The movie was originally going to be a CG/live-action hybrid with Steve Carell rumored to be the Acme CEO.
On November 9, 2023, a Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group spokesperson announced the that movie had been shelved, after filming had been completed: "We have made the difficult decision not to move forward with 'Coyote vs. Acme.' We have tremendous respect for the filmmakers, casts and crew and are grateful for their contributions to the film." Director Dave Green posted this response to Twitter: "For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time. I was surrounded by a brilliant team, who poured their souls into this project for years. We were all determined to honor the legacies of these historic characters and actually get them right. Along the ride, we were embraced by test audiences who rewarded us with fantastic scores. I am beyond proud of the final product, and beyond devastated by WB's decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day." The cast and crew were granted a "funeral screening," similar to Batgirl. Four days later, on November 13, 2023, it was reported that Warner Bros. had reversed their decision and allowed the film to be shipped to other distributors.
The third film David Zaslav has shelved during his time as the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery for a tax write-off. The first films were Batgirl & Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, which were shelved near the end of post-production in August 2022.
This is the first Looney Tunes movie to be produced in the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The Space Jam films were produced in 1.85:1 format, while Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003) was produced in 1.78:1 format, but matted to 2:35.1 for theatrical release, home media and most digital outlets (with the exception of Vudu/Fandango at Home, which correctly presented in).
The movie was going to be released on July 21, 2023, before it was replaced with Barbie (2023) on April 26, 2022, which John Cena also starred in.
