49 million domestically with a $100 million budget), director Brad Silberling has spent some time in director jail. While he's worked on TV projects, offers weren't exactly flowing in for him to get back into the feature world. Apparently he's back, however, and has added two stellar actors to his newest project. THR is reporting that Brendan Gleeson and Abbie Cornish have been hired to play the two leads in An Ordinary Man, which is based on an original screenplay by Silberling. The film is a thriller about a shut-in war criminal whose only contact to the outside world is his maid. While the trade doesn't say it, one can assume that Gleeson will be playing the criminal and Cornish will play the maid. Silberling is producing the film along with Chris Miller, James Burke...

• Arnold Schwarzenegger continues his streak of gritty action films, signing on to star in the thriller Ten, Open Road Films announced today. David Ayer (Street Kings, End of Watch) will direct the script by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Good Day to Die Hard), which follows a team of crooked DEA agents who start getting mysteriously executed after a dirty drug raid. Schwarzenegger’s role in the film is unclear, but we’re guessing it’s light on introspective soliloquies.

When the first word about Brad Silberling’s dark indie drama An Ordinary Man first broke back in 2010, it had Liam Neeson circling the lead. Well, Neeson is no longer attached, but Silberling has found a more than adequate replacement, with Brendan Gleeson signing on.Gleeson will co-star alongside Abbie Cornish in the tale of a relationship between a wanted war criminal hiding from prosecution and his maid, who becomes his only real form of human contact. The criminal at the centre of the story is loosely based on Serbia’s Slobodan Milosevic, who died in 2006 in his prison cell at the Hague.Gleeson seems like a solid choice for the role, as he’s proved able to bring deeply unlikeable characters to life in the past while still digging up some humanity to layer on top of the loathsome behaviour.Silberling hasn’t made a movie since 2009’s critically...

"An Ordinary Man" directed by Brad Silberling....does it sound vaguely familiar? Well, if you have a good memory, you might remember this project came up on the radar two years ago but it now looks like things are ready to press forward.
Radiant Films International has announced they have obtained the international sales rights on the thriller that now has Abbie Cornish and Brendan Gleeson set to star. The picture, set to be written and directed by Silberling, will be a nice shift in gears for the helmer who is probably best known for "Moonlight Mile" and "City Of Angels." The story will center on the unexpected relationship between a fictitious war criminal in hiding, and his only human contact -- his maid. Back when the project was initially brewing, Liam Neeson was eyeing the lead role, said to be partially based on former Serbian leader and convicted war criminal Slobodan Milosevic.

Narnia fans know that when Aslan speaks, you listen. And Aslan the lion, voiced by Liam Neeson in the upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, is currently doing a lot of speaking. Neeson, out promoting his new film, has confirmed that he'll start shooting a sequel to Clash of the Titans called Wrath of the Titans in March and that, eventually, we'll see Taken 2. Would you like to know more? The Belfast Telegraph wrote two articles about Neeson which talked about Wrath of the Titans [1] and Taken 2 [2] separately. In regards to Titans, here's what the star had to say: I've only read half of the script and there is still some work being done - they're on script 10 - but I think it's going to be some kick-ass stuff and a very human story to it. He then added that they start shooting in March...

Here are a few interesting and/or noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of development titles.
Anna Karenina- Three times a charm for Atonement and Pride & Prejudice duo Keira Knightley and Joe Wright. The pair are expected to reunite once more for a take on Leo Tolstoy's classic written by Shakespeare in Love scribe Tom Stoppard.
An Ordinary Man- Snagging cameo roles in The Hangover 2 and Battleship isn't enough to keep Liam Neeson busy. The actor is also looking to add this Brad Silberling-directed film to his growing list of percolating projects.
One Thousand White Women- Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil will produce this script based on Jim Fergus' novel about a fictitious post-civil war government program where the U.S. President offers 1,000 Caucasian women to the Cheyenne nation in order to strike a peace treaty.
Untitled CBGB Project- From Bottle Shock to punk rock. Producers Randall Miller and Jody Savin will follow-up their California vineyard comedy with a gritty biopic about the fallen New York night club, CBGB, and its founder Hilly Kristal. The club is credited with helping launch the music careers of such acts as The Ramones, Patti Smith, Talking Heads and Blondie.
A Place of Only Sky- Set in Uganda, this drama stars Miranda Richardson as a nun trying to help children who are being kidnapped and trained to become soldiers. Andrew Black writes and directs the film with Kynan Griffin producing.

Liam Neeson is a busy man. We know this because A) his name is cropping up as rumoured for or attached to loads of movies at the moment and B) Variety decided to do an article all about his To Do list being crammed. In amongst the projects we’d already heard about, there was one notable new addition, a dark indie drama called An Ordinary Man that Neeson is hoping to find time to do with director Brad Silberling.Silberling, of course, is looking to bounce back after the critical and box office mauling handed to Land Of The Lost (unfairly, in the minds of some at Empire) and appears to be trying to put together something small and under the radar. An Ordinary Man would be something different for Neeson, as he’s not often seen playing truly dark characters. In this case, he’d be a fugitive...
