The last couple of years have really ramped up in AI capability and debate. It even became one of the biggest issues that the artists fought for when the writers and actors held union strikes when Hollywood studios started to implement more of the technology to cut certain corners. People all over social media would blow up at Disney for attempting to slip by some rather synthetic-looking extras for a basketball scene in a Disney+ movie titled Prom Pact. Even films like Civil War and Late Night with the Devil, which have been shown admiration and support from audiences for the filmmakers’ ingenuity with their creative visions, came under fire for using AI technology for producing images.

As the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences continues to figure out how and when to finally hold this year’s Daytime Emmys — delayed in June due to the WGA strike — it has gone ahead and announced the nominations for this year’s 2nd Annual Children’s & Family Emmys.
There’s no date yet for this year’s Chidren’s & Family Emmys — NATAS is likely waiting for a hopeful soon resolution to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike before firming up dates. But last year, winners were announced during two ceremonies—one focused on creative and technical arts, and the other to performances and programming—at Wilshire Ebell Theatre on December 10 and 11. This year’s Cafe will likely be held around the same time — and NATAS could very well use that timeframe to simultaneously finally hold the Daytime Emmys as well.

George Clooney may not be Batman anymore (although he technically was again once more this past year), but he will try to come to the rescue with some A-list friends in an effort to end the strike that continues to march on for SAG-AFTRA. The writers’ guild has settled with the studios since their strike started earlier in May, and many thought this meant the last shoe would also drop with the actors’ guild. This would unfortunately not be the case as the Screen Actors’ Guild failed to reach an agreement with the AMPTP after weeks of negotiations.
Variety reports that Clooney and fellow A-list actors, including Scarlett Johansson and Ben Affleck, have conceived of a proposal that they submitted to the union in hopes that it could lead to an end to the strike. Their proposal outlines two main points. One would be to increase dues for high-earning actors...

When the rom-com Prom Pact arrived on Disney platforms in late March, it debuted to positive reviews and the modest level of fanfare one would expect for a TV film aimed at teenagers. But seven months later, it has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
On Thursday, a clip from the film’s opening pep rally scene circulated on X, formerly known as Twitter. In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, unrealistic looking digital humans cheer in the bleachers alongside real background actors. The clip has been widely shared (and widely mocked).
It has also struck a chord amid the SAG-AFTRA strike that has shut down Hollywood and in which one of the key issues is the worry that an actor’s likeness could be re-created digitally without adequate procurement of consent and compensation. Background actors, in particular, are worried that dependable work that might last...

Earlier this year, Disney released Prom Pact on Disney+ and audiences quickly noticed the inclusion of some very creepy digital extras that look like Sims characters. Flash forward a few months, and SAG-AFTRA has gone on strike, with one of their biggest beefs having to do with studios taking digital scans of actors to use however they see fit until the end of time.
Those creepy digital extras that Disney included in Prom Pact have gone viral once again, with SAG-AFTRA supporters using it as an example of what they’re fighting against.

"Prom Pact", directed by Anya Adams, is described as "a charming, romantic comedy that captures the emotional rollercoaster"of high school prom season, streaming May 4, 2023 on Freeform:
"...it's the height of prom season, and high school senior 'Mandy Yang' and her best friend and fellow outsider 'Ben' are surrounded by over-the-top '80s-themed 'promposals'. However, Mandy keeps her eyes focused on a different goal: her lifelong dream of attending Harvard.
"When she finds out that she has been put on the waitlist, she is determined to do whatever she can do to get herself accepted, even if that means asking for help from the one person she abhors - popular all-star jock 'Graham Lansing' (Draper), whose father is a powerful senator and Harvard alum.
"Once Mandy becomes Graham's tutor, she begins to realize there's more to him than she thought and perhaps something more to life than Harvard.

Americans, by and large, still love Adam Sandler. The Sandman’s latest Netflix flick, “Murder Mystery 2,” topped Whip Media’s movie ranker, which looks at the most-streamed movies in the U.S. Friday through Sunday using viewership data from TV Time, its TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million global registered users.
The sequel to 2019’s “Murder Mystery” saw Sandler join up again with Jennifer Aniston — both reprising their roles as Nick and Audrey Spitz. This time around, they’re private detectives on the hunt for a friend who has been abducted in France. Of course, that means Sandler and Aniston get to travel to some of the most iconic spots in Paris, including the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, as their characters are hot on the case.
The first “Murder Mystery” got a nice boost from the sequel’s release, finishing the weekend as the third most-streamed movie.

Harry Styles was under consideration to play Prince Eric in the forthcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, director Rob Marshall has said.
The Disney revival stars Halle Bailey in the titular role while relative newcomer Jonah Hauer-King will play her prince.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marshall said that Styles turned the role down to focus on “darker” material.
“We met with him. He was lovely. What a wonderful guy,” the director said of Styles. “But at the end of the day, he really felt like he wanted to go off and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were sort of darker.
“For a lot of young musical people like Harry, you’re trying to carve your way and you don’t wanna be seen as a singer, necessarily,” Marshall added.

A new teaser trailer for the live-action Barbie film has been released, giving fans a first look at the film’s characters in action.
Directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird; Little Women), the film stars Margot Robbie as the iconic children’s doll, and Ryan Gosling as her paramour Ken.
The supporting cast includes Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, Ncuti Gatwa, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman and Kate McKinnon, some of whom appear to be playing other iterations of Barbie and Ken.
A first teaser for the film was released last year. However, the clip – a parody of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey – did not reveal anything about the film’s plot.
On Tuesday (4 April), a second teaser was released online, and features many of the film’s primary cast members.

Disney Plus viewers notice ‘horrible CGI’ in new movie Prom Pact: ‘They look like Sims 2 characters’
A glaring mistake in Disney Plus’s new film Prom Pact has left viewers “horrified”.
The streamer’s latest movie stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as high school senior Mandy Yang. In the film, Mandy’s desperation to get off Harvard University’s waitlist forces her to befriend all-star jock Graham Lansing (Blake Draper), whose powerful father is a Harvard alum.
In the opening sequence, Mandy is seen digging through the school’s lost and found while the rest of the student body are in the gym attending a pep rally.
For a brief moment, as the camera pans to the students in the gym’s bleachers, a row of expressionless CGI characters can be spotted robotically clapping along behind a row of basketball players.
“Why are [there] AI people in Prom Pact?” someone asked in a viral tweet, alongside a screenshot of the scene.
“I’m gonna assume for continuity but this is so weird,...

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is set to abandon one of the franchise’s most popular traditions.
The film, directed by James Gunn, follows on from the first two Guardians films, as well as other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) entries such as Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022).
Released in 2014, the first Guardians of the Galaxy was a smash hit for Marvel, and drew particular praise from fans for its infectious jukebox soundtrack.
In the film, music is played from a mixtape given to Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) by his late mother.
The soundtrack, comprising a host of 1970s rock hits such as “Moonage Daydream” by David Bowie, “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Suede, and “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone, was released as an album, and went on to top the Billboard 200 chart.

Few events loom larger in the minds of movie teenagers than prom. Dreams are realized, bullies are put in their place, girls are declared “all that.” Real life is rarely as dramatic, thankfully, but that doesn’t mean we should expect studios (and streamers) to stop trying to make the next “Pretty in Pink” or “10 Things I Hate About You” anytime soon. Disney offer a fresh take on teendom’s big night with “Prom Pact,” in which two platonic best friends who are more comfortable on the outside looking in decide to finally step into the fray of high school life.
Mandy Yang (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) first appears in a Ruth Bader Ginsburg T-shirt, obsessively refreshing her Harvard application in the hopes that it’s gone from “pending” to “accepted” while trying to avoid the pep rally where North Seattle High will officially announce its prom theme: the ‘80s.

On the heels of the latest Marvel premiere and “Wakanda Forever” breaking records for Disney+, the streamer switches gears for the month of March to a galaxy far, far away. That’s right: It’s Star Wars season on streaming, with more new episodes of “The Bad Batch” as well as the long-anticipated Season 3 premiere of “The Mandalorian.”
Season 3 picks up with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his adorable charge Grogu, who shared an emotional goodbye at the end of Season 2 but reunited in “The Book of Boba Fett.” Din sets out to unlock the secrets of Mandalore, including his possession of the Dark Saber and its complicated connections to the family of Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). None of this would have fazed Din a short time ago, when he was a ruthless bounty hunter who adopted Mandalorian traditions, but now he has someone to protect — and the power of the Force at his side.

School is difficult enough, but it's about to be more difficult for a teenager named Maddie (played by Peyton List), tasked with solving her murder.
Paramount+ dropped the official teaser for School Spirits this week, and it looks set to be one of the most talked-about shows of the year so far.
The trailer introduces us to Maddie, a teenager who finds herself dead, and her spirit is stuck at school.
Maddie has no idea how she died, but she can see the reactions from the other students in the school as she tries to comprehend how she got stuck there.
The minute she tries to step foot off the school grounds, she's taken back to the crime scene.
It's a compelling hook for a teen drama, and the official trailer makes it seem like this one is worth watching.

When “Fresh Off the Boat” premiered in 2015, only a handful of shows with a predominantly Asian American cast had ever aired in primetime — and none of them lasted long. But the success of that ABC sitcom, which spanned six seasons, 116 episodes and made it to syndication, finally inspired a long-overdue boom in series and films featuring Asian American leads — including “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.,” from “Fresh Off the Boat” producing partners Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar.
“Fresh Off the Boat” may have ended, but Kasdan and Mar — who have been based at 20th TV for more than a dozen years — are continuing to lead TV’s expansion in Asian American and Pacific Islander representation. As Aapi Heritage Month coincidentally gets underway this May, Kasdan and Mar currently have eight active TV and film projects, all showcasing different elements of the vast Aapi experience.

Paramount Plus has released the official trailer for “The Offer,” the upcoming drama miniseries that chronicles the making of “The Godfather.”
Set in the early 1970s, “The Offer” stars Miles Teller as Albert S. Ruddy, who is hired as the producer for the film adaptation of the best-selling novel “The Godfather,” written by Mario Puzo (played by Patrick Gallo). While the series faces typical behind the scenes tension between its director Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) and producing team, the filming grows more complicated when mob boss Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi) signs on to help assist in the production. In addition to Teller, Gallo, Fogler and Ribisi, the series will also star Matthew Goode, Juno Temple, Burn Gorman and Colin Hanks.
The trailer shows Teller as Ruddy as he assembles the creative team for the film and battles with producers, only for the involvement of the mob to cause the...
