"They're not thinking about what they can't do, they're thinking about what they can." Vision Films has debuted a new re-release trailer for an indie film titled Chloe & Theo, which originally premiered in 2015 a few years back. Not many people saw the film and it got some rough reviews, but apparently it's getting rediscovered because it stars Dakota Johnson - released the very same year as Fifty Shades of Grey. Chloe & Theo is based on a true story. Theo, an Inuit elder and lead in the film playing a fictionalized version of himself, actually came to NYC to talk about his people's struggle with global warming and sustainability, and then Richard Branson got involved and traveled with producer Monica Ord to the great Canadian north on a expedition to fully understand the effects of climate change discussed in the film. Starring Dakota Johnson as Chloe, "a fiery and fearless homeless girl", Mira Sorvino,...

Fernanda Valadez’s road movie has won the International Competition, Georgis Grigorakis received five awards, and Ameen Nayfeh was the big winner in Meet the Neighbors. The debut feature by Mexican film director-screenwriter-editor Fernanda Valadez, Identifying Features, has won the “Theo Angelopoulos” Golden Alexander for Best Feature Film at the 61st Thessaloniki International Film Festival, which ran from 5-15 November entirely online and attracted more than 80,000 viewers and film-industry professionals. The international jury, comprising Macedonian writer-director Teona Strugar Mitevska, director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam Vanja Kaludjerčić, Greek director Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, Iranian actress Melika Foroutan, and Icelandic sound designer and mixer Björn Viktorsson, handed the €15,000 prize to the Mexican-Spanish road movie, as they were “impressed by the directorial approach to the cinematic form, a form that never overpasses the natural flow of the story, but constantly elevates it to a higher and deeper stance and proposition”. Climate change is a deeply important issue. It has been for decades, but the rhetoric surrounding the crisis has ramped to a fever pitch in recent years. And while politicians and anyone else with a platform have continually simplified the complexity of the situation, very few have continued to dumb it down to the levels of the new “cli-fi” debacle “Chloe And Theo.” Theo Ikummaq (played by Ikummaq himself) is an Inuit from the arctic sent on a mission by his elders: he is to travel to “The South” and warn those in power to change their ways before the sun melts the polar caps and burns up the planet. Brandishing a fanny pack full of money and no understanding at all of what a country is or where he should be headed, Theo somehow finds himself in New York City. Preferring to “use his legs,” Theo walks from the...

Apparently the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is more interested in peace than war — or in superstars coming to their show. The complete shutout of Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper (both expected to be Major contenders) were eye openers for the foreign based Globe voters across-the-board dismissal of these two films, set in different wars but depicting iconic true-life American heroes. Throw in another total blank for Sony’s big hope, the very fine Brad Pitt-starring World War II drama, Fury and you have a scenario where the Globes appear to be quite battle weary this season – and not a fan of major studio fare this time around. You have to give credit though to the new direction of the HFPA, under 2nd year President Theo Kingman. The group that was vilified for nominating Jolie’s and Johnny Depp’s critically maligned The Tourist just...

Malcolm Jamal Warner and Regina King seemed like a match made in ’80s child star heaven. But after two years, the actors have called it quits — breaking the hearts of The Cosby Show and 227 fans, everywhere (a moment of silence for NBC’s genius mid-Eighties prime-time lineup).
According to Us Weekly, the split was a little on the harsh side. An insider said that Theo “wasn’t feeling it anymore,” and actually asked the Southland star (and her son!) to move out of his pad. “She’s brokenhearted,” added the source. We can only imagine — by all accounts, King was head over heels. “Malcolm and I have a lot in common,” the award-winning actress told Essence, back in January 2011. “We’ve both been child actors and were also blessed to be raised by incredible mothers who instilled good values in us. Things are maturing nicely.” Exactly one year later, she gushed to Parade that,...

The 14th annual Boston Underground Film Festival is ready to kick ass and take names on March 29 to April 1 at the Brattle Theatre. And a few of those names will look familiar to Buff fanatics — and underground film fans the world over.
A trio of Buff favorites are returning to the fest with debut feature films after totally killing it with their amazing short films in the past. Jamie Heinrich‘s Happily Never After is a feature-length expansion of the short film that took home the Best of Fest Award in 2010, but with more solid and mature themes as the movie explores the problematic life of a degenerate photographer.
Another former award winner is Richard Bates Jr. who will be screening Excision, another feature-length extension of a short film, this one about a teenage girl who exercises her morbid obsession with surgery every chance she gets.

Within hours of her untimely death, Whitney Houston was fast on her way to becoming a hot commodity, joining the ranks of other famous artists who have achieved the dubious distinction of great commercial success beyond the grave.
Houston’s most famous song, I Will Always Love You, was the most downloaded single on iTunes the day after her death, sales spurred by fans such as the one who blogged that the Queen of Pop sang “the soundtrack to my life.”
The demand for her singles and albums will only continue to soar in the days and weeks ahead, Theo Peridis, a professor of strategic management at York University, told CBC News in a phone interview Monday.
